All aboard the notch train! Apple mandates that all new apps support the iPhone X display

If anyone needed further proof that Apple is all aboard the notch train, its latest memo to developers should suffice. As if to corroborate the supply chain findings of its most reputable analyst, Apple is now demanding that all new apps submitted from April onwards, should natively support the screen cutout of the iPhone X, and it says so explicitly in an email distributed to developers.

In other words, the notch is here to stay, and this jibes with KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo numeorus memos to clients that Apple will issue three iPhones this year, and all of them will sport the TrueDepth camera kit for Face ID, Animoji, and other purposes - even the "affordable" iPhone 9 with LCD display that is expected to sell in the tens of millions this year.

The Notch and the Horns. While that may sound like the name of an English pub, the horns on the two sides of the notch can actually serve a purpose with their active screen area, believe it or not, and we don't mean simply showing the battery icon or network status. Since the depth camera and accompanying sensors can't be shoved under the display glass, Apple simply cut a piece of the iPhone X screen to fit the whole shebang in, forcing app developers into a scramble to overhaul their apps, and YouTube to try and fit videos around it. 

Notch you worry, though, as devs took the iPhone X design as a challenge, and started getting crafty designing for the new notch-and-horns realities, and all who haven't done this yet, will be mandated to do so, as per Apple's new app design guidelines below:
