Android now at 30% of tablet market

According to new statistics from Strategy Analytics, Android is making huge leaps in tablet market share, jumping from just 2.4% of the market last year to 30% of the market today. Of course, the statistics don't make a distinction between Honeycomb tablets and all other Android tablets...

@sniggly. Yes they are referring to tablets. If I use ghost accounts, you obviously have more :) And who gives a s**t about the thumbs up or down. We all know that those can't be trusted. You obviously think they're that important, hahahaha. What's more important sniggly, is the reality. The reality that Apple is kicking everyone's ass :)

@sniggly. "obviously the majority of Android tablets in the market are running what is really the phone version of the OS" There. Now read that carefully.

Okay, pwnage time: The article ITSELF is about the amount of Android tablets taking up tablet market share. This is not disputed. Nor is it disputed that the majority of Android tablets sold are running the phone OS. What we are disputing is your assertion that only 1 percent of all Android TABLETS are running Honeycomb. However, the article CLEARLY states: "...the latest numbers from Google say that Honeycomb is still less than 1% of the Android OS distribution." At THAT POINT IN THE ARTICLE (the point in the quote above) they are talking about 1 percent of ALL DEVICES RUNNING ANDROID EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD. To corroborate this, here's the article that figure comes from: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Gingerbread-gains-Froyo-fades-in-the-latest-Android-breakdown_id20171 Now Gemini, will you get over your f**king ego and admit that you're wrong on this point?

@sniggly. Why would I admit to be wrong when I am right. The article clearly states that majority of the android tablets out in the market have the mobile phone version of android in it. Also, this 30% ended up as android tablet SHIPPED, not bought by consumers, hahahahahahaha.

No, you were wrong when you claimed that the amount of TABLETS running Honeycomb out of the total number of Android TABLETS was 1 percent. And once again you're incorrect, the statistics from Strategy Analytics are discussing MARKET SHARE, which would refer to tablets sold, and NOT JUST SHIPMENTS. http://www.bgr.com/2011/07/21/android-tablets-now-30-of-the-market-windows-tablets-outsold-playbook-in-q2/

530gemini is delusional. He only comprehends Apple good, Android bad. The iSheep brainwashing is so bad that not even a Jedi can help him now. lol The guys has lost it. lol Ohh just to get what your iSheep mind is saying. It's not ok for Android to use their mobile OS on tablets but it's ok for Apple to use iOS on their tablet. Really?!? What?!? lol 530gemini if I had a dunce cap I would put it on you. It might not fit though because of your bloated iSheep brain! lol

@superfandroidevo. So I'm the one who's delusional, when it is your fandroidmates that are saying that the article is referring to all android devices os when the article clearly refers to android tablets only. The thing is. I don't twist facts or take things out of context like you fandroids do. The article clearly stated that the majority of android tablets in the market right now are using the phone os version of android, and not the tablet version. As for the iOS between the iphone and the ipad. They aren't exactly the same. iOS on ipad is optimized for a tablet. That is why, there are apps that are exclusive for each device. Also, don't talk to me, talk to the tech experts who are the ones making the differentiation between a mobile phone os and a tablet os platform. I am not merely making this up like you fandroids do. Read the article carefully, lol. I have not read any article about the ipad and the iphone sharing identical platforms.

I'm not really surprised by this. Android is a popular platform. Android is known as a good copycat alternative for Apple products, so it will eventually sell to the masses just like it did with smartphones. But also, just like in the smartphone arena, the ipad will remain as the bestselling tablet by model.

People want choices. They don't want to be told what to choose. -and- For the love of God. Please stop using the term 'copy cats'. When you try to argue and use the term 'copy cats', you seriously can't expect to be taken seriously. Its like talking to a first grader.

Not surprising... Just like the phones, Android is giving lots of options and price-points. The other part of it, is Apple marketing. They do a great job marketing their products as the "in and trendy" thing. There is a counter-culture to that. Some like me just won't buy apple. Not because their products are crap. I just don't want to support the "device" mentality aka DVD players vs HTPC, and apple telling me what I should do and how. Apple limiting software devs because it "competes" with theirs etc. Apple products are good, they can't do everything but what they do, they do very well. And those that are crying... iPad is just a big iTouch... well you are right. But what are android tablets????? Some are on HoneyComb, but not all.

Does the ANDROID tablet come with 4Gs and WIFIs?? Is it called IPAD? LOL...gotta pull up that youtube video of a customer going to best buy and asking if the phone has wifis. APPLE is all about the marketing - the ipads and iphones are not bad products - above average - in AMERICA marketing usually wins out over quality of product. Tougher to sell ANDROID to the average AMERICAN when there are too many choices out there for ANDROID. And, we all know how AMERICANS get confused when presented with choices....

@networkdood. Exactly. That's why Americans came up with iOS, android, and WinMo :) Another well informed fandroid in the house :)

Americans who wanted something different - I was referring to the average American - "reading is comprehension...'

Read your last sentence. Didn't see "average" there :) You lose :)

"Tougher to sell ANDROID to the average AMERICAN...." Yeah, no average there - seriously, your math and reading comprehension skills are astounding....in a negative way. I do not need to use average every sentence as most would get the point...next time, I will take you into consideration....

"And, we all know how AMERICANS get confused when presented with choices...." Where's the word "average" there? You were generalizing.

It's obvious that the cheaper Android tablets aren't matching Apple in quality. But if you just need a basic web browser and e-reader there are a half a dozen Android tablets that clock in in the $150-200 range that are "good enough." (Trouble is, if you don't know what you're looking for you can get a real piece of garbage.) Once you break the $3-400 range, you're getting close to the iPad in terms of quality, and when you are matching Apple dollar for dollar, you can get a tablet with specs that are as good if net better than Apple.

Turns out this 30% growth is for android tablets shipped, not actual sales figures. I knew there was something odd about this too good to be true sudden incline. http://m.cultofmac.com/acer-to-apple-we-will-bring-the-patent-war-to-you/105758#more-105758 Ok fandroids. Party is over :)

Not quite. You are right. For once. This is about shipments. However, it's not often that actual sales will be significantly less than shipments. But you can believe what you want.
