Android 4.4 KitKat: review of all the new features

The ever-funny Google went crazy with the naming of the new incremental Android 4.4 update. The next letter of the alphabet after the "J" in 4.3 Jelly Bean is "K", so Key Lime Pie was long bandied about for an Android 4.4 nickname, but alas. The folks at Mountain View went and partnered with an actual confectionery producer, and a giant one like Nestlé at that, to name the latest version of Android after one of their most famous deserts, and that's how Android 4.4 KitKat was born...

I wouldn't call it major. It still operates and looks mostly the same. It definitely is the biggest 0.1 update I've ever seen come to Android, though not enough to justify a full bump to 5.0.

Crap... Well, the Nexus5 is not coming to Verizon. So now I get to play the waiting game to see when the provider's top phones will get the update to 4.4 before I buy a new phone, if it doesn't happen by December I'm jumping ship to a new provider. I am not happy at all with Verizon at all right now.

HTC already said they'll push out the update to the unlocked One within 30 days, the carrier branded Ones within 90 days, and the One mini and Max within 90 days.

The 4th function "OK Google" has been available on many android devices for quite some time now so..... From my knowledge that isn't suppose to be there the rest looks good

The fact that they can change the home launcher from the setting option indicates that the Google Experience Launcher will go public in the Google Playstore.

Who knows maybe Nestle paid a hefty price for this. Afterall it's also serving as advertisement for KitKat and GOOG is an "advertising revenue" company. So some "secret deal"?

For those that are into photo editing, I understand there is a really great photo shop editor built into this upgrade. Videos of the editor are actually pretty detailed. John B.

I like how Google is attempting to speed up older android devices with this update. Compared to Apple who purposefully slows down older IOS devices so you will have to buy the one. I just hope manufacturers push the update to some of their older flagship phones.

Dont forget the iPhone compared to a Nokia 1520: the best, the smallest phone to hold with one hand and stash in your slip (good vibrations) because the 1520 has the best screen, the best camera and video, the best speakers and is the best game phone and the best phone to take on the train (Phone Arena dixit).

As said in the other thread: Do it like this: http ://myandroidanme.blogspot.d e/2014/02/android-44-kitkat-roms-and-flash.html Your flash problem will be gone. You will have to kill the spaces after http and :// and between blogspot.d e in the above URL. Can't post normal urls since I'm new....
