Android 5.0 concept video has some good ideas

0. phoneArena posted on 19 Sep 2013, 14:07

There haven't been a huge amount of Android concept videos, especially considering how many iOS concept videos we see (although the number is certainly higher than the number of Windows Phone concept videos around). But, designer Craig Tuttle has decided to put together a concept video with a couple very good ideas for changes that we may see in Android 5.0...

there should be an option to choose between white and black themes.

I agree, and there should be an option to make it automatically switch to the black theme at night.
Also the battery life of OLED phones would increase as well.

Yes, one of my friends had a samsung with an AMOLED display and there was some setting(he showed it in the browser, don't know about the whole) that converted all white on the page to black-sort of colour inversion. The battery life went up significantly.

That multi-tasking UI looks really clean, also they need to integrate mms and sms into hangouts, make it the base messaging app.

Amen to the both of you. Unified messaging app please that goes through data and is way faster and reliable than cell service (MMS never gets through on Android my exp has been horrible).

I'm not sure if I like it. I don't use Hangouts because no one else I know does either. I'd rather just have SMS. If they update the Hangouts app so I can still get the experience I want then fine but if not it will be a problem.

I love Google Now, but I do not want those cards in my notifications area.

I love this. I do have to agree with imkyle though. I don't want any cards in my notifications. Otherwise this looks fantastic.

Looks great, hope KitKat is similar to this, I also hope there is the ability to hide/show the on screen keys. I thought if it was key lime pie they would add a pie gesture ui, not so sure anymore but I hope they implement that the most!

About damn time stock Android received a facelift, change the tired 2011 look already. Must be one of the few that thinks it's time for a complete overhaul, this concept is a fresh start. I viewed a video comparing Ubuntu to stock android on pocketnow, and it really shows how bland and stale it looks now.

Android has for the most part always been more function than fashion, wouldn't surprise me at all to see a bunch of this being officially released soon. Increasing the scope of Google Now makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider how much resources Google sunk into it to get it where it is now. I remember a long time ago when Eric said they saw the personal assistant approach like how Star Trek's computer was, you just spoke to your device to get the answers you needed. Google Now is achieving that very well, all you have to do is look at the Moto X to see it.

"The only other change is the move to more white colors in the system, although once again that is unlikely because Google wants to get better battery life on AMOLED displays. "

not necessarily. Google has switched to a white background with no option for a dark theme in a lot of their apps like popular app YouTube.
