AT&T's LTE service to debut in just 5 cities this summer

0. phoneArena posted on 25 May 2011, 11:52

In the race to saturate the country with 4G LTE service, Verizon has had a huge jump on AT&T; the latter's debut of LTE service in just 5 cities pales behind Big Red's launch of its 4G pipeline in 38 locations last December...

And this is what you get with 'competition'? Imagine what kind of roll-out would be occurring if T-Mo was part of AT&T....

Let's see, VZW opened up their LTE network in 38 Major cities and almost as many major airports and all AT&T could manage was 5. Wow, way to show your customer base how dedicated you are to upgrading your network. Wonder how they will do when the T-Mo acquisition falls flat?

stopgap network 3.5g network?

if i remeber correctly, didnt Tmobile win the last over all speed comparison by pcmagazine?? Get over the tech envy and get with real world. LTE is great and will be the future, but as of right now, HSPA+ (tmos 42mb/s) is way faster than either ATT's or VZWs LTE networks (30mb/s)

Thank you for bringing this up, however i wish the someone would crack down on this shit of "our 4g network is better than yours" no american wireless cellular company really has it. Yest LTE is true 4g tech vs hpsa which is an extention of 3g however the US is still a few years off from true 4G. A great article was written last year about this... (http://www.intomobile.com/2010/03/24/4g-in-americ a-lies-lies-and-more-damn-lies/)

Are you referring to the PC Magazine article, that as an aggregate, the Verizon network IS Slower (averaging their 3G and 4G speeds)? You are correct. However, you should also note, that when they did compare real world LTE vs HSPA+ vs WiMax, LTE handily won. Theoretical speeds only give fodder to spec sheet brag rights.

SMH. Articles like these show how biased you guys are against anything not att/apple.

I'd even go out on a limb and guess that the majority of PA's employees have personal att iphones.

FYI: if verizon reported their "customer base" numbers the same way att did, I believe I read verizon would still be number 1.

I mean, this is one of the biggest reasons why I don't want this merger to go through. AT&T is lazy right now...at number 2. They skip on customer service, on cellular service, and now they are taking their sweet time updating their network. It's always going to be this way because it feels like the same old hats that ran AT&T Company back in the day is still there...or at least their spirit is still there.

If I were the CEO of AT&T Mobility, I'd be pushing as hard as possible to combat Verizon in all three categories, but I guess it has to hit them in their pocket book in order for them to believe this crap doesn't ride. If last quarter AT&T only had a net ad of 60,000 customers while Sprint had 350,000 or so...then I can't wait for this quarter...especially with no new iPhone (if that's true).

So in Feb 09 (http://gizmodo.com/5155882/verizon-lte-wireless-c locking-60mbps-in-us-tests-confirmed-to-launch-in- 2010) when Vzw was testing at 60Mbs we all assummed it stay that way. Here's another story from VZW themselves (http://news.vzw.com/news/2010/03/pr2010-03-02b.ht ml) regarding small scale tests. These new stories are so stupid pitting AT&T small scale tests to a real world working (i use working lightly) Vzw LTE network. Please this quote "recent speed tests show that AT&T's LTE service is faster than Verizon's LTE offering. However, that test was done by AT&T technicians so this type of analysis will require a more non biased observer." Stop posting this crap then if its not a "real world" test.
