WTF does Verizon's map add have to do with the ipad ....I'm confused at your stupidity If any of Apple's products ever went to a real network people would leave AT&T so fast Luke Wilson would go back to being "dead" overnight

You think AT&T is making a lot of money on the iPhone? Just because its the most popular source of revenue doesnt make it the only source of revenue or the most profitable.

with bluetooth, i'd imagine VOIP with a program like skype would be possible with a headset. Plus, this way there are no additional costs for minutes. Things are looking positive for this tablet

OMG!!! After reading the play-by-play on Engadget, the only thing I can say is... OMG!!! What a let down!! After all the hype, all the speculating of a good tablet, new iPhone OS, or even a Verizon version of the iPhone, we end up with a giant iPod Touch?!?!? I know not to believe in speculation, but after all that has happened with mobile devices in the past year, I couldn't help but get my hopes up a little bit for something actually good to come from this media event. And to boot, they put it on AT&T... A data only device, from Apple, on AT&T... The company who blames its poor 3G coverage mostly on the amount of iPhones using data... "I know what will make it all better, let's add a data only device to our network, that will help"... WHAT?!?!?! Sorry iPhone users, looks like your service won't be getting better anytime soon. Maybe Apple is out of ideas. The 3rd party developers are really what made the iPhone/iPod Touch great. Apple saw how much money could be made by creating a new platform (which honestly isn't all that knew... IT'S A BIG IPOD TOUCH!!!), and then leaving it up to the 3rd party developers to make it great. I hope for the consumers sake, the developers are ready (actually I hope they all see what Crapple just pulled and shy away from this device, ultimately showing Crapple that the consumers can only be sold the same thing so many time... lol). BTW... Android FTW :D

I agree.... I see the ipad as a 9.7 inch vacuum that sucks up your money. Apple is essentially giving you a mobile store front to conveniently purchase music, tv, movies, books, apps, etc...

How would coverage be determined by data use? If everyone stopped using data would a man in South Dakota finally be able to call the 7 other people who live in his state?

Well I know it seems like it isn't gonna change things, but just watch. This is gonna spark. I went to class the day the iPad was announced and I opened up my Macbook and started Safari. Obviously, communist Apple makes Safari their homepage, so I saw the iPad. I clicked on it. Within 10 seconds, I had a stadium seating of students staring at my computer and going "WHATS THAT." And this is History, so its not like its a fanboys class or club. I reallllllllly think this iPad is gonna shape much of the way people use netbooks for college. I'd love to have one of these. Noticing that it will have the option for Pages, I can now just type my notes on a super thin pad instead of bringing my beloved MacBook Pro. Yea, their isn't a whole operating system, but honestly, I don't need a whole operating system for college. Plus, wait till next year. They always sell you on their products so people rush to them, then the next year they drastically change with some super amazing feature they sure as hell could have put in their previous product lol. BTW, I'm sorry for you people who live in South Dakota. Sucks you can't get AT&T 3G over there, but at least you can invest in the cheaper iPad haha, right?

fix: I used their instead of there in "Yea, their isn't a whole operating system..." SO DON'T JUDGE ME, I KNOW I MESSED UP :]

A giant iTouch, that comes with AT&T's incredible 3G Network, and it doesn't multitask! looks nice, but really? c'mon on some of us weren't born yesterday.. thanks, but no thanks. I'll just stick to my netbook which can multitask, has wiFi with its 160GB disk space with 1 GHZ of RAM for under $300.00

Haha, just wait, you'll see everyone with one of these and you'll want one. It'll probably have multitasking in a update, kinda like what this whole iPhone 4.0 gibberish is starting to rumor as. Plus the data plan for the iPad is cheaper than a netbooks plan.

This was a rather anti-climactic (blame the media) event. Lack of phone functionality, multi-tasking, GPS location based services, and 3G outside of AT&T (here in the US) makes it a much more niche device than it really had to be. The claim that all iPhone apps will work natively out of the box is a stretch at best without GPS (for some apps) and screen size/pixel dimensions (on other apps). Was I hoping for an iPhone Plus (haha Palm reference) on the VZW network? Yeah, I'll admit to it. Was I hoping that the iSlate (dislike the iPad name, cue menstrual jokes on late night TV) was closer to the iPhone than the iTouch? Yeah, I'll admit to it to. In the end, it's an impressive piece of technology, but I'm not sure I agree with Mr. Jobs on it being all that it could be and then some.

