LOL....PA guys are getting funnier day by day. If this is a mediocre camera, GS3 has one of the crappiest cameras. You guys don't even spend enough time before reviewing a device if it's not made by one of your favorite manufacturers. Your reviews are very subjective these days.

Wait till there is a hack that disables picture compression. I use it on my current phone the pics are like 25MB each but they look much better. Sonys notorious for using heavy compression that ruins quality, wait for a hack to disable it before you judge the new Camera, its just a fail on Sonys part to not offer lossless pictures.

, go to gsmarena photo compare tool and compare s3 and note 2 with those sony's last year's flagships even w/ 13mp! and ull never see any phone from Sony that will have better image with fine details with lesser noise..

"crappy camera" is not a good way to describe it, and people like you just cause hate, nothing else

Remember when the HTC One X got a 7.8? I thought it was an excellent phone during the time I had it. This is based on their opinion. An 8.5 isn't bad, but try it out before making a decision. That's always the breaking point when you try it out yourself rather than trusting a review.

They're BIASED... End of story, bro...:)
If it was iFruit, they would've said "OMG... 10 isn't enough... It's a gift from HEAVEN"... Something like that...:)

LOL just because their used 2 the over-saturated and limited features of an iphone..... THE Look of natural colours is what most photographers look for and colour enhancement so be an option not mandatory...so phone-arena if you don't know what real photos are suppose to look like and have no photography skills, Clearly from your random shots.....>_< , you can't judge the camera on this phone or any phone rather...since your preference is bias and stuck on everything looking like the iphone like thats the standard when in fact its far below that. The standard should be 920 lumia for smartphones... if that's the case and your iphone is 7.0
118. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
The Z snaps best color quality. You can't fix over saturation but if you wanted you can saturate an original pic to look like ip5 camera.

What does the Iphone 5 have that the Xperia Z doesn't?
293. kaldorei (Posts: 6; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
Apple brand and the iOS. Sure of that, and that's why I do not buy the iPhone, Lol
157. samystic (Posts: 230; Member since: 25 Mar 2012)
please looked out 1st picture with poor sharpness! blonde's hair appear to have no sharpness... look at tiles... look at other images... no sharpness at all!!! review is balanced... i did not find anything except ruggedness exciting
288. Coolkid (Posts: 25; Member since: 01 Nov 2012)
Why don't you look out for other reviews... Everybody's praising Z's cam... You're jus makin a decision basing off a pic posted by these biased guys... I mean, if everybody bashes the cam in their review... It's acceptable... But everybody except this site praises the cam... Jus think about it...:)

Biased review by iphonearena , in another website, xperia z have many great review in camera department, and good in low-light performance,,
you can see another website like unleashedmobile.com or eprice.hk, or even gsmarena tell us that xperia z is beast phone!!
24. alila2 (Posts: 138; Member since: 01 Nov 2011)
Nice review , but i disagree about the camera. Now would you please review the ZL ,thanks.
26. danielxxi (Posts: 183; Member since: 13 Feb 2013)
If this iphone 5S review with just same design, and it will get 9.99..
Or samsung galaxy S4 with oversaturated colours, ugly bulky cheapo plastic design, it will get 9.88
88. maccess (Posts: 742; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
Please dont get too butthurt.. the only WOW factor about this phone is only the design.. and honestly the rest of the specs and the features didn't impressed me so much.. seriously there is nothing new comes from this phone.. it just average high end phone for 2013..
93. danielxxi (Posts: 183; Member since: 13 Feb 2013)
Yeah i agree, but this review is too much biased ok? Look the camera review, its like phonearena hates sony so much ( ˘̶̀• ̯•˘̶́)
95. maccess (Posts: 742; Member since: 16 Jan 2013)
Yeah i kinda agree with you but i think 8.5 is a fair score.. but hey no matter what score they give just buy the phone if you love it.. this still a great phone though.. no phone is perfect right..
120. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
I would rate it a 9 because this phone is coming out a little to late. If they would have released it in November-December it would have gotten a much higher score.
173. bipinm (Posts: 124; Member since: 07 Oct 2012)
I will rate it to 9 too.. i mean
It looks great...
The display is super...1080 with BE2 is even better...
The battery is very good..(PA said so)
The front and back is dragon trail glass with scratch resistant...(unlike iphone)
Water and dust resistance (in a flagship model)...
The specs are great..i will play anything and everything we throw at it...
For the first time we have HDR video in a smartphone...
What more do u want...

