Want to make smartphones less expensive in the USA? Break the "2 year contract" cycle, let people want into a convenience store, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Target, the local gas station and buy a phone. Right now, I'd bet 80-90% of people in the USA THINK you have to get a phone from at&t, verizon, sprint etc for a couple reasons. 1. That's how it has always been done. 2. "Flagship" phones are too expensive to purchase full retail. As long as people buy into the "gotta have the latest & greatest", they will opt to stay slaves to the 2 year contract, paying more than they really should, for a good device. Considering the amount of money that carriers throw at politicians, to keep their lock on the USA market, and in some ways, keeping the flood of good phones OUT of the USA market, nothing will change.

Some of it is true and part of the problem is you can pay for a 2 year contract and get the newest phone for say 199.99 and pay like 80.00 or more a month or you can do this like what I have and I have sprint they suck but they are getting better anyway I pay like 280.00 for 2 phone's a Samsung gear s and a Samsung galaxy tab s 10.5 now with the phone's I pay 50.00 each for unlimited everything so that is 100.00 the gear s I pay 20.00 for 1gb and 10.00 for it to be on a plan but that comes with unlimited talk and text then I pay 10.00 for the tablet to be on the plan with the gate s and share the 1gb I was suppose to not pay the 10.00 for the first year but they messed up so when I called the lady just took 120.00 off my bill to count for the 10.00 for 12 months so that is 50.00 + 50.00 + 20.00 + 10.00 + 10.00 = 140.00 but then I pay installment payments on my devices its like 16.00 for one 26.00 for another 10.00 for another one and 30.00 for the last one and I'm just estimating it is probably a little more for each device but that is like 222.00 and then 13.00 for insurance for 3 of the devices so that is 261.00 and then taxes fee etc. But you can go to metro pcs and that is I believe between 40.00 to 50.00 that's it but you have to buy your phone right out and the there is straight talk which I had but you have to buy your phone or you can use any phone that uses a Sim card which is everyone but sprint but it has to be unlocked and if you don't owe money I believe the company will just give you the code and that is unlimited everything for maybe 50.00 or 60.00 and that is AT&T pretty much all the company's like that are owned by the bigger company's boost is sprint and metro pcs is either I think t-mobile and virgin is Verizon but it all depends on certain things what phone you want can you afford the 700.00 to 900.00 to just buy the phone out right etc.but China is making cheap phone's and I haven't seen or used one but what I read and reviews and unboxing on YouTube they seem really nice but now like sprint is saying bring in your Verizon or AT&T bill and they will cut it in half so with them competing the prices are probably going to start going down and like someone said is once they get all the towers and equipment that will help bit then yes phones are going to be running 5g so I guess we'll have to wait and see but also technology is getting so much better and the parts are being made cheaper price not quality so to Taj so mucus
