Except HSPA+ isn't truly 4G...

Thanks, now I don't have to point that out.

except.. your wrong, it is. They changed the definitions a good while ago. Under the old rules 4G doesnt exist yet on a carrier. Under the new rules anything that can go (i think its) 12mb/s or higher can be concidered 4g.

Yes the rules have been changed for almost a year now. WiMAX, HSPA+ & LTE are ALL 4G. That should be common knowledge by now!

I guess 3.9G is a little difficult to market.

Well if it meets the new standard then it's 4G. WiMAX, HSPA+ & LTE meet that standard so 3.9G really makes no sense. If it meets the new 4G standard then guess what....... it's 4G! Don't know how else to say it. Again it's not me that said this it's the International Telecommunication Union that said this in December of 2010 in Geneva.

So basically the "old" 4G standard will be redefined as 5G. Which is where I feel Verizon played it right, because their 4G LTE network will be much smoother to upgrade to 5G LTE Advanced.

No 4G includes WiMAX, HSPA+, & LTE. All the way up to WiMAX 2 & LTE Advanced which both can reach up to 100 Mbps or more. We are nowhere near 5G, by then you will be talking about Nanotechnology, Cloud Computing & All IP Platform. They call it 5G NanoCore. That is way in the future. First let's enjoy 4G first. That doesn't make sense to me, especially from a marketing standpoint. I can accept that the step up from 1 Mbps 3G to 10 Mbps can be called 4G. A tenfold increased qualifies as next-generation to me. But when we move from 10 Mbps 4G to 100 Mbps, what will they call it? "Faster 4G"? It's tricky, because the technology involved in LTE and LTE-Advanced will be the same "generation", but I can't imagine the marketing departments are going to accept it. And let's face it, marketing rules.

4G+ is the term. :) its no different than when GSM 3g went from 1.5mbs to 7.2mbs. It was still "3G" and that was over a 600% increase.

"we are nowhere near 5G" ?? Yeah until they change the definition again. lol

they didnt change the definition, they changed the threshold. the "4G" technologies are still the same, they just lowered the bar from 100mbs to 12 mbs. LTE, HSPA+, and Wimax were 4G techs before and after the change.

Doesn't matter when you are churning the market in advance of the release of the new iPhone....

I think the real let-down will be if Apple doesn't release an iPhone 5 at their presser....

It would be suicide for Apple to not run LTE in the iPhone 5.

iPhone outsells all LTE phones on VZW combined so no it's not suicide. If it supports hspa+, which I believe it will that will be more than enough. Remember it's a world phone and hspa is widely available while LTE is not.

valid point by taco. one day he may actually give credit when people agree with him, instead of pretending that never happened, so he can continue to call people one sided.

no, your just finally noticing because im defending apple and such at the moment. if i were defending android with the same subject, you would be calling me a fandroid. your perception has changed, my arguements have not. i defend anything i think is accurate and go after anything i think is innacurate.. period.

I did give you credit for agreeing with me a few articles back. You have been a little more fair handed, but still overall very biased when it comes to Apple and T Mobile

All people care about is 4G, not LTE or WiMax. So as long there is "4g" in the names or specs, people will go mad for it. Besides LTE and WiMax are battery killers.
