Apple iPad launch not your usual sell-out; real time chart shows breakdown of Apple iPad use

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Mar 2012, 22:18

Checks of a dozen New York Apple Stores by BGR found that none of them had sold out their inventory of Apple iPads by 5:00pm EDT; that is unlike past years when all of the stores would be reporting a sell out before the afternoon...

"You think the size of the screen is an update?"

Yes? Also how about a better processor, expandable memory, better camera, increased functionality, new OS, 4G, HDMI capability, HD video, AMOLED screen, shall I go on?

It doesn't matter if it's on different carriers, it's samsung who makes them.

they differentiate at the carrier's request. for better or worse, apple is the only one that gets away with doing what THEY want with the phone. Everyone else has to bow to carrier demands.

If you do in fact own a note then you should know the difference. The note is larger, has a slightly faster processor, a better screen, a larger battery, . Then you have the S-Pen which is the real selling point of the note. Again, if you do indeed have a note as you say, then you should know how niiiiiiiiiice the S-Pen is. Especially if you're in to taking pictures. The S-Pen tech alone makes the Note a totally different device.

And you say your Note has a lag problem, must be you have a defective handset because my brother has the Note and
I've seen no lag whatsoever on it. Neither has he. And he's a guy who was very skeptical of Android until get got the Note.

Lmao, the s-pen isn't the selling point. Its pointless. The selling point is the 5.3 inch HD screen and that its basically a phone/tablet in one. If you or anyone bought the note for the s-pen your definitely brainwashed by Samsung. The note has a weak dual core processor compared to exynos. Yes i know its for LTE purposes. This is a big azz gs2 no matter how you look at it. Just like the skyrocket.

You can make a pen for smartphones and tablets with stuff you have around the house. The difference is that is a high quality pen, because you can also buy pens.

Yes, the Skyrocket, Note and Skyrocket HD are all just the SGS2 with minor tweaks, but here's the thing, people who bought the SGS2 are not stupid enough to throw away their current phone just to go for the Skyrocket or Note. And second, it didn't take Samsung 1 Year+ to release these minor-ly tweaked SGS2s.

As for not buying until SGS3 is out. Look at the SGS, then at the SGS2 and now go read the rumor roundup article for the SGS3. For one, they are not minor tweaks, you can already see quite a huge difference in design between the SGS and the SGS2 (But just enough to be able to tell the SGS2 is a upgraded model of the SGS). Now look at the iPhone 1 all the way to the iPhone 4S, looking from the front you can hardly tell the difference between the iPhone 1 to the 3G and 3GS, nor the difference between the iPhone 4 and the 4S.

The reason fandroids like me are hype up over the SGS3 is because it's not just a minor tweak like the Skyrocket, it's a whole new design (with a hint of the old one).

Then look at iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. Do you guys seriously think that because it has the same design and screen it's the same phone. That is your problem. Of course no one is going to buy the skyrocket if they have SGS2. Update from i4 to i4S is as reasonable has upgrading from SGS to SGS2, so stop making stupid comments about "minor updates", when in reality are true updates. And the way the phone looks doesn't matter where i live, but the way it works, design would matter if older models were ugly or outdated but if they still look good and have a premium feel, then there is no problem. And you guys call us "sheeps" and say were blinded by apple. What about you, who's gonna deny you all are also blinded by other companies?

You want to know why you idiots think the iPhone 4S is a major upgrade from the iPhone 4? Because it took Apple one whole friggin year and a few months to come up with it! Like it or not you Apple people are forced to believe it's the best because it's the latest by Apple.

If Samsung had released the Skyrocket now as the SGS3, no doubt all the fandroids would rage, but at least we have other companies to fall back on like HTC or Sony, you guys don't, that's why you still believe a beta voice assistant and a dual core processor which does no good for the 4S are a major upgrade

The iPhone 4S to the iPhone 4 is what the Skyrocket is to the SGS2, what the SGS+ is to the SGS. Just one look at the 4S and you can tell the "innovative people" at Apple took 5 minutes to settle on the updates and spent the rest of their time counting the money that the sheep gave them.

