Android now at 30% of tablet market

According to new statistics from Strategy Analytics, Android is making huge leaps in tablet market share, jumping from just 2.4% of the market last year to 30% of the market today. Of course, the statistics don't make a distinction between Honeycomb tablets and all other Android tablets...

@doubler. Which Lenovo product are you talking about? You're so full of it. Was it before Apple's newton? That's where you are wrong again. Apple will continue to dominate the tablet market. And how can you say that Apple lost the smartphone battle. Apple has just surpassed Nokia as the number one smartphone manufacturer. Sometimes I really wonder if fandroids really live in this planet, lol. Seems like they have their own reality taken from somewhere else, hahahahaha.

@530gemini Android surpassed Nokia in Q4 last year in sales. Apple just did so, as well. Android will take more market share than Apple in the tablet market. Please don't pretend to be blind - Android phones have more market share than the iPhone.

@dionddc. Android is an os, not a company, lol. You keep referring android as if it's a company. Android does have a larger market share than iOS, but it is an effort of 10 different OEM's, whike iOS is only from 1 company. Why do you think Apple makes more profit than any android OEM's? Lol. Trying to be sneaky huh.

@530gemini You don't get it. Profit means nothing compared to market share in business. Your way of arguing is flawed. You see, when customer satisfaction reports get launched - you're all over it with iOS getting higher customer satisfaction than Android phones (even though that takes into account low-end models as well). So realistically, if you want to play that game - you can play it here as well. Here, Android is WINNING market share, and iOS is LOSING market share. You can't switch the rules man. It's not longer about companies - it's about ecosystems. That's why Macs were never able to keep up with PCs, because the Windows ecosystem was much larger.

@dionddc. Profit is everything to businesses. They're all businesses. How can you say that profit is nothing? Is that you're excuse because they're not making big profits like Apple is? Lol. What good is a bigger market share when your quarterly results aren't impressive? Lol. You think the stock market doesn't know that android market share is comprised of multiple companies? Lol. Fandroids are sneaky :)

gemini, microsoft was slinging tablets long before the iphone even came out. they were too ahead of their time and limited by the technology of the time. Popularity and who did it first are 2 seperate things.

@Remix. But what happened to MS' tablets? Nothing. And which MS touchscreen tablet are you referring to, so we can compare it to the ipad's success, lol. Failure to sell and success to sell are two different things as well.

"Are you implying now that Lenovo started this touchscreen tablet trend" "Who dominated the tab market again?" It's sad that you're implying that the most popular device is the best one.

@porkguy. A device sells for a reason. It's popular for a reason. The ipad will not be the bestselling device if it's not the best device in the market.

@530gemini you don't know how foolish you sound basically your saying anything with an apple logo on it is the best and nothing else matters I mean that's your whole argument it's not the best everyone has an opinion that's why you sheep get trashed on Internet all the time because you have the same attitude as your egotistical company that you worship like it's god. Give it up buddy your losing the argument your gettin trashed out here

@heatfan. Of course Apple is the best. That's why it's the number one tech company. Look at each of their stats. Unlike you fandroids, facts are behind us. While you fandroids just twist facts around because the truth is not on your side :)

@530gemini It's not the number one tech company. Samsung beats it all the time. In EVERY industry. Apple is such a small company compared to Samsung.

@dionddc. How many times have we posted both Apple and Samsung earnings and cash on hand on here? Apple is bigger than Samsung. Apple may have a smaller line of business, but their profits are way bigger than Samsung. Also, Apple has a smaller operating cost compared to Samsung who has plants to maintain. You do know that there are costs involved in maintaining plants and factories right?

Same logic can be applied to Android vs iOS ! There must be some reason that Android tablets market share went from 3% to 30% !

530gemini, I told you to your face it's only a matter of time. Android took 30% already from Apple's lead in less than a year. History is repeating itself all over again. First it was iPhone losing to Android, & now Android is doing it again in the tablet market. Remember what I told you. People are CHOOSING, & guess what they are choosing Android. 30% in less than time that it took Android's phones to do it to Apple's iPhone. Truly remarkable! lol

@superfandroidevo. Of course android will grow in the tablet market as well. They're catching up with their copying, lol. But the ipad will still remain number one. Just like the iphone is still the number one smartphone. Just like Apple is still the number one tech company. Always remember that a copycat android products will never win over the original Apple products :)

