Apple iPhone turns 6 today

0. phoneArena posted on 29 Jun 2013, 22:13

Six years ago today, long lines and plenty of media attention greeted the Apple iPhone as it was launched; the original generation of the device carried specs that certainly wouldn't live up to today's models. The 3.5 inch screen offered resolution of 320 x 480, and a pixel density of 165ppi, a far cry from today's Retina display...

Actually just 2.5. Anything after the 3G, excluding the iPhone 4 retina display just wasn't that innovative (No, Siri doesn't count as Apple BOUGHT it practically and didn't invent it themselves).

Nope 6 years of greatness is right. You may not think so, and that's your opinion, but the stats speak for themselves. No need to hate dude.

Stats? What stats? Perhaps you mean that geekbench score which determined the iPhone 5as the slowest smartphone? :D

No I meant the huge sales, and high customer satisfaction rate. You may hate apple, and who cares if you do, but while you sit on the couch and complain on PA...Apple is busy being a huge successful business. The hell with geekbench who cares other than fanboys like you dude?

lol why should I complain actually? Apple is getting hammered left and right, and I just enjoy the show. Who cares about sales and satisfaction rates when a person who has a bit of a technical background, can buy a good Android phone, root it, install a custom rom on it (liquidsmooth for example :)) and have his phone behave EXACTLY down to the tiniest detail the way he or she wants.

I got a galalxy S3 (2012 phone) running Liquidsmooth 2.7 Android 4.2.2. It can do almost anything: From the lockscreen, I now get all the lockscreen widgets immediately expanded upon waking the phone, so I can scroll through them easily. Wanna access my lockscreen ring - I just tap on it. I can also hold it in its previous state to unlock the phone. Below it I got the Navbar. I swipe from the navbar up, and can change my ring mode from vibrate\mute\normal.

Below that I got the 3 normal GS3 buttons. Well the home button unlocks my phone but you'd think that's about it, right? WRONG. I set my long press menu button to enable\disable the torch light, my long press home button to change my ring mode as well, just because I can, and my long press back button to instantly launch the camera.

All this from the LOCK SCREEN.

But wait, it gets better. My home button also acts as a screen off button, so 1 press of it wakes the phone, another unlocks it, and another locks it back on!! Also, with my phone unlocked, I set a long press on the menu button to launch a widget viewfinder which instantly brings me a Google Keep note widget. A long press on the back button leads to a shortcut to a folder I made which includes shortcuts to the torch light, the camera, waze and Google music ID. In addition the folder includes 4 shortcuts to 'popup widgets' - shirtcuts upon pressing which a widget of your choice comes up instantly. So this above mentioned folder appears ANYWHERE I want it to appear regardless of in which app I am - and I can instantly popup my calendar widget, my calculator widget, my fav weather widget, etc.

But it gets even better. With a feature called HALO, I have a little orb in my corner which lights up when there is a notification coming, and when I click on the orb, a mini FULLY FUNCTIONAL version of the app which made the notification appears, and I can quickly respond to it, while anything I was doing before that gets paused.

That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the actual possibilities of what this thing can do.

So high satisfaction ratings? Screw them. I got my phone working PRECISELY the way I want. How many iPhone users can ever say that?

To that I simply say; who the hell cares. Enjoy your phone, and trust when I'm banking on my Iphone, recording my sons games on my iPhone, taking pics, YouTubing, gaming, reading, enjoying the web, or whatever it is I'm doing. I don't think about you, geekbench, or the speed of the persons android that's next to me. You wrote all that for nothing. Who the F** cares what your phone can do other than you dude? You've become am fanboyish idiot since you left iOS for android...enjoy your phone "I got my phone working PRECISELY the way I want. How many iPhone users can ever say that". Well all of them if their phones work according to how they want them to. I can't believe how dumb of a statement that was...later dude lol gee wiz

lol denial will bring you nothing. If everyone's tastes were exactly alike - we would all be wearing clothes of the same style and color. We don't. So yes - having something you use very often behave exactly like you want to - is a very major issue.

Dude I'm not your enemy, nor do I dislike you so I apologize for any arrogance. I simply remember you being about choice, and people enjoying what they like ilia. Not everyone want android, or iOS, choice right? You've sat here and explained all this stuff your phone can do, and that's great, but dude I don't need all that. I have a note 2 also, and it's not even rooted...why? Cuz it works for me as is, and so does my Iphone. Sorry for the arrogance, enjoy your device. The s3 is a top notch phone no argument from me on that one, and enjoy your day as well. It's my birthday tomorrow, but since its a work day I'm celebrating it with my fiancé today. Headed to see White House down. Be cool dude.

No disrespect intended just teasing. Sometime we "myself included" get too tightly wound about this trivial tech stuff. Cool?

Sure man, happy birthday. :) My point wasn't that the iPhone is unsuitable for anyone or other unrooted android devices were unsuited for everyone. Obviously people who like simplicity and aren't tech-savvy might want to buy the iPhone (although given the latest incarnation of iOS that's debatable as well).

My point was that just because a smartphone has high satisfaction ratings and huge sales doesn't mean that it's good. It might be good for someone, but it doesn't mean it's good for YOU! NO ONE should buy a product such as a smartphone m. ely based on customer satisfaction and sales without being aware of all of its advantages and disadvantages vs the competition.

Now supposedly you realize that the iPhone doesn't quite match your desires and demands from a smartphone. What do you do about it? Well you can compromise and buy it, or buy a WP8 device, or even buy an Android phone and remain on stock firmware but if you are like me - you won't compromise. You will get a good Android phone, you will root it, you will install a custom ROM on it and you will tweak its guts until you get the exact setup that you want, to get the best experience for you, so you can get the best value for your hard-earned money.

LMAOOOOO PS. you should try getting laid sometime, and stop spending so much time customizing your phone, and running geekbench. Dude you have issues man lol.

I only count the Steve Jobs years. The last 2 iPhones were weak and predictable. Today the iPhone 5 is a midrange device in 2nd place.

A midrange device with better benchmark scores than the likes of the S3? The iPhone is better optimized than any Android phone so it will feel much snappier than a monster phone will.

Yet is still does nothing new. Oh I forgot, MMS made it a couple years ago right? Talk about innovation.

I love my iPad, but this thing gets boring as heck. So much so, I only use it to browse the web and watching Netflix.

Well it would be nice to have some customization. The keyboard sucks no matter what fans say, so writing on it isn't that great. All the things I really wanted it for are best handled by my phone. There's your shocker, lol!

Barely faster than the S3, creamed by the S4 (and HTC One, and Note 2, and Nexus 4, and Z-10...)

The S3??? The S4 and HTC One has made the iPhone 5 midrange. And actually I made a mistake; it's more like 4th place by today's standards.
Apple won't have an answer for these phones for another 3 months. And the 5s won't have enough to even surpass them. Apple is no longer a leader; their followers.
