0. phoneArena posted on 26 Feb 2013, 14:06

Considered to be the Father of Android, what Andy Rubin says is always worth a listen and what he is talking about now is Samsung's success with Android which he says can be traced back to execution; at the same time, Rubin said that he is friendly toward the open Firefox OS and says that there are certain regions where Android would be too expensive and that Firefox OS could reach those markets...

i think he was relating to htc because htc cant make up their mind how to dominate the market. they just keep making random devices and try to sell it for $600. samsung makes 2 devices and sells it for $600 and the rest clutterf**k samsung makes cost no more than $200. which is very smart.

HTC's problem is they don't listen to the consumers. We've been telling them for years that they need bigger batteries in their phones and they just won't do it.

..and maybe Nokia. Maybe they should drop S40 for Symbian or Firefox for the low-end...

Find their own way of doing it??? Samsung have used similar tactics as Apple. Granted, they make good quality products but all their advertising is based on making them out to be this 'cool' manufacturer. That's exactly how Apple work. Fashion over function.

Their own way being the implementation of customizations ot the basic inter face, the reason that Android was open in the first place. It seems that it was designed to be only a base, with the manufacturers creating the interface and user experience. This is the area in which Samsung has created their success, being the most customized interface available.

They've taken several pages from apple, and have been highly successful in doing so. Now apple should stop suing Sammy, and take a few pages from them as well. Sammy learned from apple to unify their brand, and showcase the practicality of their devices in commercials instead of just specs. Sammy has been growing, cuz due to the pagers they've taken from apple they now appeal to the mainstream consumer instead of just techies like moto, nexus, and Htc. Apple has let the student become the master, now they need to do a 180

As much as I hate Apple - I love Steve jobs. Steve turned Apple from near bankruptcy to Apple it was until Q4 2011. A company which used to innovate at almost every product - until Tim 'attorney' Cook came along and made S products with 0 innovation.

All the products from Jobs' death to the iPad mini are still Jobs' "innovations". The iPad mini wasn't Cook's idea.
When Cook took over, all of Jobs' products were still in effect.
Don't blame Cook.

Steve would never allow a "beta" product to be released. He would never allow the past and current state of Apple maps and he was against the idea of a 7" tablet. It doesn't matter if all of Apple's products are his ideas - he was deathky ill and obviously didn't think right. The Steve Jobs I know from his bibliography would never allow for Apple to fall behind on so many things.

It's a great deal of many things, but I think the main reason is the absolute determination to destroy Android and the banning of the Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 and the Galaxy nexus.

To me Steve Jobs was two things, a great idea man/salesman, and an egotist. He had great ideas and knew how to market them, but relied on others to bring them to fruition. But the egotist is the reason why I dislike him. IMHO his arrogance cancels out his virtues. Telling customers what they need rather than listening to their needs, flaunting the laws (vehicle with no license plate, setting up residence in another state to move himself up the line for a transplant), how he treated his child (claiming he was sterile to avoid supporting his child while he lived in luxury), shady business practices, and his general opinion of consumers (that they couldn't tell a Galaxy S from an iphone, nevermind the Samsung logos placed prominently on the packaging and phone).

The thing that really angers me about Apple is how they handle their money. They want everyone to buy their products but the lionshare of their money is kept offshore to avoid taxes. When asked to bring manufacturing back to the US by the president no less, he stated it would never happen. Meanwhile Samsung, a foreign company is creating jobs in places like Texas and California. I understand the point of capitalism is to make money, but if the country keeps slipping financially, people may not be able to buy their products. Maybe it's time to reward the loyalty their customers have shown towards them and help strengthen the country they live in.

surely money wise apple is doing better than anyone but this isnt business site. here it would be more fashionable to talk innovation. which apple sucks at.

"Fashion over function" ??? really?

Samsung's flagship devices have always been leading the market no just in terms of sales but also benchmarks and usability. And.. you say "fashion" over function?? Think you mistook Samsung for Apple.

Well then, Andy just TOTALLY ripped apart the VERY excuse that all these Samsung haters use, Samsung haters, especially the ones who use non-Samsung Androids LOVE to claim that the only reason Samsung are doing well is due to Android, a very pathetic excuse.

Andy hit the nail on the head, Samsung are successful due to their brilliant IMPLEMENTATION of their customizations and features, and putting them all together in a well rounded smartphone with great marketing, exactly why Samsung will continue to rule this year, as clearly Sony, Htc and the others haven't learnt anything from Samsung.

Exactly if samsungs success was down to just using android you would think all those others that use android would be successfull too.when you at the look at the big picturew, android is just a part of the jigsaw that makes them successful I mean it doesn't hurt having the ability creating most parts that go into a mobile phone.

Ironically Larry Page was quoted saying that Nicola Tesla was the greatest inventor of a century back, but he lacked the business perspective that made the inveStor Edison flilthy rich. Samsung may not be innovation king, but they have good ideas and they sure know how to sell it, and you don't see S3 and Note II users running to the competition so it's not smoke and mirrors.

People care more about marketing techniques and how much "swag" something gives them. I have no faith in humanity.

So you mean every person who owns a samsung phones goes to it cause of their marketing techniques and 'swag' ? that's seriously one of the most naive comments i've seen on here.i have been an owner of samsung smartphones/tablets for almost 2 year..and trust me man..i didn't go to them for their 'swag'.samsung makes better all round devices and that is why they are sucessful.sure marketing techniques work on ALOT of people who aren't mobile geeks but samsung is surely more than just a swag making company.example..if i bought an htc one x instead of a galaxy s3..what would i have to compromise? an external sd card and better battery.and that's a bigger priority to ME cause samsung provides that its surely a bigger priority for ALOT of people.
