if you want to buy it off the shelves without contract it costs around us$800.... too expensive, now that htc hero's been stupendously improved with the new rom upgrade, i take hero any day over the pre.... dont get me wrong pre "was" the talk of the world with its webOS, but htc has caught up big time....

I don't see what the big fuss over the HTC hero is. I've used it and I'm not that impressed. I think the biggest gripe I have with all "touch only" android handsets is that a 3.2 inch screen is too small to text or type on for me, even landscape mode. Apple hit it on the head with the 3.5 inch screen and the keypad has perfect spacing in landscape mode, I don't even own the phone and had no problem using it. Texting on a 3.2 inch screen though, like I had with the galaxy, the hero, and trying it out on the g1, is a big pain, even in landscape. I'd choose the pre over the hero because the Web OS does work pretty well, and it has the advantage of a keypad that, albeit it a bit cramped (I'm used to the e71's keypad and love it) is still more comfortable than a crappy 3.2 inch virtual one.
