Sony Xperia Z vs Samsung Galaxy S III

0. phoneArena 18 Feb 2013, 08:22 posted on

Sony was quick to release its flagship smartphone for the first half of 2013 – the Xperia Z. The company did its job ahead of everyone else and is now enjoying a comfortable specs lead against the current Android flagships on the market. But as we all know, specs ain't everything! Could it be that the Galaxy S III, one of the best smartphones of 2012, can still prove to be a worthy opponent to the Xperia Z, even though technological evolution is on the side of Sony's handset? Let us take a closer look and find out!...

Instead of complaining like a butthurt fanboy, why don't you just move to another tech site that would praise your fav brand if you're not happy here?!

I'm not a fanboy Kid, I'm just telling the truth. I have respect for the S3 but clearly it's no match to Z. I have an iphone 5, an Acro S and a Galaxy S3. I can tell you that Acro S can match iphone 5 and Galaxy S3 in terms of Display, camera and of course Acro S is a waterproof phone which S3 and iphone doesn't have. Before making a comment, why don't you watch and read tech reviews, and if you have enough bucks, buy high end phones with different manufacturers so you can compare huh? KID!

hahah so you're trying to boast that you're rich enough to buy high end phones.. You sound indeed like an iphone user but hey, smart people actually don't need to buy the phones they want to compare. You just have to go to the nearest store. That's what I did with the XZ last week, the screen sucks compared to the other 1080p LCD like the DNA. Even the ip5 screen is better! Pixel density isn't the only criteria of a good display.
Oh wow, calling other people; "kid" when you're the one whining like a butthurt crybaby . Nice analogy dude..

PA didnt even say that S3 is better than XZ :D as much as i read, XZ wins on bulid quality with the proof2 thing and look, processor and and...

S3 wins on video quality, call qualty, UI functionality

on camera quality and screen, both have pros and cons anyway s3 is a 9month old smartphone and almost 2 years including its research and development hehe

I had an opportunity to play with Sony Xperia Z. I have GS3 and def some things are far better then things from Z. On Z display is def disapointing. Sony even took some tricks from Galaxy devices and in the end I had a feeling when playing with the Z that she is not offering the wow effect or something special worth playing. Design is good, gs3 has better handling for me, Z is superb fluid phone and I am recommending to everyone. Beside that there is water thing which is great, camera has great options which detects your walk, desk mode etc plus automatic color sharpness, brightness settings when you are watching pictures, video's etc ... They are all great but I'll wait for S4 and HTC first :)

"butthurt sammy fanboy"? How exactly am I being butthurt? It's not me complaining about the result of this comparison. LMAO!
The nearly 1year old GSIII is still able to compete with newer smartphones, even winning comparison like this. Why would I be butthurt? ahahaha perhaps you should learn the real definition of being butthurt. Just look at yourself in the mirror and say it again. =]

PA is aiding you these comparisons, PA mentioned many superior things abt XZ above the s3 and yet ur telling that PA is bias because PA tells some glitches with XZ, if u want to have a perfect review for ur FAVORITE smartphone, then build ur own site.. and thats d time people will mention ur techsite as "EMADSONY"

in terms of build quality, the Galaxy S III is really no match for the Xperia Z, as its thin, plastic body may be pleasant to the touch, but leaves a lot to be desired as far as sturdiness and materials go.

well stuff.tv made it their number smartphone. toppled the s3 on their leaderboard. gsmarena also has good words for the device although the pointed out the less than satisfactory display and the camera shots that they called not much of an improvement over the last year's flagships. still, it's an improvement so it implies that the z has overtaken the s3 and ip5.

How on earth can you even compare a company such as Samsung, which praises innovation, allows free competition, doesn't voluntarily get involved in lawsuits, sends every new flagship phone for free for the XDA developers to hack at it at will and is the primary reason the world knows how awesome Android is today, to the rotten, greedy, stale, run by lawyers-and-co Apple which acts as a dictator in the industry, a giant rotten empire of control-obsessed narcissistic old fashioned idiots which targets primarily people with zero clue in technology?!?!

