Android Silver program may be in trouble before it starts

We've heard quite a number of rumors about the planned Android Silver program, which has been described as Google's way to get more "pure" Android devices into carrier stores with support directly from Google and without manufacturer custom software. You can't update physics. All the updates in the world won't fix the hunger of the screen or processor. You might be able to increase idle time but screen time can only be improved so much.

well dont forget all the android lion additions like battery saver built in it will use a 20nm chip if not the new 14nm chip less heat and 25 to 36% power save. and a few other things to save power.

I find this to be great news as a Nexus owner. Never had a clear idea of what Silver was even going to be. It sounded like a blend between Nexus and GPE phones, so I saw no reason why they'd continue the Nexus line after 2015. I personally prefer the price of Nexus devices over the GPE phones.

You see, Silver program would make it possible to buy these non bloated phones directly from your carrier with either 2 years contract or interest free financing and still have google updates coming directly to you. That's the difference, and that is why carriers don't like that idea, and most likely will not go for it.

If you check the Android One web page on Google's site, it's pretty clear that it's One, not Silver, Google's project to promote the stock version of Android among users and manufacturers.
