Doesn't matter. People whine very much when Sony uses the same design (not exactly the same, btw) for 3 years. Not the case with Apple.

Why doesn't it Matter? Sony for 3 years were using the same design for their new phones... this isn't what sony is doing.. this isn't a new phone.. its a "Special Edition" of a old phone, of a "apple classic"

So, being a special edition doesn't make it New? Please elaborate that clearly. They are in fact using the same design for 3 years.

The issue i think is that you're viewing this in a mindset someone who is accustomed to product releases of android OEMs.. you're seeing the iPhone SE as a new product, which it is not.. its a special updated edition of a fan favourite. Taking on a new design just wouldn't make much sense when they will release an new designed 4inch iPhone when they release the new iPhone 7's... its why they went with a special edition and not a new product. Android has had its own fair share of special edition.. they aren't new phones there just if anything fan service.

Android has special editions too I'm sure, yes, they can use the same design, but the fact is, (no matter what it is) it's still, one, using the same design and two, is a new release. Using your understanding, believe it or not, the Z series from Sony can also be classified as 'Special Edition' too (I don't know what the arguments are, but some might say so) that uses the same design for 3 consecutive years and can do so until the next series come out.

Using my understanding the Z series from Sony wouldn't be classified as 'Special Edition'. This is a flagship phone using the same design over several years...unlike the iPhone 5s that was dropped and was in the process of being phased out.. the iPhone 6 and 6 plus will be the next phones to be phased out for example. So its a special edition of an iPhone 5s, the last 4inch phone that apple created.. of course the design wouldn't change being a special edition of an iPhone 5s... it isnt meant to be a new iPhone, but it is a clear indicator that apple is bring back the 4inch phone so instead of wasting money and time for a new design for a phone that is due to be completely phased this year.. they would just re-release (not a new product launch that you seem to think it was) a Special Edition of the iPhone 5s and introduce a new 4 inch iPhone 7 and finally phase out the iPhone 5s. So it isnt a new product but only is intended to be a Special Edition of an iPhone 5s the last 4inch phone apple made.

Yeah but some people might also say that the Z series are also special editions. 'Just a small, flagship update', like what you refer to the SE.

Really cool on the specs side, extremely powerful!! My only disappointment is that there are no desing changes versus the 5s and that no other colors were added. The true tone display should had been added as well since they choose to do so with the new 9.7-inch iPad. In any case, it deserves a 4 out 5 stars ^_*

Apple should of done it like this. iPhone SE = iPhone 6s Air iPhone 6s = iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus = iPhone 6s Pro

I'm a Samsung fan but I have serious trouble understanding why Samsung won't release a 4"- 4.5/7" budget phone with flagship specs like this iPhone SE! The A5 series 2016 doesn't have a great camera or chipset but it's the closest at the moment and it's too damn expensive in my country for a midrange device. Now Samsung will appear to be "copying" if they should choose to respond to the release of the iPhone SE

S7 mini is coming

I was surprised they never released a s6 mini last year, but then I guess the A series was meant to fill that position. To me the Alpha was the last great samsung galaxy miniesque smartphone as it had the exynos 5430, 32gig and premium buld to make it flagship worthy then. If only the A series had better processors!, but if rumours are true then an s7 mini is on the cards with flagship processor to boot.

this explains why the iphone 5/5s screen part prices shot up over the past 6 months

Damn!!!! If it had 128GB storage, I would have upgraded my 64GB iPhone 5S. I like the smaller form factor. But, there is no point at all in upgrading a 64GB phone for the same.

great compact smartphone ... would be best if there is 3D touch...probably they don't compete with their own iPhone 6s

Looks like Apple is determined to make "3D touch" a premium feature available only to top products, lessening it's overall value. It's telling when Android manufacturers doesn't feel the need to respond to Apple with their own offering of pressure sensitive touch.

Too small for me but a good looking phone. Wish my 6s plus look more like this. 3 sizes to fit people's needs. Just about right.

To be honest here, I like the price. But will not be for most people though, just as the Sony compact series. I don't know for what reasons people will buy this phone for, but let's all just wait.

This phone makes me sad. I like the smaller form factor, but I can't consider it without a 128GB option.

64 GB is enough I think. 16 GB is definitely too small. You can't argue that a larger screened phones are more functional, and will appeal to much more people. The specs advantage and the small size with this phone is nice for a niche market, but still are not for most people. But, remember, Samsung S7 mini is coming, so this phone will definitely get competition, which potentially will shrink the sales even more.

64GB is enough only if you can pull out the SD card and swap for another one. Trend has always been for greater storage needs, and as 16GB is obsolete, so will 64GB in near future. With Android phones, there is no need to settle for limited storage thanks to numerous phones with SD card slot, but ifans are stuck with limited storage courtesy of Apple.

"Orders begin March 24". Shouldn't that be March 24, 2012?

I think this phone, since in the US they are getting rid of subsidies, will appeal to the poor Apple people who can't afford a regular 6 or 6S that can only buy phones on subsidies. $399 is basically the price of a midrange Android phone. Also I think it will sell well internationally in 3rd world countries.

It will sell well in a 3rd world country at the US price of a 6s

Whatever you think of the phone it is a step in the right direction from the usual $649 entry point. Now that is good news for consumers who don't want to be parted from ios.