" oversaturated colours, ugly bulky cheapo plastic design".
Watch what you are saying.
27. josephnero (Posts: 555; Member since: 16 Nov 2011)
the next iphone will use the same camera sensor and will be called super awesome by some review sites
83. Taters (banned) (Posts: 6474; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
Which would be the way of the world. Nikon can make Sony sensors work much better than Sony can. Apple is the same way, they just have better software for their sensors.
121. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
Apple camera software = apply saturation effect. You can do that in a few seconds yourself and have the original colors to.
139. Taters (banned) (Posts: 6474; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
Let's just say your right, it still doesn't change the fact that pro photography sites like Dpreview prefer the image quality of Nikon cameras with a Sony sensor over a Sony camera with the same sensor.
Sony noise reduction software smears details period, no matter how nice their sensors are. It appears to be the case here as well.
203. r41nier (Posts: 70; Member since: 13 Oct 2011)
dpreview does not really prefer Nikon or Sony. Both Nikon and Sony has many gold awards from dpreview (Sony: NEX-7, A65, A99. Nikon: D600, D800)
28. UrbanPhantom (Posts: 949; Member since: 30 Oct 2012)
Only 16MB Storage, with a so-so TFT primary display that has limited viewing angles and poor visibility in sunlight, and no wireless charging. What kind of a review rating did you expect?
Sony Xperia Z is good, but certainly not perfect...
72. UrbanPhantom (Posts: 949; Member since: 30 Oct 2012)
Ooops, I meant to write 16GB, not MB (hah). The Experia Z does have an SD expansion slot, which is useful, although I believe that external memory cards run slower than internal memory. I was kind of surprised they found the rear facing 13MP camera to be only "average", considering that Sony makes the sensors found in Nikon cameras. I thought it might exceed the rear camera quality of the Lumia 920, but it appears that is not the case, despite the extra MP...
Those of you wanting to buy the Xperia Z need to face reality: it's not a perfect device, and it is missing some of the features found on other competing smartphones. Yes, it's water and dust proof, but that's just one consideration. I'll stick with my Lumia 920, which is basically shock proof. I don't see myself going swimming with my smartphone in the ocean, and surviving a drop is more important than being submersible, in my humble opinion.
One more thing: Android OS is highly insecure, and those bashing WP8 devices won't be laughing when their personal data gets hacked, and is sold for identity theft purposes. WP8 and BB-10 offer a higher level of security, and those bashing either OS are clearly unaware of the risks involved with losing your financial or personal information.
I'm not saying Android is terrible, but it can be viewed as both a pro and a con in regards to this particular smartphone model...
92. fahqman (Posts: 38; Member since: 06 Jan 2013)
I completely agree with what you said about the xperia Z.
Andriod OS is indeed more insecure than other popular OSs. However, WP8, BB10 and iOS doesn't offer many hardwares which matters more to regular people, like myself. I'm careful with what I download on my phone and I haven't had any security problems, yet(thank god).
No matter what OS you use, if you're not careful with what you put on your phone, you will see a problem.
102. UrbanPhantom (Posts: 949; Member since: 30 Oct 2012)
Thanks for your input, and polite manner, which is uncommon on these forums. I was actually going to buy a Nexus 4, previously, but they were never in stock, and I ended up getting a Lumia 920 instead. I'm very pleased with my purchase, and WP8 works just fine. It doesn't have the massive app collection that Android has, but it does not have the malware either. However, you are correct that being careful about what you install can minimize your exposure to intruders and loss of personal data...
I guess it all comes down to personal choice, but it does pay to do research before buying. Cheers! :o`
294. kaldorei (Posts: 6; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
Oops! I used to owned a Lumia 920. Yeah "Used to owned" means I let it gone anyway. I cannot stand for the WP8. It really abuse me a lot, and cannot provide any good point for my work. I really disappointed with Microsoft, after all.
And the picture quality of Lumia 920 is not as good as expected also, out of detail in normal condition, even with the update package.
179. bipinm (Posts: 124; Member since: 07 Oct 2012)
that display is way better than anything...
This review already said the visibility is good in sunlight...
what is the point of wireless charging...say u wanna play a game while charging , u have to take the charger and the phone...but conventional charger has no problem...wireless charging will be better when we can charge the phone at a distance from the charger...not now...
every phone have fault...nothing is perfect...

