I'm considering getting my FIRST tablet. I had a 1st gen Nook Tablet, but I don't consider it to be a tablet. Here are my following top choices, so give me some pros and cons. Thanks! Choices: iPad Air, Sony Xperia Z Tablet, New Google Nexus 10(waiting), and Samsung Galaxy 2014. Other names are welcome. :D

I recommend you the nexus 10 and the note 10.1 2014 especially the nexus 10 because of the price and updates... Wait for its announcement then see reviews and make a decision.

What are your needs? Will you just do internet browsing, or will you prepare documents and play games? Do you need mobile data, or can you tether your phone? Check out the Windows 8.1 tablets, and even the RT ones (the Surface 2 and Nokia Lumia 2520 especially, since they're the newest). I'm likely getting a Lumia 2520 or one of the 8" Windows 8.1 tablets (Dell Venue Pro 8", Acer Iconia W4, Lenovo Miix, or the Asus one I don't recall what it is named) because I need the actual Microsoft Office, an Outlook-friendly system, and several desktop-grade apps aren't on mobile and probably won't be for a long time.

I'm mostly gonna use it for college. Internet browsing definitely, along with preparing documents/ taking notes and stuff. I want to be able to read documents like pdfs. powerpoints, docs. Mostly that, I'm not a gamer so yeah, but I prefer a good display cuz I have bad eyesight already. Also battery life plays a big role for me, I'm usually at school for like 12 hrs. But I have breaks so I could potentially charge it. Thanks for the info.

Am I the only one who thinks WiFi 801.ac should have been on there? They put it on all their new laptops, why not the new iPads?

Agree with you there. I think 802.11ac should been onboard for iPad, but we haven't yet moved on from its "n" yet, but yeah it would help in the future. I think some routers now coming with ac and so called beaming which detects which direction your computer is in and adjusts signal strength your way. So yeah it would have been a plus point.

Funny, none of these matter to me. The iPad Air is nice but honestly it is still heavier than the kindle fire hdx 8.9. If they could get it even lighter and around $100 cheaper I think it would be awesome.

Why give something away when you can charge extra for it, even if it SHOULD come as free. I am sure Apple will justify it by saying that 90% of people who buy iPads don't use it with headphones therefore they are giving the customer what they want.
