In addition phonearena rates the XR 10/10. It's the perfect phone? Anyhow well done Apple, although Im not a fan of the XR, hence I didn't buy it,the X is a better phone.

I had the Xr first but because of size, I went for the X in the end. I see how it is better but not so much better to me.

The XR is the best of the bunch. I have two in my family and they perform well for the price.

“The $250 difference in the starting price between the iPhone XR and iPhone XS, and the $350 difference with the iPhone XS Max were the biggest reasons for this expectation.“ The reason is that 2 or 300$ brings almost no fundamental advantage over XR; 3Dt is nice to have, but quite niched, the display is pretty much the same (with the differences of the techs used and support for hdr), same camera (zoom is again meh), pretty much the same performances but way better battery life for XR. It’s a no brainer that XS is the worse choice.

Can’t you like... move closer? I’m not a picture taking kind of guy (I mostly need a good camera for scanning documents and instantaneous shots so I’m not one to talk about this), but I have passionate friends and they just move with their dslr closer to the model instead of zooming.

No in lot of situations you just can't go closer or you already lost the moment. For example think about concerts, sports, kids, animals. Also when you take closeup photos, it's lot better to take with 2x and you won't have the annoying shadow coming from you or from the phone or other reflections. Bigger and bigger zoom is definately the feature i'm waiting most from smartphone cams and it's kind a feature which will get my money. But it has to be lossless because i only zoom if the quality stays good, that's the biggest thing i'm missing from my DSLR. 2X zoom can already make big difference for the photo you got in situations where you just can't get closer to subject.

I’m not saying it’s not good or you should’t appreciate it, I’m just speaking my mind - the mind of a point and shoot guy. Enjoy the feature, bro :).
