Apple is aware of "Error 56" bricking some iPad Pro 9.7 units

Yesterday, we heard that the latest iOS update — 9.3.2 — has been reported to brick a number of Apple's newest tablets – the iPad Pro 9.7. Reports said that, post update, some of the slates would end up just showing a mysterious “Error 56” message, instructing the user to plug their device to iTunes. Following those instructions would still not wake the device up, however.

The thing is, it's little more understandable with an update model like Android has. Google puts out an update, then it goes to the OEMs, who hen have to tweak it not only or their UI skins, but also for the various models they have. Then after all that, it either is sent out to the phones (for unlocked or international models) or to the carriers who add their own tweaks to it. The point is, most Android devices have more different hands in the mix (Google, OEMs, and possibly carriers) and more differing models to update, outside of Nexus devices of course. Nexus devices es and Apple are on the same thing field so far as updates. While Google isn't in charge of the hardware necessarily, their updates go out unchanged to a limited number of models with no other outside involvement, just like with Apple. So imho, iDevices and Nexus devices should have no excuse for issues in their updates. While they both still do, it could be as simple as a configuration or app compatibility issue. But beyond that, there should be no excuses for either of them. For other Android devices, with the sheer number of different models and hands in the pot so to speak, it's kind of amazing that they have as good of a track record as they do.

Funny that I just got into an argument with Kiko007 about how Apple doesn't properly test their updates before releasing them. Kiko told me I was wrong, then this happens the very next day! LOL! Darkkjedii doesn't want to talk to me anymore because I said that real techies don't like or recommend Apple anymore. I mentioned that the people who buy Apple products do so because of the logo and not because of technology. Mxzyptlk, Darkkjedii, Kiko007, jimrod, Cnour, Alixmalik, and Kumar123 just don't have credibility anymore. Everytime they defend Apple for something stupid, Apple comes out and proves them wrong immediately afterwards.

DJ owns a Note 5, and has stated in multiple occasions that it's better than his iPhone 6s Plus. He's also stated that the Note 6 is looking much more interesting that the iPhone 7 Plus. He's not an Apple fanboy, he's a tech fan.

They don't want to hear that truth ted, they know that. Here's the thing, Apple is fallen big time in its QC area, I just don't actually care. If it's gets bad enough, I simply won't buy its products. What I'm not gonna do is sit around on a tech site bitching about it, and bothering people about their choice. 444777 is a proven liar, a racist POS, and a trouble maker (Arte8800), why would I chat with him? The k4evet kid is disrespectful and here to cause trouble as well. My iPhone performs well enough on 9.3 to use it regularly, and my Note is simply the king of phones at the moment (note 6) looms bro. Hope all is well.

He may be a tech fan, but his posts many times when it comes to Apple "sound" fanboyish. When you are a tech fan, you say things equally about both sides when they are praised or criticized. This is not the case with DK. I watched him insult people just because they call Apple out on their BS, me especially. Anyway...back on topic. In all fairness this can happen to any OEM. However, these types of issues should be more of an issue for an OEM who works with multiple OS, and multiple phones that have several hardware configurations. These are issues I expect from someone like Samsung who makes Android, Tizen and hardware running Windows. THEY DONT HAVE THIS PROBLEM on such a grand scale as Apple has been having since iOS7. Apple quality needs to be attacked because this was not an issue before. The fact is Apple should be able to make billions of devices that run iOS with little to no issue because for one, they control the hardware configuration and its their software. if you look at their history as a true fan of tech and not a fanboy, you will see that their products and software have been riddled with equal or more problems that platforms that have had better success.

I concur with that, see post #24: It's not about which device you own, it's the attitude that speaks the most.

True. But no one who has used Windows, will ever say "It just works" No one who uses Android will say "it just works" No one who has use Blackberry OS/Linux/Symbian or any platform, has ever said it just works. The only people who have EVER said this are all people who use Apple products. There was a time you could say this more times than not. But this wasn't been the case for a while. Apple claiming they've only had a few complaints. well that can mean anything. Just like they claimed only 9 people had bending iPhone 6 Plus'. Turns out 1000's of people posted on the site Oneofthenine showing they had a bent phone. Many complained they went to the Apple store and were turned away saying they purposely damaged their phone. If it was meet I would have broken every single computer I could get my hands on as I walked out the door. When you customers who have spent serious cash on your products have issues, and you blame it on them; what does it say about you as a company? When you have a reputation to keep clean, you should be helping each and every customer with their issue and not pushing it off trying to find blame. Apple is notorious for this and its really bad.

Why do you give this Apple fanboy so much credit? Could be special bonds or a secret Apple admirer? Which Techie fan buys an iPad or an iPhone? How stupid. This guy gives more credit to Apple than Android. You will always find him in every Apple links.

I used to think that was true. However, when I made some harsh observations about Apple and some of their customers, DJ treated it as a personal attack against him. I used a reply to a post by him as a stepping stone for the observations, but it was not leveled as a personal attack against him. That seems a little fanboish to me. Apple is no longer the company it used to be. IMO Apple doesn't care about technology anymore; they just want to bilk their customers out of as much money as possible. I can't, in good conscience, recommend Apple to my non-techie friends and family anymore because Apple's products are overpriced, underpowered, and seem to break more than other products on the market.

I agree. No point in arguing, if you aren't going to win. But I do think as a fan of tech or Apple or whatever, you should come out and just say; as a person who supports Apple; this is something that has become a serious concern of its customers as the quality of tehir products has dropped considerably sent Steve Jobs is no longer with the company. if we all can see it, you can to. If thsi was Google or Samsung, you'd be posting commenst one after another trolling and starting flame wars. The fact you wont do it here now, because its Apple; just proves what we all say about you. You're all hypocrites. I don't want to see you arguing on the next Samsung/Google article attacking them because they need to fix something. I have your post saved and will throw it in your face at every opportunity. You never have to argue when you're right. Right now you're not arguing because you'll be wrong. Smart move, smart coward.

There are better things to debate, other than things that don't matter. The subject matters, your present posting subject...doesn't. You're not a moderator, so that other stuff really can easily be ignored. If you feel the need to be so offensive to him, he must have a point. When you are right, you never have to be defensive or offensive and you never have to argue or debate. A fact can't be argued or debated, except by a fool.

I set both my iPad and iPhone to non auto updates. I will not be downloading anymore updates till iOS 10 is out and proven. Apple...what the hell is going on over there, maybe a saboteur??? I'm still rocking 9.3, which isn't saying much in terms of stability. Good, but not great.