@heatfan. Lies? Ok. Between these smartphones OEM's. Who's the number one tech company right now? Who made the most profit this last quarter? Who has the highest capital share right now? Who has the most cash on hand right now? Who sold the most smartphones in the last quarter? Which phone has the biggest market share in the last quarter? Who has the most tabs sold right now? IT'S APPLE, THE IPHONE, AND THE IPAD. So who's lying? Me? I don't think so. Again, facts support my comments. Not some twisted lies that you fandroids come up with. And you have the nerve to call me a liar? Oh yeah that's right. You fandroids live in a parallel world where Apple is bankcrupt, hahahahahaha

64. Heatfan316 unregistered

Apple did not invent the tablet, did not invent the first touchscreen phone those are the lies I'm talking about they just made them popular basically they copy other products.Just accept it!

(Edited repost from the article about Eric Schmidt): Apple may be profitable, they may be successful, and they are a large tech company, however, they have a limited user base for a majority of their produced products by number of products (computers and software, since they only have 2 phone models and one tablet device, compared to several laptops, computers, appleTV, and their software), whereas other comapnies have vastly diversified assets and are very sustainable even as technology continues to change and evolve: most cell phone manufacutrers are supporting multiple OSes, and they have products in other fields like consumer electronics and other ventures. Apple is in its own little niche, where the same group of users will buy its products, and a small percentage of the rest of the population will buy their products for whatever reason, but they'll never have market dominance, and, furthermore, are more likely to fail from their lack of any innovative advancements or developments. The iphone hasn't changed much since 2006 and is, in essence, still a glorified feature phone, and is growing more stale by the day, thus driving their users away with the same boring experience. The situation is worsened by these same users who are tired of waiting for a newer model with some cursory updates. Macs are grossly overpriced for the components within (essentially a buyer pays about $500-2000 just for the apple software and proprietary hardware: read up on "hackintoshes") when most users are buying with a lower budget, and what they're buying at least has this-year's components (they just announced they'll be using SandyBridge Intels, when Intel is about to relase the IvyBridge series, and the GPUs they sell are only ATI HD5Ks, even though HD6Ks replaced them) their software isn't nearly as good as competetions' (finalcut pro x, anyone?), and their "tablet", while aesthetically pleasing and decently capable, is a larger glorified ipod touch, and doesn't hold a candle to cheaper, more capable devices, with usable ports and more raw functionality. Apple's biggest asset is market saturation with their ipod/phone/pad and the fact that it's relatively easy to make apps for their mobile devices because they use essentially the same boring OS that's been available since 2006, so large deployments and quick profits are easily achieveable because iDevice owners tend to spend more money on stuff, probably because they're used to spending more money to get less out of it, i.e. paid updates for the apple OS ($29.99 for Lion, but Windows releases free Service Packs, which are what these updates really are), paid updates for last year's technology (all apple products) with a prettier shell and maybe a new piece of hardware (front facing camera for iphone4, thunderbolt & mini-DisplayPort on the computers, oh boy!) to go with it, whereas PC users can go buy a similar upgrade, pop it in their existing system, and they're good to go

@box. Too long. Here's my short and simple reply to you. APPLE KICKED EVERYONE'S ASS IN THE 2ND QTR :)

96. fencesitter unregistered

not really. Sure they have a nice profit, but they didn't kick anyone's ass. Profit is just profit. Not market share. Apple's market share didn't budge much. I suggest you read Box's post. It states the reasons why Apple is successful in their own niche market but fails in the big picture.

107. 530gemini

Posts: 2198; Member since: Sep 09, 2010

@fencesitter. Don't be naive. You honestly don't mean to say that the whole android market share is owned by one company do you? Android's market share is comprised of multiple companies. If you break them down individually by company, Apple would have the bigger market share.

@heatfan. No one is saying that Apple invented the tablet or touchscreen phone. Did I say that they did? No. Did anyone here say that they did? No. Then why are you saying such a thing? Because you're crazy? Yes, lol.

and when u think of it, that 30% is made up of what iTards call "failures" because they didnt sell as much as the ipad. Man I would hate to see what happens to market share when one of those honeycomb tablets arent "failures" anymore. Will it be samsung or Asus.. lol

@remix. Well you know what? The ipad is still the market leader, and you're already acting like android owns 90% of the market. Typical fandroid. Rejoicing over miniature success :)

3. Stuntman unregistered

30% so soon? I didn't expect they would reach that number until late this year or next year.
