With another summer behind us, we take a look at four top-notch camera centric smartphones, which include the iPhone 4S, HTC Amaze 4G, Motorola DROID and the Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile), to see which one is able to produce the best-looking photos out of the bunch...

Dear John,

Thanks for a thorough and helpful comparison.

Could you perhaps comment on whether the Nokia N8 remains the best cameraphone?

Many thanks,

DW Roberts.

title says top notch camera phone but i don't see nokia n9 or lumia 800 there. instead motorola n htc can be there.

wondering how the editors can do that...

HTC always has crappy cameras.
Moto sometimes do something good...ZN5 or even Droid X.
But in RAZR...nothing to write home about.
I know I know..the article is about best cameraphone among top notch droids...but why not among phones at all?
Or N8 is so good that they don't have to remind that?
ps. I'm sorry, but even N82 takes better photos than HTC (A)maze.

The differences are so vague that the average user won't really know the difference,at the end of the day they all have top notch cameras and most people wouldn't spot the difference in their drunken night out photos lol. I must say the nokia n8 is the best ive used though

We'll see, what the future holds.

(nokia n8 has indeed one of the best cameras) you're right about that. xD

I have the Motorola DROID Bionic. The default camera app is rather crap. I purchased Vignette and it takes much higher quality photos then the default camera app.

On videos, I can really tell a difference between the 720p and the 1080p on my phone. I'm at work so I cant watch the vids posted in the review, but there you go. My nickle given.

Look forward to the Rezound, Nexus and RZR camera reviews. I swore I read somewhere on here (either a article or someones response) that the Rezound has new camera technology but can't find it. This, along with sound (I listen to music ALL day long at work) and display, are key points for me when purchasing a phone.

rezound has probably the same camera unit as Touch 4g (posibbly best camera among htc phones)

I wonder why this didn't wait for the RAZR and the Nexus but I guess they have that comparison hopefully by that time the SE phone is out and we can see its camera con action

Wow, many HTC fanboys i've seen here.

GS2 has a better camera than all HTC phones in terms of spec.
Im not talking about Megapixels or things that, but the indicated camera sensor and lens. Apart from sony&nokia(n8, n9) which using carl-zeiss lens, GS2 has better camera and that includes iphone.

The thing for me is I am not a major fan of any one phone maker over the next. The thing that does have my attention is Motorola's webtop feature. That puts me in a postion where I pretty much have to choose a Motorola phone to get the webtop feature. As mentioned before I'm not biased towards one phone maker over another. I want Samsung's Galaxy screen size but I want Motorola's webtop feature (keyboard and mouse of course). Does anybody know if any other phone manufacturer's are coming out with there own webtop-like feature or am I stuck sticking to only Motorola to get something like the webtop. I saw something about a webtop-like device for the Evo 4g but the description did not say anyting about keyoard/mouse connections, plus it seemd like it was only for EVo 4g. ????????????????? I will post this same comment on a few other threads in case no one see's it here so don't be annoyed if you see this post on 6-7 other threads!!! (maybe more if I don't get a response)

Taken with the Sprint Galaxy SII, Epic 4G Touch (same sensor as the T-Mobile GS2):

Your mileage will vary, don't take a reviewers article as gospel.

Another completely flawed meaningless test :)

Okay you are going out on stag party or if you happen to be a female reader a hen do. You know the kinda things that normal people actually use camera's for i.e. 'real life' situation(s) rather then taking pics of stationary buildings and stuffed toys!

You want to make sure you capture this moment for prosperity - this one off event...so okay 'The million dollar question'....Could you really risk leaving your stand alone camera at home for any of these phones ?

No way!!!!

In low light indoors in clubs pubs etc when your mates are moving around you will just get blurred photos. go on try it..if you don't believe me :)

That's because they all use an LED flash. And that's because of cost, power management and the obsession for size zero handsets.

If the comparison(s) showed 'a typical night out' the differences would be staggering. It bemuses me it really does, everytime I see one of these so called tests! :)

There is only one camera phone - the unfashionable 'elephant in the room' Nokia N8 that has a decent enough camera to feel confident enough on a night out to leave your point and shoot at home. It uses a proper Xenon flash as used on proper camera's which means that you can take proper 'real life' photos and it captures them without blurring...kinda useful me thinks! ;)

I have lost count of the number of times I have seen women out on the town with an Iphone 4 only to reach into their bags to take a real camera out to take their night time facebook pics.

Of course if PA were to admit that every LED equipped phone camera was pretty much useless in more realistic situations they wouldn't have an article to write :)
