Apple misses the mark, sells 50.8 million iPhone units in fiscal Q2 vs. expectations of 52 million

Apple reported its fiscal second quarter earnings this afternoon. The tech titan said that it fell short of Wall Street expectations pertaining to iPhone sales. With analysts expecting about 52 million iPhone handsets to have been rung up in the three months ended in March, Apple said that 50.8 million units were actually sold. CEO Tim Cook told CNBC that it the company is noticing "a delay in purchasing behavior."...

True, Apple isn't going to crash and burn, but iphone has been losing steam for past 6 quarters straight - (starting with Q1 2016, where Gartner said Apple sold less iphones YOY when channel stuffing was factored). Q1 2017, despite Apple crowing record sales of iphone, was actually another down quarter, due to Q1 2017 being 13 weeks long (vs 12 week Q1 2016). So as much as Tim Cook and apple dumpling gang like to try to hide the fact, iphone has been going downhill for now more than a year. Meanwhile, the "innovations" Apple has come up with like removing headphone jack, "3D" touch, etc hasn't exactly set the world on fire. For first time, very few if any Android manufacturers are following Apple's lead - it's actually reverse, with Apple now having to follow Android lead. Take a good look at iphone 8 when it comes out later this year! Apple want China to be it's best market, but it's turning out to be preview of what future has in store for Apple! Apple will face continuous declining market share due to extremely capable and aggressive Android manufacturers steadily making iphone look seriously overpriced and lacking innovation!

Finally, someone understands what I was saying!!!! Im not saying that Apple is going to crash and burn, but it would be nice for them to "grow some balls" and be more innovative. I'll always have respect for Apple because they changed the way we look at cell phones...........but they've lost some of their creative teeth lately

THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!! WE MUST TELL THE PRESIDENT!!! President Trump: "I've always been a fan of Steve Jobs, especially after watching Apple stock collapse w/out him - but the yacht he built is truly ugly."

And, as expected, the "DOOMED!!!" crowd is here. Can't say I'm surprised, but you'd think they'd at least compare statistics between their favored OEM and Apple and see just how ridiculous the assertion of Apple struggling is.

Funny is that you're always the 1st on Android and strictly Samsung's articles doing your daily dose of trolling. You can't attack others for doing exactly what you're famous for.

I'm sorry, I troll Samsung articles? Since when? I haven't even commented on a Samsung article in the last week.

Are you sure? This is one from yesterday, and I'm 1000% sure you did comment on bunch of other Samsung's articles the past week. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Android-7-Nougat-update-unlocked-Galaxy-S7-edge_id93630

How is that "trolling"? Is it not May? Am I in the Twilight Zone right now?

Dude, that was trolling, but if this isn't enough, I can find the other articles where you were also trolling. And you said you didn't comment on any of their articles the past week, but your claim was proved wrong.

Don't you think you're going to far with this "Samsung troll" thing. I mean, it's not like I go outta my way to s**t on them or anything. I'd say I ignore most of the articles about them altogether. I'm not seeing how I can earn troll status when commenting on a long wait for those with unlocked devices.

Is this about me commenting, or trolling? I'm confused, is what I said not accurate? They are asking people to pay $620 bucks for what is essentially a refurbished phone that'll only get 16 months of software support. Even Apple isn't that insane... I would hope.

"It's a refurb of an explosive device..." You can keep denying it all you want, but you always do your own share of trolling on Samsung's articles and high-five those who does it as well. But you go crazy anytime someone does the same on an Apple article. I have no problem with you commenting or trolling under Samsung's articles, but stop attacking those who does the same under Apple's articles.

Look at the comment I was replying to please. Adds context. "You can keep denying it all you want, but you always do your own share of trolling on Samsung's articles and high-five those who does it as well." Ehhhhh... stretch. To be frank, I give zero shits about Samsung. Certainly not enough to "high-five " anyone for dissing them. The only time I s**t on Sammy is when fanboys get outta line. Gotta keep them underfoot or they swarm. "But you go crazy anytime someone does the same on an Apple article." Literally 90% of Apple articles devolve into that. There's no way in hell I can respond to 15 dips**ts who take slick shots... stop exaggerating. Not only is it a waste of time, it's only gonna fall on deaf ears. Those type of people are immune to facts. "I have no problem with you commenting or trolling under Samsung's articles, but stop attacking those who does the same under Apple's articles." Here's the thing... that's a double standard if I've ever seen one. You can't say "Hey you, stop trolling" and then completely ignore the obvious reason for said trolling. Look at this very thread for instance. The first page is full of naysayers, dumbasses who didn't read past the title, a self proclaimed millionaire, and a guy who can't reply to any post without bringing up shitty Mobile VR. You gonna police them too, or is that a no?

It can't be a return when it was never sold. Stupid ads. A return is a phone that has been sold and used. Learn the difference you stupid idiot.

This is pretty much due to iPhone 8 anticipation, and 3 years of the same design.

And maybe slightly the move away from headphone jack. I personally know 2 people that left the iphone for that reason alone.

Some people, but few of those have planned to buy iPhones before choosing S.

Like i said before iphone sales will keep declining, yes they make profit because they raised the prices! iPhones are dying there is no denial, apple does not innovate they merly copy. Give it a few more years, they are already on the 3rd place. My prediction is 5/6th place in 2020!

Nobody had innovated anything in a long time; they are all making incremental upgrades: better SOCs, more memory and storage, bigger screens, less buttons and that's it.

3rd place in what?

They are among the most expensive phones on the market while among the cheapest to produce. They user cheaper screen tech with lower resolution, they skip gorilla glass, they offer less storage for the base model, and have other lower specs compared to Android phones. Than to top it off they have a HUGE fan base so they sell a lot of their expensive phones while Samsung and many others sell a lot of cheaper handsets, and flagships like the S8 cost noticeably more to produce so the profit margins aren't as high while having a lower sales volume.
