0. phoneArena posted on 12 Sep 2012, 16:28

The Apple iPhone 5 is here and it brings little surprises except for a possibly much more capable processor than expected. And that’s not a small thing, but with all the leaks many hoped…

well, NFC will make charging easier than a cable plus with no contact with a cable it ensures your device wont have its charging adapter worn off, just saying

You work in 2010

All kidding aside, Apple purposely didn't future proof there phone. You might not be using NFC now, but it is coming...

yea but NFC isn't really life or death... people can live without it...

ok and is anyone tired of fAndroids filled up the comments in EVERY post about apple??? i mean like imma iFan but seriously? i dont go into every android post say something like, "The Revolution is coming!!!" lol or "Lord Steve Jobs with damn you to hell for eternity!" Im sorry apple made a phone that doesn't run on android 4.1897459823479534. Im sorry iOS6 is too simple. Im sorry that apple will probably not stop making cell phones. Im sorry that in the last 5 years the iphone really hasn't changed, i know how you're very impatient and 5 years is a very, very long time. And im finally sorry for saying that i probably will get the iphone 5... i mean like if you get it and you dont like it sell it and buy a new phone!

NFC i'm pretty surprised they didn't include, not because I think its super essential (I have yet to see even one person use it), but just because other smartphones have it. But wireless charging? Do we all really care about that? Just like Phil said, you still have to plug it into the wall anyway, its not like its freaking cordless.

As for Android users, I can definitely see their point about the iPhone 5 not being groundbreaking or setting any standards, cause it true. The only problem is that they can't criticize the iPhone 5's hardware for being outdated when there have been smartphones with similar specs released on a couple of months ago and even lined up for future release. We're all in the same playing field now.

Its true that iPhone 5 is a great device for Apple fanbase.

As for saying that Apple iPhone 5 is at the same playing field show that you have yet to use another high end ICS Android device extensively.

Android is really a linux computing device tailored for the mobile experience.

iOS's core is really a linux computing device with layers of restrictions set by Apple to benefits its profit margins.

A lot of Android users are also Apple users. The different is fan will buy apple product regardless not giving other product that offer better value any consideration.

If the One X and Galaxy SIII aren't considered high end ICS devices, then you're right, I have yet to use one.

We have beaten this Android vs iOS debate to death, so I really don't want to get into that again. Personal preference, lets leave it at that. I'm talking about the hardware. iPhone haters bash everything Apple. And when they say the iPhone 5 is outdated, the only thing I'm thinking is "Hello! The phone in your hand has the same exact specs if not worse."

This phone isn't amazing hard-ware wise, but considering everything recent that's out there, its definitely not bad.

Well stated, Ser. This site is definitely full of iHaters. If you want people today agree with you, just say something derogatory about apple. It works every time :) Oh, also, if you want to see some red thumbs, just do the opposite.

Are you sure its only this site. Visit any phone news site its will be the same.

But you don't have to worry for apple, those that don't visit any site (majority) will still buy your favorite garget at least for a considerable time.

I agree with him, I have a GALAXY NOTE and I am tired of reading all this bashing because people like a product you do not like, go get a life SERIOUSLY, and for people who say iphone just caught up need to get their head check, first of all they do not use andriod os, so why do they need a quad core processor.......this makes no sense their operating system is faster then andriod without the extra processing power, so why is everyone comparing apples to oranges when its painfully obvious they are not the same......find a new hobby man......its just crazy going through many apple articles to read apple just caught on......then you have people defending why one andriod device cant outsell one apple device.......you need to stop making excuses if you do this for phone device you must do this a lot for life

Steve Jobs dead isnt he ... its just a phone, Apple fan boys cant make our decision to by iphones for us. it is not the be all and end all of everything. we all have preferences.. me for one will never look at anything less than 4.5" screen. i would hate to lose that real estate because Apple said no one needs more than 4".

“Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated,”

That's a really stupid reason to be lazy or just unwilling to compermise "thinness. Wireless charging doesn't seem very complicated to me at all. Why does Apple keep trying to convience consumers that the features they like and want are unnesecary. Just put the sh*t in the phone already!

Wait a minute...now that I think about it, I'm sure this is just Apple's way of making sure people who buy the iPhone 5 have a reason to upgrade next year to the iPhone 5s or 6 or whatever. Actually, that's pretty smart for the company. That just sucks for iPhone 5 owners.

outside of the Palm Pre 3 years ago and the upcoming Lumia 920, I cant think of any major phones that utilized a built in solution for wireless charging. Its unfair to grill Apple on this when companies that you guys regularly praise like Samsung and HTC have yet to release a major phone in their lineup that does this (and to my knowledge, have never released a phone that does this, period).

If you think about it, most HTC devices have the option of wireless charging or at least charging cradles like the Rhyme. Not all OEMs have followed suit just yet, but most of them have made it possible on many of their handsets with the exception of maybe Motorola. But painting wireless charging as not useful instead of just giving consumers what they want is just plain silly.

Actually the Samsung Galaxy S3 supports wireless charging but the charger is not out yet i think? I'm sure HTC will announce their new phone with wireless charging too. I just don't understand why apple does not use micro usb and help the customer instead of charge for another iPhone connector that is iPhone specific. Also i was sure that if NFC was announced apple would introduce their iBeam (android beam for iDevices)?

Nokia is using a universal Qi standard for the wireless charging built into the 920 (or optional on the 820 with interchangemable back cover). This is unlike previous OEM solutions, which offered wireless as an option and always with a proprietary solution. Nokia has also integrated both wireless charging and NFC into its accessories, like the JBL speakers. You can tap to pair with this accessory plus lay the phone on top to charge it. Pretty slick solution IMO.

I'm really surprised Apple hasn't been an early adopter of this approach. The 8 pin connector seems very...1990's...to me.

makes total sense.. NOKIA's "wireless" charging is still wired after all! though it couldve been kinda cool if the iPhone 5 had the best of what's offered today other than the larger screen and the uber-shala camera.. still worth buying! Apple FTW! :D

The charging part is not wired!! You do not have to plug the phone in to anything to charge it. Even when using Wifi there are wires somewhere. Come on let's not be dense!
