Analyst: Next Apple iPhone can retain one handed operation with its 4.08 inch screen

0. phoneArena posted on 06 Jun 2012, 20:16

According to an analyst, even if Apple increases the size of the screen on the next Apple iPhone to 4.08 inches as he predicts, by using a 16:9 aspect ratio, the device will still be able to be operational using just one hand as it is now with the current 3.5 inch screen...

They won't call it 4.08". It's gonna be a 4.1" display.

Pretty soon Apple will put a patent on screen size and being able to use the phone with one hand.....

This is ridiculous. I remember when Apple was justifying the 3.5" screen saying any bigger would be too big to handle one handed. Now they're pretending it's ok as long as it's an increase in height...no it's ok because they say it's ok. Quit acting like you invent everything and stop trying to sue HTC and others into oblivion because they're creating a superior product. Either step it up or get out of the way.

Sithman have you noticed the Fandroid trolls are turning up the heat? They're getting nervous because WWDC is around the corner.

As usual they'll hate everything Apple announces while they sit in front of the screen refreshing every 30 seconds on the live play by play.

Actually, iPhone can't be operated with one hand only. Try for example pinch-to-zoom while using only one hand. Some people do it, but are risking to drop that fragile phone. Even Steve Jobs himself used two hands to operate the phone at his famous presentations:

The one hand story is just an excuse for not having a bigger screen.

This was clearly paid by Apple. If Steve Jobs said the perfect size was 3.5 how can 4.08 be perfect as well? I have a Galaxy Note and I have no problem with one handed operation (granted I have big hands), one handed operation depends mostly on the size of your hand and means little. No one size unit can be the perfect size for everyone since everyones hand size varies. The main size factor is display, smaller screens are cheaper to produce. If apple made a retina display on par with the general size of android OEMs trend of 4.5 it would cost alot more cutting into Apple's profits or raising the price of the device too much that people might not be willing to spend. The next time Apple increases the size of it's display will be when retina displays 4.5 are cheaper to produce bottom line.

I like the balance of phones like the EVO and Thunderbolt, they were both very wide yet not super tall.

one handed use will be no longer easier on iphone 5 coz if they are keeping the width the same and increasing the height it would be impossible to reach the top left corner where the back button is placed. thats why i love the soft keys on android devices

I agree. I really hate the placement of the back key on the top left corner on iPhones because its not intuituitive at all. Have to really stretch my thumb beyond comfort level and I have big hands. With Android no such problem even on mega screen sizes.

A 3.5-inch screen used to be ideal size for the human hand. Now it's 4.08-inches. I guess they have evolved bigger hands. This is a sure sign of fanboyism- a moving goal post. This one hand operation requirement is overrated. Even pinch-to-zoom requires two hands. One to hold the phone and one to pinch. This is all just spin to justify the lack of options to have a smaller or bigger screen depending on personal preference. Just like the absence of options for user expandable storage, removable battery, to have adobe flash or not, widgets, live wallpaper, etc. Iphone is like the Toyota Camry-the best selling car in the US for the last ten years. Is it the best car in the world? Not necessarily...

I thought Steve jobs said that 3.5 inch is the ideal size just a few years ago? LOL Now its going to be 3.9/4.0/4.08 inch whatever I don't care. Why Apple? Has the human hand suddenly evolved within 5 years with a size increase of 26%?

I am just waiting to see Apple launch a 7.0+ inch tablet. Didn't Steve Jobs say that all the competing 7in tablets would fail during the launch of the iPad because its too small? Come on Apple. Launch a 7+in tablet and eat your own words.

Just proves that all Apple's marketing talk are plain brain-washing bulls**t.

ok enough you 2 idiots... 1st Jobs is dead.. 2nd the hand has not evolutionized.. but technology has.. as a successful company it doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that making it bigger is the way to go.. no backpedal there. they just want to be successful at selling an appealing product.. and times changes as well as technology,.. so don't act dumb.. and please no dumb questions anymore..

love peering how apple struggling in order to remain "retina term" and apps compatibility. World has been chasing apple since they released first iphone. Now, it's getting utterly opposite.
