Apple releases iOS 12 developer beta 9; public beta 9 should arrive shortly
Apple today has released iOS 12 developer beta 9. Since these betas are intended to help developers test how their apps are faring with the latest iOS build, they are offered to those who have registered with Apple as a developer. The update to iOS 12 public beta 9 should be made available in a few days, and that is the version that non-developers can install on their iPhones.

Some of the features included in iOS 12 include Screen Time, which allows users to track their app usage and limit the time spent on certain apps. A test done by the New York Times showed that with a little parental support, Screen Time can reduce iPhone usage. One new feature that has been delayed is Group FaceTime, which would allow a group video chat conference to be held with up to 32 people at one time. Apple says that Group FaceTime will not be ready for the launch of iOS 12 and will be disseminated through another software update expected this fall.

The update also brings new Animoji and adds Memoji, which is Apple's response to Samsung's AR emoji. Memoji are customizable, animated human-like emoji. With iOS 12, Siri will be able to learn users' routines and suggest that certain actions be taken at the appropriate time each day. Users will also be able to create Shortcuts that will have Siri responding to certain voice commands by reporting on the weather, news, traffic conditions and more.

Last week, Apple released iOS 12 developer beta 7 and it wreaked havoc on many iOS devices, so Apple tried again with developer beta 8. That was five days ago, and with today's iOS 12 developer beta 9 release, we are one step closer to the launch of iOS 12. We expect the latter to be pushed out by Apple as soon as next month.