This is absurd.

i'm afraid most of other fanboys don't have any knowledge or even a brain to think that far.. it's not about how innovative is a company or how rotten is a fruit.. all they know is if one company become much more succesful by dominating the market ( just like apple before and samsung recently ) they becoming the enemy of the public.. too much hate towards samsung now just because they are doing sooo well than another companies.. about two or three years ago you won't find these samsung haters here...

The public forgets that as long as Apple exists - digital freedom itself is endangered. We should all focus on tarnishing Apple's reputation for the company to burn to ashes. Then we shall see who will take Apple's "place".

I've never complained about the viewing angle comparisons they do. I think this is not so useful...unless it's a tablet or something bigger that a tablet but the output of the screen can be compared.
A phone is a personal thing...i don't think people will watch a video on a phone like TV with couple of friends.
I don't really support that segment...just saying.

Friends...value of the gadget is more likely to be claimed by its market value after 6 months and I must say galaxy s3 will nail xperia z. I used xperia s lately the performance as compare to galaxy s2 was like tortoise run and the battery backup was worst of its own kind...and if you talk about s3... a slight over clocked processor with option to use extended battery makes it a time and again champion...

When all those featutes combined yes...But separately Xperia Z is not the only phone you can find them in. 5" full HD-Droid DNA and Oppo Find 5. 13 Megapixel-LG Optimus G (Sprint) and Oppo Find 5, Galaxy Camera (13+), Nokia 808 Pureview (13+) Water and Dust proof-other rugged phones. Being a phone that combines all these features is an accomplishment so good for Sony! What I do notice is that when it comes to these types of phones, people tend to overhype things as seen when the iPhone 5 was released, Galaxy S3, Nexus 4 and other flagship phones.

Hey dude don´t get me wrong ive been a sony ericsson / sony fan since FOREVER. All my past phones have been sony ericsson. i think the xperias are the most beautiful phones and the best in clean ui design but i have a Xperia TX and im gonna tell you why i am dissapointed:

All the sony apps in my phone lag or crash ( contacts, album, walkman (most beautiful payer but crashes all the time!) replaced all of them.

the camera app its slow, doesn´t focus well, and its not snappy when you need it to be.

the battery is awful

its laggy

lock/unlock button placement its uncomfortable ( far left upper side of the phone)

On the screen discussion im actually that guy that doesnt care how big it is,or if its saturated or not, not even care about the ppi or the viewing angles.

The reason that im mad is that i spent to much money in a so so experience if i would have wanted that i would have bought an old midrange like an xperia p. But no i listened to sony and i bought their latest 2012 Flagship believing i would have the best experience.i was so blind i didnt consider all the reviews that said its was a so so phone that didnt have anything unique or new ( like this one)

Yes i do have an uniquely designed and sleek beautiful phone but doest it work well when i need it to? no.

and I practically have last year´s sony flagship. Its been 2 months and im dissapointed. Believe me i would have blindly bought any sony phone before but not now. Thats why im a dissapointed sony fan and i wont trust them again.

Phonearena is very predictable... First preference for Apple products, followed by Samsung and then finally the rest...Had observed this for few months...

Now a days when we login to phonearena.com, you would see huge advertisements from Samsung, so obviously they need to support Samsung, its no more a review, but more of a business between Sammy and PA..

The butthurt here is hilarious. Just admit that the GS2 dominated 2011, the GS3 did the same with 2012 and can hold it's own against early 2013 handsets. Nothing biased about that. The fact is that the GS3 is the most well rounded Android handset. It certainly is the most versatile high end Android handset with the replaceable battery and an Micro SD card slot. It certainly has the best accessory and developer support. In fact, the only thing people can fault it for is..

eeewwwwww cheap plastic!

eeewwww pentile that nobody else can notice but we can!

Two totally subjective things. If those two are the best the haters can come up with then you know it is a great handset. While the Xperia Z has some very objective flaws like the poor viewing angles, call quality, and reflective glass etc.

Whether or not the obvious strengths of the Xperia Z trump the well rounded GS3 is totally up to you but phonearena feels that the GS3 can hold it's own and I tend to agree for now. That could change once I own a Xperia Z for a few weeks but I wouldn't shocked if the GS3 can go toe to toe with it.
