t's hard to believe it's been almost an entire week since we liveblogged the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z1 events and struggled to keep tabs on the numerous other announcement made throughout the halls of IFA.

Premium Sony Xperia Z1 cases on display at IFA 2013

While browsing through the spacious Sony hall at IFA 2013, we came across a section where a variety of pretty cases were on display. To be more specific, these were all Sony Xperia Z1 cases – cases of all kinds and colors. Naturally, we stopped by to take a look and snap some photos...

Archos 101 XS 2 Hands-on

Is it a tablet? Is it a laptop? Well, it is a mash-up of both, actually – the Archos 101 XS 2 can be used as a stand-alone tablet, but it comes bundled with a hardware keyboard, in which it can be docked. In other words, it serves the purpose of both an entertainment and a productivity device. Its price is also pretty reasonable, but we'll get to that later...

Archos 53 Platinum Hands-on

"Platinum" is a word that one would instinctively associate with a classy, premium product. However, there's pretty much nothing fancy about the Archos 53 Platinum – an inexpensive Android handset, which aims to attract buyers with its large display. It is a smartphone made of the most basic glossy plastic you can imagine. Not only that it feels cheap, but it also acts as an ideal magnet for fingerprints. At least it fits nice in the palm despite the size and its buttons are easy to reach...

Lenovo S5000 Hands-on

Until recently, Lenovo was a name associated only with Windows-based PCs. Now, however, things aren't quite the same. The Chinese company makes more money selling mobile devices, so we see nothing surprising in it extending its line-up even further. The Lenovo S5000 is a new Android tablet that we got the chance to check out at IFA 2013. It is by no means a Nexus 7 killer, but it is shaping up as a reasonably-priced ultra-portable slate...

iPhone 5C isn't official yet, but these iPhone 5C cases are

You've probably heard of the iPhone 5C. You might have seen photos of the iPhone 5C. And perhaps you've read the rumors about the iPhone 5C. But is the iPhone 5C official? No, not yet. Apple is expected to announce the device on September 10 during a special event. This, however, isn't stopping accessory makers from designing iPhone 5C cases already...

featured Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs HTC One: first look

The wireless industry knows many rivalries, but easily one of the most epic ones is the one between Samsung and HTC. After a spectacular entrance in the Android market, HTC has then went through a painful period of lacking sales and dwindling market share, mainly due to Samsung's quick rise to the top spot...

HTC One red and blue models appear at IFA, we take a look

The HTC One is already a great-looking smartphone – a handset that easily stands out of the crowd as it is like no other. Its blue and red versions, however, are even more visually appealing than the variants you might be familiar with already. Both were on display at the HTC booth at IFA so we stopped by to take a closer look...

Toshiba Encore Hands-on

There is surely no shortage of Windows 8 tablets anymore. Many major tech companies have their own models already on the market. But when it comes to Windows 8 tablets with smaller screens, then there aren't many options one may choose from. Toshiba aims to fill that gap with the Encore – a low-cost Windows tablet that's compact enough to be held with a single hand. Or is it? Well, kind of...

Lenovo Vibe X Hands-on

It has been a while since we last had the chance to test a Lenovo smartphone, so while we were at the company's booth at IFA, we decided to spend some time with one of its latest devices. It is known as the Lenovo Vibe X – an Android handset that packs quite a punch while keeping a slim profile at the same time. How slim, you ask? Well, the smartphone has a thickness of under 7 millimeters, which is impressive, to say the least. It is also very light for its size. What makes the Lenovo Vibe X feel even more premium is the...

featured Sony Vaio Tap 11 Hands-on

The sleek and shiny Xperia Z1 wasn't the only device that Sony managed to attract our attention with. At IFA 2013, we also had the chance to give the new Sony Vaio Tap 11 a quick try. For those who've missed the news, that's the "world's thinnest Windows 8 tablet PC" powered by an Intel Core processor. Sony has managed to trim down its waistline to just 9.9 millimeters, which is actually quite good considering the hardware inside this one. But more on that later. Let's first say a few words about the way the device looks and feels...

