It's 2018 and the best smartphones out there still have a pretty embarrassing battery life

Just a couple of years ago, a couple of 5.5-inch phones were available with a 5,000mAh+ battery and with a frugal chip inside, they could last as much as three days on a single charge...

When co-worker ifans get uppity about cell life, I show my sot and the BS about that stops there. Not one can manage 8-9 hrs sot, straight up. They love to purport these charts but in real life usage they're on the cable by lunch.

I managed 7-8h during one day on my iP 7; on a 7+ I have managed 10+h with 20-30% battery remaining. It's crazy to use the phone so much during one single day (unless you're a developer and you're testing s**t) but it's good to know that an iP (the regular one, not the X, not the +) can easily get you through a normal day (4-5h, even 6h with a little bit of management on a longer day).

Lies. 7-8h SOT is absolutely not possible on any iphone with normal usage. Generally midrange Android phones with +4000mah batteries get numbers like that.

My Lenovo P2 is still getting me over 15 hours SoT with no gaming (30% brightness / Wifi + 4G on / Bluetooth off)

30% brightness? I wonder if most people would tolerate that I cannot. The auto brightness on every phone I have had is too dark for me.

You get used to it. Sometimes I use auto brightness for outdoors, and it takes maybe 1-2 hours off the total SoT. S-AMOLED screen on P2 is pretty good though.

As you get older your low-light prowess takes a hit. Father Time is undefeated.

That is the truth. The last time I was flying I noticed several older people even with glasses having to hold their phones 3 inches from their face. Then I noticed they all were using several year old iPhones.

Your Lenovo was made for the international market where people do not upgrade every year so it forces Lenovo to actually make a lasting product.

And they forgot the Huawei P20 Pro which has a 4000 mAh battery.

That battery life test is bulls**t. I've had both iPhone X and OnePlus 6 and with my usage, OnePlus 6 easily got through 1,5-2 days on one charge, whereas iPhone was very often dead before the end of one day...

I heard of that: it's a special program where some users get personalized Android devices that defy physics and personalized iPhones with all the imaginable bugs...

you don't have to be such a jerk, i'm just posting my personal opinion and experience with those devices. i still think iPhone 8 is amazing and has much betetr battery life (comparable to OP6), but the one in iPx is just weak ?

I'm not a jerk, I'm just saying that if you think X has a weaker battery than 8 or OP6 - although every test and most of life usage scenarios are saying the contrary - you have damaged devices.

I kid you not, the first 2 days I used my Pixel XL I got over 14 hours of SOT over 2 days before it needed a recharge. Never again though. Starting with the 3rd day I'm back to 5-8 hours of SOT.

Leo just forget about defending the iPhone regarding battery life. You're making a fool of yourself. Only you and phonearena seem to think the X is a battery champ.

iPhone doesn't need me to defend it (in fact, if you['re crazy enough to :)] look thorough my messages, you'll see I have also been criticizing the bad things, including the battery life with some iOS releases). I'm not saying X is a battery champ, in just saying it's a phone that can be used a full day and its battery life is better than the one on both iPhone 8 and op 6 in most usage scenarios.

I can testify that the OP6 has incredible battery life, especially after the 5.1.9 update mine lasts 2.5 and many times 3 days with 4h of screen time.

I have always been baffled by this as well. Thank God for Huawei. They are the reason Samsung is increasing their battery capacity, I am quite sure. Soon other manufacturers will be forced to increase the battery capacity of their phones to remain competitive. IMO 4000Mah should be the minimum on flagship phones.

My S9 Plus easily gets me threw the day.

Thin phones don't like big batteries. That's the issue.

Not only sh!tty battery life, but also the fragile glass back is also a MUST feature for flagship phones today + ridiculous price. That's why I am still using my Lenovo P2 after 1.5 years (earlier I used to change phones every 6 months)..

I doubt any iphone can reach 4h SoT

I always say iPhones have great standby but terrible SOT. I'm a have SOT user so my battery life sucks. Ask a more casual user and their story is different.

S9 battery sucks, no wonder why it’s not selling as expected. They should put 10mah in their phones than making ads agaist iphone. Not a good marketing for them.

I find it very bizarre that no website comments that cheap Chinese phones flaunt large batteries with Li-ion, whilst every other big brand uses Li-po. Those phones with Li-ion aren't going to hold charge the same in 1 or 2 years time, Li-po is much more resilient.

Both Samsung and Apple use Li-ion too. Apple's planned obsolescence for their batteries and their phones in general is now common knowledge. So what's your point exactly?

Try the OnePlus 6. It gives me 2.5 days (60 hours) of battery life with 4 hours of screen time after the last update 5.1.9. If you use it a lot you can still get 2-day battery life with 6h of screen time. If you are using it very intensively you can get 10-11 hours of screen time over 24 hours.

This should have been sticked on the front page for three years now. I work outside so essentially all screen time is at max brightness, add the usual battery degradation of a year of charging and discharging, and my "7 hour" phone is running on fumes at two hours of SOT. I don't need more GHz. I don't need four cameras. I don't need more pixels. I need a phone that's actually alive at the end of the day and nobody wants to sell me one.

Can't have thin phone without compromising on battery. Fast-charging eases the pain a little.
