So far in the land of Android rule of the thumb is that a good phone is a big phone. If you want the latest processor, display technology, camera and so on, you inevitably had to get a phone…

Well, maybe it would help us if Acer mentioned some 'proud' hardware specifications under the hood. Not just the 3.5 inch...

I'd pay a 1000$ if it has a 720p screen at least. 1080p would be crazy (630 ppi!!!!) . and snap 400 with at least 1 gig of ram and 16 gig internal.

all specs are realistic except for the resolution, 960*640 would be enough, and would look really nice

Even through personally I prefer phones with at least 4.5" screens, I hope Acer deliver on their promise for the many people out there who prefer smaller phones.
I hope this maked Samsung and HTC offer their flagship in a small size as well, instead of the Mini being mid range.

It might just be me but 3.5 is too small to handle. It should have been at least a 4 inch screen! But again, that's just maybe me! :)

Most of the girls I've seen are sporting Galaxy Notes. Size does matter.

I believe this will appeal only to those who prefer one handed operation, and those who have decent eyesight (i.e. younger people). personally, the 3.2 eris I had four years ago seems ridiculously small compared to my 4.3 inch rezound. and in about a month, I'm moving up to a five inch display. primarily due to my failing eyesight. however, they should have mentioned the specs of this phone. especially at that size.

I disagree. I have the rezound and also had the Eris (and an incredible 2 in between). I prefer the small size of the Eris. If I could have top specs in a small screen I would choose that over large any day.

Some notes on what I desire from a small phone though. I want to treat my phone as a hub to my technology. I want very strong hotspot capabilities. I want it to be my internet (my rezound currently is. But hotspot performance is inconsistent). I want to be able to dock it and function as a desktop (think ubuntu for android and the moto atrix laptop dock). The HTC tube concept and padfone both really intrigued me but to me the execution wasn't there.

Imagine getting to work, clicking your phone into a dock and up pops your computer. Location data tells your phone you are at work and connects you to your chrome os/android desktop. After work you head home. Hop in the car, Bluetooth tells you its time for tunes so automatically turns on WiFi (or opengarden) to fire up Play Music on your android stereo. Or maybe you hop on the bus and pull out your tablet and Bluetooth activates your WiFi in a flash. You get home and dock to your monitor there. Location tells you youre home so fires up a different home screen for personal use. And knows once you are home to fire up your hotspot to activate your chromekey on your tv.

I have been dreaming of this for years. And every time I imagine it, its a small phone.

As a side note I live in a very rural area where I cannot get wired internet. So I have always and for the immediate future I will continue to hotspot my internet. Grandfathered verizon unlimited, I use 200+ gigs per month. And yes I do pay for the hotspot. This is why the hotspot capabilities are so important to me.

A 3.5 inch screen obviously isn't for everyone. Just as a monstrous 6+ inch screen isn't for everyone. It's just nice to see a manufacturer buck the trend of making everything bigger. Now, we'll have to wait and see what kind of specs this has, but if it hits the higher end of mid-range, I'll tip my hat to Acer.

Finally... I have to replace my Xperia Mini, but unfortunately the Mini is the last one of his breed (small but powerful). The other attempts like GS3 Mini were not really small, and the HTC M4 and GS4 Mini will non be so small as well. So, if Acer builds a 3,5'' phone with: good screen quality and resolution, good chipset, decent amount of ram and good camera, well, I'm sold. It's unbelievable that people who want small phones are forced to accept entry level hardware.

"A phone which is proud to be small"
Sounds like the Xperia Mini devices to me :)

And that is why acer will not be successful in the mobile phone business .

For me it's one of the best notices in months. I hate big phones and I'm not a teenager.