Why would you want something that big to be a phone? It's a computer, not a phone!

its not a computer either. I would call it a faster oversized ipod-touch

A bluetooth headset to handle the call aspect while your iPad (**shudder at the name**) is anywhere in the room would have been a pretty revolutionary idea. Like a cordless phone meets cell phone radio.

I love the fact that all of the att haters are wondering what happend today. Apple is giving no love to vzw because all the neg ad's that vzw was pointing at the coverage and the iphone. The droid does ad's didn't help vzw's cause either. Verizon has the most customers so why are they coming after att? And they expect apple to back them. PLEASE!

FYI... the coverage ads, were directed at AT&T, not Apple. The Droid Does ad's did help vzw's cause two-fold... 1) just look at the Droid sales and 2) well, Droid Does :) Especially multitasking. How can you create "a magical device" - Steve jobs, to compete with Netbooks, and not have expandable memory for one and multitasking for two!! Come on now :( Oh, and charge up to $830 for it?!?!?!

Hmm...how about the holiday add involving the iPhone look alike being in the Island of Misfit toys? Despite the reference to reception being the issue, you cannot put a clear negative iPhone reference in ads and expect Apple to laugh it off. They most likely have burned their bridges. Unfortunately they cannot stop trying to counter the iPhone with negative ads until they get the iPhone which they cannot do unless they stop running negative ads to counter it. its quite the vicious cycle.

thats case and point. They took jabs at apple in most of early neg ads. Not smart if they want the phone that is hurting them the most. Hail to the Globe!

OK folks... you think apple would not expand their business because of some stupid ads? Apple knocks microsoft all the time, yet who gave them tons of money when they weren't doing so well financially? Apple is no stranger to attack adds, they know business is business especially in marketing. Companies don't care about their "feelings", they care about money. Apple is unique in that Apple actually cares more about how THEY want to do things, not their customers, their vendors or whom ever else. I would be willing to bet Apple is happy with their sales with AT&T and even more happy with the fact AT&T will do ANYTHING to keep their agreement. To Apple power is greater then money. There is nothing wrong with that, at least they are standing up for what they believe in vs other companies that would sell their souls along with their customers. I would not be surprised if talks with Verizon weren't going as well as Apple thought, they couldn't get a majority of data fees or something. It also wouldn't surprise me if Verizon had some insane demands as well, though recently Verizon seems to be less hell bent on locking phones down to sell "their" gps/music services. I am sure Apple devices will come to other providers but it seems like both Apple and Verizon went to the table thinking they had the other over their knee.

Come to think of it ... for AT&T's Network's sake ... I'm glad it doesn't multi-task. lol

Looks like a pretty neat toy... but I'm not sure what it's used for? The iPod replaced my walkman and the iPhone can replace my old cell phone, so what's this replace? It's not powerful enough to be a laptop or a gaming system replacement and it's too expensive to be a netbook replacement. Is it just supposed to replace stuff around the house, like books or my TV? I'm sure people will buy a ton of these, but I wonder how many will end up on eBay 4 months later when the novelty wears off...

I was just hoping it wouldnt really end up looking like just a big Ipod/Iphone like alot of people predicted... I guess they couldnt come up with any better designs... and no multi task? there is no excuse for that at all. That issue should have been fixed by now.

keep in mind, Apple is known for doing something like this. They do it so that next year they can re-release the SAME device with one new feature and people jump on it. Look at the 2G to 3G and then to the 3Gs.....

I guess like the Storm 2 or the Env3? If it were on VZW, you would put the BS spin on it.

News Flash!! You're full of shit! You are just another VZW ass kissing employee looking for a cum up. You might get it if your lips are bigger as VZW loves ass kissers. That hate people who give alternative ideas. If you are not a yes man, then you are "trouble."
