Adobe says Apple is part of the reason it has killed mobile Flash

Adobe Product Manager Mike Chambers posted on his own personal blog that because of Apple's refusal to let Flash come anywhere near iOS, the mobile version of Flash wouldl never reach the popularity of the version found on desktop computers which was one of the reasons why Adobe killed it off...

At the same time they are banning and warning people for starting said flame wars, when PA themselves are giving them the fire to do it.

"Chambers adds that Flash is superior to HTML5 when it comes to advanced video content..." What is this suppose to mean? I hope they progress with HTML5 so that in every way it is superior to Flash... since they've already decided to put an end to Flash. Give us something better Adobe.

Its supposed to be but who knows how long until they get a working product on the market that fulfills our expectations, if they stopped development after releasing the HTML5 alternative, it wouldn't be an issue.

So basicly we lose a "more advanced online video experience" because Apple won't get on board??!!! Screw Apple! Someone needs to tell them they don't call the shots anymore.

It is ridiculos to blame Apple why should Apple put something on their phones that they dont think works right i mean i guess some people belive adobe Flash should have been mandatory on all smartphones. It really is no big deal has html5 will work fine for both IOS and Android!

lol. what Apple want, Apple get. Let's all get over it and move on [still regret buying an iPhone, yet I kinda love it. All my iFans, lets face it, the best iPhone is the jail-broken one] (Just my opinion. Thats all)

Like I said before...while its here I'll use Flash and am glad I have that choice. Until HTML5 becomes the standard, I welcome and enjoy Flash. So again, thank you Adobe for helping to give some of us a choice on our phones. Last time I checked...choice isnt a bad thing. To some of us anyway....

Yes of course, why blame Apple? Well, because: 1. first, there was Internet, substantially using Macormedia/Adobe technology called Flash 2. Then, iPhone arrived, kissing users egoes', selling itself as an ultimate Internet browsnig experience. Execept it wasn't ultimate Interenet browsing experience, becuse it won't supprt Flash. 3. Finally, Internet needed to be adapted to iPhone, because we are using the Internet to browse iPhone, not using iPhone to browse the Internet. And now, it is self-fulfilling prophecy of Steve Jobs - iPhone is the best Internet experience, becuse Internet has become an app for iPhone. This will have equal consequence on desktops - it's illusion to think mobile Internet will be separated from desktop Internet, because mobile Internet users quickly became primary Internet users. Yes, it's Appel's fault - and we could indefinitely call for technical reasons. HTML5 is a new, unexplored and unstable platform (for instance, some world-famous portals that shifted from Flash to HTML5 have great compatibility problems on EVERY browser available). The fact that HTML5 is implemented as a official standard doesn't mean it's working great on every device - the browser's still have to be superbly compatibile with HTML5 to provide this experience - so all in all this is immature technology "that is the future", and we will ditch something incredibly advanced already, which has been developed for more than a decade - but all in favour of Apple's vision of the Internet Experience, like iPhones and iPads are more important than Internet itself. The world is now investing in expensive and problematic shift with no visible advancement in experience to that what goes in favor of Apple, and they want to do it because they know they will lose business if they aren't compatible with Apple. And that counts for Adobe, also.

inspite of android which support flash being no. 1 right now, adobe still kills flash because of apple! that's awesome.

People are taking Adobe's mention of Apple out of context. I'm pretty sure they meant that it is not because of Apple, but rather it is because of the risen marketshare of Apple. Rim, Microsoft or anyone would've shifted Adobe's outlook in the same given circumstance. It has to do with economy of scale. One format for browsing the web only benefits everyone. HTML5 was recognized years ago as being the front runner in replacing Flash. Flash was never meant for a mobile. However, it gave users the experience needed for utilizing most out of the experience. I contend that the entire coalition in support for HTML5 was correct(Opera Software was the initiater). Steve used the power, money and success of Apple to rally as the spokesperson. Keep in mind, he rallied years ago with no success. I do believe that HTML5 would have eventually emerged victorious with or without Apple. It is the perfect fit for mobility and companies were starting to realize this. Steve only inherits the credit due to the timing of his resistance of flash coupled to the notoriety of his company. So, to say HTML5 was just because of Apple, negates the actual equations in its rise and totally dismisses the others that are responsible for the fruition of the technology. John B.

Well thats easy , you cannot maintain a program to run on one single platform . Steve jobs was right after all . Flash was the only thing android had better. I will continue using wp7 and ios...these are the two best platforms right now and wp7 is getting better by time , dont judge before you actually use one

All this makes me wonder about sites like Kongregate. Will we still have that available in another format or will flash ending take that along with it? Coming from a game design major, a lot of us were encouraged to start with flash game or mobile games. Is this going to completely change how we create time killer games?

idk why there's an endless fight between apple fans and phandroids.. the iPhone and Android phones are obviously designed for two very different kinds of people. Most people i know who like iPhones don't really care how technology works. they want it to work now. they want it to work right, and they want it to always work. no problems no obsiticals. (i know that's spelled wrong lol sorry ie is fail for not having auto spell check haha). android users, (real android users at least) tend to be tinkerers. they want to know how it works and why and in which case x and y will happen. they want custom roms they want custom everything and a lot of them want to do it themselves. i look at it this way. iPhone - buys boxed computer. pays for tech support. doesn't know what a Northbridge or a Southbridge are... what's a gpu? that's ok it's fast. Android - builds own computer. wishes they could solder the motherboard themselves (sometimes lol) does own tech work, writes scripts for the sake of it and brags about things like CPU, Clock, RAM, GPU, etc. both people can be very effective in life and whatever makes them happy. the world needs more than one type of person xD don't get me wrong. i'm down for Android all the way. :) once i got over the initial fear of rooting my phone ive been addicted ever since. :)
