Samsung I7110 Preview

Just like the G810 and the INNOV8, the I7110 also runs Symbian S60, made popular by the countless Nokia smartphones. Here, we have the OS’s 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2, seen as well in the top Finnish model, the N96. Samsung has added its own graphic themes, so you can change the style of the interface to be similar to its other models. Naturally, the changes are only skin deep and at its core it remains the typical S60 smartphone, which is not a bad thing at all.
As we’ve found in previous S60 reviews we have an excellent phonebook with multiple fields, and the I7110 adds a large picture on an incoming call. Message-wise there are more than enough extras and a very good organizer as well. For quite some time the web browser has been one of the best, although it is a few steps behind the leaders (Safari and Opera Mobile) in user-friendliness, it is still very pleasant, even for daily use.
As a whole the I7110 performs well, but we couldn’t resist checking out how the camera does. Its interface is far from colorful, but on the other hand offers a lot of options. Everything that is present in the INNOV8 is also present here, including the Smile and Blink Detection, so to make sure that there aren’t any sleeping people in your shots.
Similar to the OMNIA and the INNOV8, the I7110 has the potential to be a really good multimedia player. The common thing between the three smartphones is the DivX file support. This means that you’ll be able to play videos downloaded from the internet without the need to convert them. However, there are a few details here that need to be clarified. For example, the videos must have a maximum width of 640 pixels and not be in XviD format, since it is unsupported. For music playback, you have the standard S60 player, and via the FM transmitter you’ll be able to enjoy your favorite songs through a stereo or a radio.
This is our preview based on a prototype unit, expect the review soon.