OK, I realize you are a severely retarded man, but even you should know this. If they couldn't even move through half their stock, the f*** makes you think all of a sudden there will be a huge demand for the ipad 2.000000001? It failed, most of you drones opened your dull cow eyes and realized it just wasnt worth it. Nice spin, drone.
So you are seriously trying to tell us that every source who reported the ipad 2.0000000000001s FAILURE was lying? Holy s*** are you deluded. VERY sad. And you got some steve on your chin there guy.

Mandrone you are a lucky man.. you managed to be dumb and stupid.... at the same time congrats.... is only launch day and too early to be considered a failure.... second.. Apple was better prepared this time as the have more inventory available... an Android tablet doesnt move half of what Apple moved today in tablets... are all those failures... yes if we go by your dumb @ss standards.... do yourself a favor and dont reply... as you will only sound dumber

1. Who is this 'Mandrone'?
2. Oh I get it, being an iDiot you don't have an ounce of creativity in you, so you switched my name to 'Mandrone'. Brilliant!
3. OK not really.
4. Launch day is HIGHLY indicative (BIG word, I know, Google it and ask an adult for help) of a products success. uh-DUUUUHH
5. You're the last person to be calling folks out for sounding "dumber". Tell ya what, champ, sling an actual sentence together then we'll talk.......o.......k...?
6. Shut up and die, you f***ing cretin.

Launch weekend is a huge indicator, as it is normally the highest sales weekend for a device (unless there is some crazy sale going on).

Yea, they had extra stock on hand, but according to early charts, they are still selling LESS than previous models did with their limited inventory. That is not a good thing.

Has apple finally hit their peak and started their downturn? Its too early to tell. I wil say that if this really does stay a flop (in iOS sales terms), and the i5 doesnt catch fire, it will be the beginning of the end for Apple's dominance. Of course, they havent actually dominated in a long time, with apple taking only half of the market that android has.. and android at 49% of the tablet market last month... its only a month or so away from becoming an android tablet market.

if the iphone had competition in the iOS space with other iOS devices of different shapes and sizes, it wouldnt have huge launch days either. The only reason it does is because there is only 1 new device a year. If there were 20, it wouldnt be such a big deal. So thats a non-sequitur. try again. :)

If you talk about seling being released once a year with upgraded specs bla bla.. doesnt matter in the out worlds.. 1 will always equals 1.. Apple will sell millions of the new ipad... doesnt matter if it is on day one.. week one.. or year one...

your right.. 1 will always equal 1. and in the real world, android is outselling apple 2 to 1 and above. of course, you hold dearly to that "apple is the #1 selling device" matra, all you want. In the end, it helps you sleep well at night. But back in the real world it doesnt mean squat.

At the end of the day, whether there is stock still in stores or not, the new iPad will have sold more than all Android OEM tablet makers combined - not just this weekend, but for months to come.

Tech sites gave good advice - if you have an iPad 2, there's no need to get a new iPad; and if you have the original iPad or don't have an iPad and want one, the new iPad would be a nice purchase.

The new iPad will continue to sell, in droves, over the next 12 months; and once the price drops to make room for the 4th iteration, it will sell even more.

It is simply a device that many people want; not sure why posters on various sites want to downplay or disparage consumers or the iPad because of it.

This not true! That's un-possible!!! The RDF was bound to pop sooner or later I guess.

I hope sales of the iPad 3 (or New iPad, or iPad 2S, iPad 2 HD, etc.) are somewhat lackluster. Not because I'm some troll pleasuring myself over some perceived momentous Apple loss, but because you can sure as hell bet if they are that the next iteration will be way more competitive. And with that, the Apple competitors only get pushed even harder to do better.
That's what makes the industry competitive... this constant one-upping. Otherwise it'd be stagnant & unremarkable.

It's the fluctuation and the chaos that spurs life; the same could happen to their stocks if they don't get a little more up and down. The market works on buy low, sell high. Apple's stock has been higher n' higher. Good for the short term, but not in the long run as fewer and fewer will be able to afford the stock.

i think b/c most people go for the Wifi only models its not that big of a deal. i've sold maybe 7 total since launch. only 3 of those opted for the LTE plan. the difference between the iPad2 launch and the new iPad launch is that these devices are, for the most part, identical. coming from the iPad 1 there was at least some major hardware differences w/the iPad2 offering (size/weight, cameras, display) but w/the new iPad there's not enough differences.

I believe that what will end up becoming the Achilles's heel of the new iPad is its FAIL front-facing camera.
