See. This is how Apple marketing works. It perceives a view that with all these estimates, consumers should jump on board in purchasing an iPhone. Now if you take it at a different perspective: With Android activating 700,000 devices a day, this should put them ahead in just a little over a month. That sounds just as impressive, if not more. Yes? John B.

Okay...Analysts aren't Apple and they aren't Apple's marketing team. How about this...a while ago an analyst said Google's Android platform is undesirable because it's a broken system...does that mean that's Google's Marketing? We really need to start separating the two. Also, Android isn't hardware. Android is software. If you are going to compare hardware, Google can't be included. You have to compare it to HTC, Motorola, or Samsung...and even more specifically one model of the phone. I understand what you're saying, but you can't really blame this on Apple. These are f**ktard analyst who study the market and give their opinion.

i see both your PoV 1) analysts are idiots and never to be trusted.. i ignore almost anything they say as a general rule 2) this IS a positive spin for apple.. and it keeps them in the news.. so in a way it is free positive advertisement. For those that live their life wanting other's acceptance, this is probably some sort of "i must buy an iphone" advertisement to them. for those of us that know better, its toilet paper. So apple is selling a million iphones every 3 days. Impressive. thats 333,000 iphones a day at a huge mark up. Apple better have one hell of a christmas party for their designers and engineers who actually keep this money train rolling. Of course, if you want to go"fanboy" android DOES sell 700,000 a day, which means in 3 days they are making 2.1 million phones.. more than double apple's sales... and still growing by leaps n bounds. Either way, its good news for some one.

but, that is comparing the entirety of android os to the iphones.. if u break it down into manufacturer vs apple, it is a bit different.. im not trying to say one is better than the other, but there are many ways to look at who is winning...

Well then using your reasoning, the news of 700,000 activations a day is marketing for consumers to jump on board to Android. I'm a little confused with the point you're trying to make. Are you mad that the stats are reported per quarter and per year instead of per day? This is typically the way sales are reported.

----" Well then using your reasoning, the news of 700,000 activations a day is marketing for consumers to jump on board to Android. I'm a little confused with the point you're trying to make."---- Well E.N, the point is more deeply imbedded in my comment and you have successfully summed up my logic with your own. All we hear about is Apple. Sheeple marketing is a very old practice and Apple is currently enjoying the benefits of this type of marketing. From central placed ads to trend hype, we should both agree that it is this form of marketing that keeps Apple in the spotlight. When I listen to the radio or watch TV, I always hear commercials on how we can stream the stations on our iphones, ipads or ipod touches with their new apps. Most times, they don't mention every platformed device in general. Does this mean we can't stream these stations unless we own an Apple product? Of course not. We certainly can. However, many consumers still feel that they cannot. It is this form of marketing that placates Apple. The media loves Apple and it is the primary reason for helping keep Apple going. Favoritism from media plays very well into hype but they are limiting themselves. If the media is focused in more attention by promoting themselves through apps, don't you agree that they should be grabbing a larger percentage of users as well? ----" Are you mad that the stats are reported per quarter and per year instead of per day?"---- Not at all E.N. The difference in reality, is negligible. However, It is the consistant emphasis placed on Apple from "Analysts" and other independant studies that promark the need for this product by using these figures more than other product's figures. Many of the young generation have been motivated to purchase an Apple product purely on the premise that they believe that this is "The phone to get because everyone is getting it". However, the more silent figures of Android sales over Apple prove that not everyone is getting it. I hope this clarifies my point. John B.

You have to keep in mind that iPhone users are more prone to buy and download applications, so its probably strategic to advertise based on the iPhone where large profits is more likely. What you said about analysts make sense, but I just think that there are studies from analysts everywhere and for everything, including android.

Well, given that the selling price for iPhone 4 and 4s are at a premium, (and prohibitive for some), as opposed to selling for chump change or free for an Android or Nokia device, I'd say that Apple/iPhone is doing quite well.

Don't forget iPhone 3GS's sell for chump change too and they've seen good numbers over the last year.

12. JeffdaBeat unregistered

Yeah...chump change that was marked down a few months ago...

11. ZEUS.the.thunder.god unregistered

so you mean you will buy even shi* if someone is selling it at a premium price ?

13. chadrick0814 unregistered

Since they make more money per phone than any other manufacturer, I guess apple is doing well indeed. The chumps who are paying premium prices for a cheap phone....not so much. Those of us in the 4g world sympathisize.

the 3gs has been selling at $50 or less for a year or more now.. and its now FREE even through ATT. you can find the i4 free if you look in the right places at the right time. Last year's iphone sales were split at nearly dead even between the $200 i4 and the $50 3gs Android phones sell for up to $300 on contract. Off contract they can actually reach close to 1000 or so. 8 or 9 of the top 10 selling android phones last year were concidered "premium" or were at one point the "premium" sets sold.. all selling for 100-300 on contract. So your theory is trash. Android sells more often and at the same or higher price. HALF OF ALL APPLE SALES in 2011 were FREE OR NEAR FREE. apple fanatics just need to get over this "premium" argument because it hasnt held water for quite a while. Its nearly as bad as that stupid "1 iphone vs the world" arguement, when we all know there are multiple variations and versions of iphones sold at any given time.

Where in the world do you get your information? I've never read anywhere that half of all sales of iPhones in 2011 were free or near free anywhere. You just pulled that out of your ass just now. Apple is making a sh*t ton on iPhones right now. They themselves stated that iPhone sales are their #1 driving force. And this is straight from Apple, one of the richest companies in the world. Reading through sources in the internet will tell you that the 3GS is and was doing well, but that doesn't mean that sales were anywhere near the iPhone 4 or now iPhone 4S. Android sales can be up to $300, but there are so many cheap options! And its easier to find deals on the Android devices than it is on iPhones (extremely easy!!, I can't emphasize this enough). The "1 iPhone vs the world" argument is no longer valid, but "very few vs the world" is on point. And why are we talking android again? The article is about Apple and iPhone. How about stats from Motorola and the Bionic/Razr. Let's not bloat the results and make it seem like Android manufacturers are in complete harmony. People ignore that fact that companies like Motorola, HTC, and Samsung are competing with each other for sales just as much as they're competing with Apple. 700,000 activations a day is pretty damn good news for Android manufactures generally, since Apple is public enemy #1. But unless you have a large enough chunk of the 700,000, it doesn't really matter.

2 things 1) the 3gs sales have been well documented on the boards and other places. keep up or research. :) 2) just because a phone is free from a carrier doesnt mean its free from apple. They are still getting paid when you get a free 3gs from ATT, as ATT still has to pay apple the full retail per phone. 3) yea, of course there are more free android options. thats what happens when you have COMPETITION. You iphone weirdos seem to hate the fact that you can find android phones on the cheap. But guess what.. and again, this point has been brought up 300000 times now... the top selling android phones are almost ALL "high end" sets. There is a higher % of high end android sets sold (in android only world) then latest generation apple phones sold (in apple only world).

"the top selling android phones are almost ALL "high end" sets."..... is simple.. when they are released ....they are released as high end device.. but 3 months later are medium to low end.. can you say T-Bolt.. love to dispute when there not in Androids favor..
