Amazon seems to be the only company that gets it. If Apple products are categorized as luxury products, then like products need to cost less...otherwise people are just going to save up for an iPad instead. Amazon has come out with a much cheaper alternative that has gotten pretty good reviews. They've opened themselves up to a bring new market.

They are selling this at a loss, however. I know that's not something every company can do. But they've found a way to get money back to them to make up for it. Sony takes a loss for every PS3 they sell, but they make up the money as well in other places. If you want to compete with Apple, sell it cheaper and sell something with quality. Yes, you will have to take an initial loss, but think of creative ways to get that money back. Maybe it's through apps. Maybe having a store front users can't avoid. But spouting off specs that my mom doesn't understand isn't going to help.

People buy Apple devices because they are branded and priced as luxury items. So it conveys status when you have them, even if you actually could do the functionality with something that costs far less. It goes perfectly with the world we live in today. The image and appearance of "look what I have and can supposedly afford" trumps functionality and practicality for $$ sake. The Kindle Fire is a great device and I truly hope that it starts a trend where good quality devices at fair price points start to become the norm in place of overpriced, overhyped, and generally boring icycle devices.

I wasn't really speaking against the usability of an Apple Product. I have quite a few. I was speaking more of the money end of selling products and why other tablets are failing and the Kindle line isn't.

And I'm sorry dude, I didn't buy my Apple products for status. I could give a f**kless about what people think about the gadgets I own. I bought what works for me. I'm a big nerd and my iMac works for me. It will never leave my house for people to see it. Same with my iPad. Not everything is for status.

It is nice of them but at the same time I cant help but feel the tablet is still undercooked at this price, given that discounting of similar tablets is pretty easy to find and more full featured.

RAM and storage are two entirely different things.

Unless this device functions very differently from what i'm familiar with.

My Wife has been stalking me for a Kindle for quite some time. This year, I purchased the Kindle fire for her and she loves it. I have to admit to liking it myself. I desire a larger screen tablet or I would have gotten a Kindle Fire for myself.

As JeffdaBeat commented, Amazon nailed this one.

I bought one for my niece and nephew to share...A friend that is totally tied into Apple bought his mom one...and my other niece bought one for herself...yep, this Kindle Fire is spreading like wildfire!