your avatar says it all..... enjoy your phone!:)

I've expected a 9.5.
It has a lot compared to the Iphone 5, funny that you expected this rating.
62. MartyK (Posts: 786; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
it's out already, just grab a 4s or 5 (it doesn't matter) in your hand, close your eyes for 15 second, and open it, BAM! 6SL in your hand....hahaha
82. MartyK (Posts: 786; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
what do you think is going to be so different in the new model?, what are you hoping for?.
122. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
iPhone 5s will be = A6 running at 1.5ghz, better screen, same old OS as past 5 years. Nothing really mention-able besides that.
295. kaldorei (Posts: 6; Member since: 15 Feb 2013)
I do not hate iphone. but I do not want to become a prisoner of Apple eco-system. Once you jumped in, It's hard to jump out.
YEAH. Slavery is gone long time ago!
31. neillund (Posts: 2; Member since: 13 Feb 2013)
A couple of details you haven't mentioned. Its made with Dragontrail glass and the display puts out 480 nits when brightness is set to maximum.
32. danielxxi (Posts: 183; Member since: 13 Feb 2013)
@josephnero: agree, and they will be called icrappy 5S with spectacular amazing camera with the same sensor as they daddy
@Urbanphantom, you can't read or what? 16MB? ┌П┐(•͡˘o˘ •͡҂)
33. Coolkid (Posts: 25; Member since: 01 Nov 2012)
Okay... I know Lumia 920 is the best, when it comes to low-light performance... But Z also produces decent low-light pics, if not better than Lumia... Look at this & find how biased this iPhone supporters are, regarding Sonys camera.... Shame on you iPhone-arena... I couldn't post the link here...

disappointed by SONY once again , as a student, i m not gonna throw my money on this , i m still looking for "BEST of SONY" ,
78. kephaff (Posts: 15; Member since: 10 Feb 2013)
Check it for yourself first other websites are giving it higher reviews or talking highly of it like gsmarena
284. XperiaFanZone (Posts: 2071; Member since: 21 Sep 2012)
Hey, don't depend on the reviews, why don't you buy the phone, you'll be satisfied with it, trust me :D
36. bustervic (Posts: 25; Member since: 13 Feb 2012)
I normally respect the Phonearena reviews but I have to say they got this one wrong. Lets say that the S3 is the standard as to how we judge most Android devices, and that got a 9.3.
The camera and video quality is pretty much on par with the S3, although low light will be better and the Sony Camera has more features built in.
The screen albeit has inferior viewing angles, has similar lighting and FAR better pixel density and viewing quality than the S3
The device itself is water and dust resistant and made of high quality materials that feel high quality in touch.
The Sony skin is 100000 nicer visually, and in use that touchwiz.
In any other parameter it is at least equal to the S3.
So how, tell me how, this isn't AT LEAST deserving of the same rating as the S3?
38. feres13 (Posts: 306; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
Yeah but the S3 was released in june 2012 and had great specs and features at this time, the xperia Z in going to compete with The S4, the M7, The X-Phone... and back in summer of last year the only sony phone in the US was the ION and it was...not great.
59. bustervic (Posts: 25; Member since: 13 Feb 2012)
My point is that the Z IS in fact better on many levels, and at the very least should see the same rating.
87. Taters (banned) (Posts: 6474; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
You are missing his point entirely. If every new phone had to have at least the same rating as an old phone that scored high, then we would run out of parameters to rate the new phones. 10/10 GS1 would turn into 11/10 GS2 which would turn into 12/10 GS3 and then 13/10 Xperia Z. Then what? 14/10 Xperia Z 2?
No, that isn't how it works. LOL Like everything, the rating depends on the competition and how good the handset was for it's time.
The GS3 was the best handset in mid 2012 when it was reviewed so it got a 9.3. The Xperia Z is too close to the Oppo Find 5, Padfone 2, Nexus 4, and Droid DNA to get anything higher than an 8.5. Maybe if it had an Tegra 4 and better viewing angles it might have gotten a 9.3.
124. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
This phone came is coming out 8 months after the S3. It has a 1080p screen, over 2x the processing power, over 2x the gpu power, 5MP higher camera, bigger screen. The fact is that much has happend in ONLY 8 months. Put your expectations down phone hardware will soon hit its throttle like desktop and laptop hardware has, if you can't get over your expectations now its best for you to leave within the next few years.
