AT&T to support HSUPA on all handsets within 1-2 months?

0. phoneArena posted on 24 Feb 2011, 07:25

The battle over who has the fastest 4G network with most coverage is far from over, but recent outrage over slow upload speeds on AT&T might have given other carriers the edge. After users rushed in reports about upload speeds...

no, this is specifically for the upload radio, not download. HSDPA/HSPA+ is down HSUPA is up.

I dont have At&t but if this is true how can they advertise their network as 4G when it doesnt deliver suitable upload speeds and subpar download speeds. I am not trying to start a war but I did a speed test this morning. 3 tests and avearge speeds were between 5-6 Mbs dwn and 1.5-2 Mbs up in the suburbs of Md/Dc area. Thank you for Sprint 4G :-)

i get that or higher on my vibrant 3g dude. wimax may technically be a "4g" network, but its over populated and under delivers like crazy. especially for the 10 dollar "4g" charge.. and soon to be 10 dollar "smartphone" charge they are tacking on.

My wifes G2 kicks around 7-11 most days in hspa+ and we dont have any surcharges for that. :)

next time you test it, go to settings, about phone, and check the data connection. Id bet money its saying HSDPA not HSPA+. That little "H" indicator is a lie and shows up while ur on 3g as well. If your sitting in HSPA+ and get that speed, id be very suprized. zoooom baby! lol.

Meanwhile, 75% of att territory is sitting in 2g coverage. It's laughable that att aspires to be one of the leaders but can't even run a modern network that works in cities or rural areas. Pathetic.

Bai, 75% of the territory is not in 2G, but in 3G - HSPA+ is just faster 3G. It is funny, because I bought a captivate, rooted it and have a PHOENIX rom on it that gives me the H symbol for data. I get 3-5 mbps upload and 1-1.5 mbps upload - the rom has the modem software necessary to do this. You would think that AT&T phones would just simply come with that ability so when a user is in the HSPA+ territory that it would have the speed. It seems to be more of an issue with th 3GPP protocol. But, then why does T-MO have some users getting 6mpbs? It would be nice if AT&T released a phone that was not neutered. Thank you, XDA!!, for making my cappy awesome.

Seventy-five percent of At&t's network is still 2G, but what your getting at is true; the majority of their potential customer base resides in 3G areas. Nevertheless, At&t always has an excuse to cover their claims with. Their coverage in my area has gone steadily downhill over the last 9-12 months, and even the recent upgrades to 3G here haven't done much good. I'm hoping other At&t customers are having better luck than we are here. T-Mobile's EDGE is faster than At&t's 3G in my region.

I usually get about 2.5-3 mbps download and 0.4 mbps upload on my inspire and 2.5-3 mbps download and 1.5 mbps upload on my iPhone 4. So hopefully they will send out an update soon. I could root the inspire but I really don't feel like the hassle. On a side note, the inspire is a complete data hog. I have used 1.5gb of data in about 3 days. Good thing I still have unlimited data.

They sold the phone as 4G without 4G speeds, knowingly. I should sue them but I'm returning this slow device.
