Android users can now request invites to sideload Fortnite; pre-install is sent via email

Last Thursday, Samsung and Epic Games announced that at first, the Android version of the Fortnite Battle Royale app would be exclusive to the Galaxy Apps store. So much for that exclusivity. Anyone with an invite can now install the game, and you can request an invitation directly from Epic's website. We don't know when the invitations will be going out, but we understand that it could be as quickly as two days after the request is made. In the meantime, you will receive an email containing a pre-install that you need to load on your phone.

Since the game is bypassing the Google Play Store (Epic reportedly wants to avoid paying Google a 30% cut of revenue for a listing), Android users will have to sideload the APK. Doing this requires them to allow their phones to install apps from an unknown source, which could open up these handsets to malware. In an attempt to prevent Android phones from becoming portals to hell, a minute after an Android user starts installing the Fortnite APK, he/she will receive a notification reminding them that once installation of the game is complete, they need to rescind the approval allowing apps to be installed from unknown sources.

Epic says that 300 million of the 2.5 billion active Android phones, or 12%, will be able to run Fortnite "well." Obviously, your high-end Android models are more likely not to suffer performance issues while playing the game.
