Apple dethrones Gazprom for the most profitable corporate quarter in the history of mankind

We still live in the oil era, and know the extraction business is a good business, right? Case in point are the top 20 largest quarterly net profit amounts that companies have reported - 15 of them are coming from oil and gas companies. The rest is... a certain company in the "fickle" consumer electronics business. In fact, said gizmo maker occupies five of the top 10 slots in the largest quarterly profits ranking list...

Apple really has the prime cut of the consumer beef. That's is what irk the other Phone OEM to no end. That's why i always congratulate Apple Inc. Wish i can find a reason to congratulate iOS user on Apple huge profit as well. I am still thinking will get back on you.

Given that it was the best-selling phone in China last quarter, I'm not sure they are worrying too much. Let that sink in: Not the Samsungs, Meizus, or Xiaomis, it was Apple who was number 1 in China. I guess we can stop calling Xiaomi the "Apple of China" because it seems like Apple is the "Apple of China."

Mine isn't burning. All their products are overpriced. However, they are good at what they do, advertising. If people are willing spend their money on what they want, that isn't my business. I will support Android until MS makes an awesome Lumia phone that doesn't have Microsoft logo on it. Then I might be thinking about trying WP out. Window 10 is going to be awesome for desktop, and for the first time it's going to be free (for a year after the released). However, Apple has done that for a long time with that OS for Mac. Kudo to Apple.

Oil price low, Iphone price high. Apple profit high, oil company profit low. Simple.

Just fyi, if you are comparing total ios/iphone sales to total android phone sale, android phones beat them by so much it isn't funny, the main difference is androids variety in both actual phone hardware, as well as phone producers, split up all the sales between the various companies that make android hardware, and yes they aren't that close.

ya selling 50$ tablets and 90$ phones isn't much of achievement , I've had these devices before they don't offer a good experience rather buy a good second hand iPhone. there's a huge market for that as well.

Just shows how overpriced Applephones are. 200% profit? They put ancient, cheap-ass components in them that Android phones have matched specwise in 2012 and people still pay out of their ass. Guess this will fall on deaf ears for people like Darkkjedi that like to get assrammed by Tim Cook.

it's all relative , not everyone is a spec sheet craving geek. some people like user experience , better Apps etc. even music nothing like the convenience of having a iPod in your phone.

Apple and Exxon own the profits man. I remember Antutu saying the new iPhones wouldn't sell, even said to mark his words. Antutu, which foot would you like in your mouth.

Wooooo! Apple is in my portfolio. Please everyone, keep buying Apple products. You are a social failure unless you buy the iWatch, iP6s, AND iPad Air 3. Your kids will get picked on at school for having lame android phones. BUY BUY BUY. Be a good little consumer and put money in my pocket.

And thanks to Samsung for helping Apple break and make such records in earnings. Samsung's spectacularly successful phablet revolution has pressured Apple into the fortune and fame it is enjoying today.

There is two reasons for this. 1) China 2) People upgraded their phones to a size they were drooling for, but would never admit it because their tiny little iPhone was claimed to be superior by the masses. When they released the new one, now it's "ok" to have a 5.5" screen. I will be very surprised if their stocks rise next time. I don't see people upgrading next time around. This was the upgrade they have been waiting for. For 4 years!!!
