Sony Xperia Tablet Z Review

0. phoneArena 23 May 2013, 08:46 posted on

Sony somehow managed to make the thinnest and lightest Full HD 10-incher out there, and made the whole package waterproof at that. It is not easy to replicate Sony's achievement, as the Xperia Tablet Z also sports all bells and whistles we've come to expect from a modern day slate at a reasonable price, plus four 3D surround sound speakers, thus shaping it as arguably the best Android tablet around, on paper at least...

It's not a 10, though I feel it's the top tablet right now.

Flash support + better processor + tighter UI = 9.5
Flash support + better processor + tighter UI + lower price = 10

All said if I was looking for a 10 inch tablet this would be it.

Wow, this makes my iPad4 32gb look old! Screen on is not as good as my iPad, but it kicks ass in the rest of the specs. Love the fact that its waterproof/dustproof, ... makes me think about giving my iPad to the wifey and getting this one........

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 price is around Rs. Rs. 34490 - Rs.Rs. 38990

so i think Xperia Tablet Z price is fair
better display
better CPU and GPU
Slimmest and lightest 10” tablet
Waterproof and dustproof chassis
Four-speaker system with virtual surround modes

when one can buy the ipad 4 with retina display for Rs.45900 that too 32gb model......who the hell is going to buy this one at such a steep price and we all know itunes has much more apps that are suitable for 10 inch tablet than the play store

i know what you means but Xperia Tablet Z is android tablets, so i'm compare it with another android tablets.
and thats why PA said Xperia Tablet Z is "the best android tablet around"

you know why because Xperia Tablet Z has
great display with high brightness, vivid colors, and very good viewing angles.
Four-speaker system with virtual surround modes.
Slimmest and lightest 10” tablet (in other words the most comfortable 10" tablet to use).
water and dust resistant (so you can take it virtually anywhere)
great performance (beats Nexus 10 on benchmark) and have better battery life even with smaler battery.
Nexus up to 9 h (multimedia) vs Xperia Tablet Z up to 10 h (multimedia)

with all the good things you have i think the price is fair enough

it looks like u r a sony fan?? and yeaa $500 in the US for wifi version and more than $800 for 3G one in india......how can u even justify the price?

because other android 10'' tablet 3G version like Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 with lower specs than Xperia Tablet Z
can have price up to $700 in India

both in India or in the US i think the price is fair enough because until this day you can't find any other 10'' tablet with same feature like Xperia Tablet Z

if you can show me other tablet that have better specs or at least have the same specs like Xperia Tablet Z but with lower price point,
i'll agree with you that Xperia Tablet Z is overpriced

I hope my explanation is enough to show you why I say the price is fair

Throw a Snapdragon 600/800 in there and it would have been a must buy for me. How is the screen compared to other high res tabs like the Infinty, iPad, Nexus 10?

Snapdragon 600 is the same as the S4 PRO. Even the model numbers are basically the same. 600 has an extra 'T'. 600 just has a higher recommended clock speed. Everything else is the same. 800 is not really suited for phones, but TVs and laptops.

PA has one of the worst review, i mean it seems like it took them 10 mins to review this tablet and gave it a 9. I just saw GSMarena review on this, and battery life was on par with the high end cell phones, and the speaker was not very loud. If a huge tablets battery life is worst then some cell phones, and speaker being not as loud as cell phones, then it does not deserve a 9. The only thing going for it is has good specs and a nice design and of course the waterproof feature because the sony fanboys plans to swimm with their tablets to?

Yes, of course. Since get ting Sony's waterproof devices made my baths a lot more enjoyable. Speakers on waterproof devices is always not the best. Battery life is excellent, and no concern or whatsoever. This is the best tablet in the world. Unmatched by any other tablet known to mankind. After submerging waterproof devices it will cause the loudspeakers to slightly 'lower their voice' due to a high tech protective layer formed to keep the water out. The layer evaporates after half an hour. No problem. Have you seen any other tablet fulfilling every single request you have for a tablet? Pa should be renamed to sa, Samsungarena. Samsung phones, which are totally useless and made of cheap hardware, gets 10 while the Sony and Nokia, the two companies that actually gives us good quality phones, gets 8 or something. No offence to phonearena, but my friend actually aasked if pa is under Samsung. Check out GSM arena. Samsung phones are rated 5-7 and Sony phones get 8.5+.

I'm using the Japanese S-03E, which packs 32GB with LTE in white. Seems mostly the same, but there are DoCoMo apps, the (imo) superior AOSP browser, extra system apps (such as full size calc) and some different icons (mainly on small apps). Plus it has a pullout 1seg antenna. The STAMINA mode is oddly missing (standard Android power saving is available) and the JP XPERIA keyboard has downloadable skins. For most part I'll say the JP one is better.
To clarify on the speakers, some equalization and tuning is needed but they can sound surprisingly good. They are however NOT quadraphonic, they are stereo speakers with two outlets each to reduce the likelyhood of a speaker being obscured. Another nice touch is how they automatically reverse the stero placement if you rotate it upside-down.
Any curious about battery life, it's been running for 8.5 hours on HSPA/HSPA+, with 4.5hrs so far of screen ontime and a lot of web browsing, app downloafing, IM, some music playing and stuff throughout and is at 23%. Isn't bad for such a skinny 6,000mAh cell, honestly - I can extrapolate it'll last 6+~10h under more strenuous usage. Note that it charges much faster on the charging cradle/dock, apparently the MicroUSB port only delivers 500mAh. The cradle charges it in about 4h.