Samsung has just announced its new phablet, the Galaxy Note 3, but LG has also recently unveiled a killer product - the G2, which has already proven to be an amazing smartphone. Sony Xperia Z1's Social Live feature lets you broadcast video to your Facebook feed (demo)

The Sony Xperia Z1 is packed with awesome features, and the 20.7 MP camera is definitely one of the most intriguing ones. What's more, Sony has created a new camera mode that allows you to stream live video directly to your Facebook feed! How cool is that? Of course, we couldn't miss the opportunity to check it out, so we gave Social Live a try. Watch the video to see what happened!...

featured Sony Xperia Z1 Augmented Reality and Photo Filter camera samples

It looks like Sony has done a terrific job with the Xperia Z1. Not only does the handset look and feel great, but it also sports a versatile camera with an ambitious camera sensor and a bunch of fun camera modes. Of course, you didn't think that Sony's going to put such a camera in your pocket and won't stuff a bunch of cool photo filters in it, did you? Well, the good news is that the Z1 packs not only your standard photo filters, but some fancy AR (augmented reality) effects as well! The AR effects are basically some beautiful...

Lenovo Idea Pad Yoga 2 Pro takes on the ATIV Q with 3200x1800 pixels, keeps it bendy

Idea Pad Yoga 2 Pro weighs just 3 pounds, and is only 15mm thick, making it ideal for lugging around the full power of Windows 8 in a shapeshifting format. We get a backlit keybaord this time, which is a very welcome upgrade, and the internals don't disappoint, either - your choice of several frugal 4th-gen Intel Haswell chipsets, 8 GB of RAM, and up to 512 GB SSD. There is also Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, one USB 3.0 and one 2.0 ports...

Alcatel One Touch Idol mini Hands-on

What would a mobile phone portfolio be today without a "mini" title in it, and Alcatel hops on the bandwagon with the Idol mini - a 4.3" handset with 480x854 pixels of resolution. The screen seems to be of average quality, neither too bright, nor with very wide viewing angles, clocking contrast and brightness shift when tilted, but nothing significant...

featured Alcatel One Touch Hero Hands-on

Alcatel enters the phablet fray with the One Touch Hero, and when we examined the handset plus the accompanying accessories, the phone fully deserves its title. It is huge, with a bright and vivid 6" Full HD display, yet thanks to the minimized bezel all around, it is fairly manageable, though one-handed operation is a full stretch. Alcatel has provided the usual interface enhancements for one-handed operation, like shrinking the dialer or keyboard to the left or right on the screen, so you can tap with your thumb only, but it is still uncomfortable to use this way...

Alcatel One Touch Idol Alpha Hands-on

Now that's a wonderful surprise. Here at IFA 2013 we had the chance to try the Alcatel One Touch Idol Alpha and we can say that it is one of the best-looking handsets we've tried so far at the expo. Upon picking it up, our attention was drawn by the transparent elements on the handset's top and bottom sides. They don't only look great, but also serve a practical purpose as the bottom one lights up when there's a notification pending. Then there's the metal diamond-cut trim at the sides of the device...

Asus Transformer Book T300 Hands-on

ASUS more or less paved the way for a new product category to emerge – the so-called convertible kind of tablets. They snap into a keyboard dock, thus getting transformed into a portable notebook computer. The new Asus Transformer Book T300 is one such gadget and we got the chance to test it out during IFA 2013. The first thing that we noticed about it was that the Asus Transformer Book was quite heavy. The tablet itself weighs over a kilo so good luck using it extensively without support...

featured LG G Pad 8.3 Hands-on

So, there we were, enjoying our sweet time at IFA 2013, and all of a sudden, we realized that it's high time we join LG for some hands-on time with their new tablet - the LG G Pad 8.3. And we've got to tell you, folks, as big as our excitement already was for this device, it literally went through the roof when we first put our hands-on this product. The G Pad 8.3 marks the return of LG to the tablet scene. After the release of the Optimus Pad quite some time ago, LG went MIA as far as tablets go, but now, it looks like the comapny is going for an epic comeback with the G Pad 8.3...

Clearly, Sony isn't playing around. Its newly-announced flagship handset, the Xperia Z1, is shaping up as a high-end smartphone worthy of attention – a smartphone that seemingly has the potential to cause a splash on the market. But Sony's latest and greatest will be met by some heated competition once it is out, of course. Samsung will be one of the players to beat, and the run against the Galaxy S4, which has been selling by the millions worldwide, will be tough.
