0. phoneArena posted on 10 Jun 2013, 01:22

You might remember the first 8 inch Windows 8 tablet, the Acer Iconia W3; the slate is now available for pre-orders from both Staples and Amazon. Both retailers are offering the 32GB version of the slate for $379.99 while Amazon also has the 64GB model for $429.99. Staples says that if you pre-order the device by June 14th, it will ship between June 15th and June 17th, arriving no earlier than June 16th...

surely $429 is a bit steep for a 8.1 inch tablet. although I guess when you think about it people can't help but compare it to the fact you can get Windows 8 laptops for that price

I guess $379 puts it in competition with ipad mini in a sense, but it's Windows 8 Pro platform + lack of app base will hinder people in seeing that comparison.

Until microsoft gets in act in order and starts pushing its market/RT, people are never really gonna compare W8 tablets with the iPad imo (assuming that's what they're gearing for..)

I def understand your opinion but the way I feel is people need to stop comparing an entertainment tab to a "business" tablet. I understand ipad supposedly has the tablet market but seriously I see more kids with ipads playing games more than anything....thats all it is

somehow right but i do not see this as a true "business" tablet....not yet with the current W8 installed...
..where is 3G...
...Z2760....not yet BayTrails
...W8 - our old "first runner" into tablet world that is not yet as good as we all W8,1 hope to be!
Note8, that lacks MS Office, is far more business ready then this...I mean, i believe in W8 tablets, but not yet, next year maybe....

iPad mini goes for $399 unsubsidized here, so this Acer is still better since u get a full desktop OS

you are correct to say a Windows 8 Tablet does not have many touch screen only Apps HOWEVER it also has a DESKTOP which has hundreds of thousands of Windows business, Educational, Entertainment and speciallty industry programs
That why windows 8 tablets will gain Tablet market share. they are PC's that are shaped like a Tablet

Windows needs quick penetration in the tab market and need to migrate new users to the OS. The best way to do that is to go the Nokia Lumia 520 way. Bring out a 7-8 inch Windows tab in the $150 to $200 range. I am sure Nokia can do that.

this tablet is the start of the Windows 8 Mini PC Tablets but at 430 dollars for the 64gb model; is a price that wont allow many of these tablets to sell well
