Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Apple iPhone 5

0. phoneArena 27 Mar 2013, 09:09 posted on

Both Apple and Samsung produce wonderful products. Let's take, for example, the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5! Both are amazing smartphones with their own strengths and weaknesses. Obviously, neither can claim to be better than the other, but if we look closely, we can identify the areas where one has an advantage over the other and vice versa. Surprise, surprise - that's exactly what we'll do right now...

I love how almost every VS that Ray does including the iPhone never has a clear winner "All depends on if your nerdy or techy or just have class" would it kill you to just declare a winner?

Spec wise the S4 is king. If only it didn't look like it was built by Fisher Price.

Yeah because the iPhone is built by masters who don't care about using the same design for 7 years, gets easily damage whether using glass or metal, don't mind the phone having HUGE Bezel.
Yeah great design LOL

Hahaha... I got to the bit about the screens and realised who was doing the comparison..... Scrolled up to see I was correct. Nice one Ray s.....a 4" 320ppi LCD wins a 5" 441ppi 1080p super amoled display anyday (riiiiiight).

Even if the S4 has 120ppi more, it has 2/3 the amount of sub pixels, and the fact that it's an AMOLED display means it's alot dimmer and colors aren't as natural.

No, Samsung has a new diamond pixel arrangement that has all 3 subpixels.

It is Pentile, but it's not always about whether it's Pentile or RGB, it's about how the subpixels are laid out; and diamond Pentile is superior to the older Pentile in every way.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/261075-s4-has-horrible-pentile-matrix-display-8.html

Scroll down to the second comment on that page comparing the new Pentile layout to the old layout. The Diamond Pentile layout is much more uniform than the older layout.

Also, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Samsung threw in an extra green subpixel so every pixel does have 3 subpixels. The point of Pentile is to remove some of the blue subpixels because the blue ones are the most harmful to the display.

I just can't agree with the iPhone having an air of sophistication as long as it has that grade school home button. All the home button does is take up a tremendous amount of space that can be allocated towards the screen or making the phone shorter. In comparison, look at how much smaller the bezel on the S4 is because the home button has much less height to it. The home button on the iPhone needs to go or be replaced with something more ergonomic.

Seriously.. if you need an OS that you don't want to or can't tinker with then go with the iPhone? Really? I know several people that have ZERO knowledge of phones and enjoy their Android just fine. You CAN CAN CAN get in there and tweak things, but you don't have to.

Also.. how is the iPhone the best looking device in the industry? it's BORING! Same thing over and over and over. When is PA going to start bagging on the outdated and rehashed design? Yes it works.. but it's time for a refresh.

Unless you're an iPhone groupie I really can't see why anyone would want one, especially when it comes time to add music/files to the phone. talk about PAINFUL. Android is much much better in that regard.

I'm also tired of the talk about build materials. There is nothing wrong with Sammy's "cheap" plastic. I LOVE my Note2. I don't need or want it to be unibody and all aluminum that scratches. I LIKE the plastic back. I do wish it had an HTC like soft coating on the plastic, but really.. it's not bad at all.

To me.. there is ZERO reason to even look at the iPhone. My daughters want phones this summer.. You can BET they'll be getting GS4 or GS5's.

for you there are 0 reasons, for me there are many reasons why i like ios.
For example I play games on my devices and the library of games for the ios ecosystem is much better than android.
When it comes to tablets the browsing experience on android devices is very laggy, that's right they lagg, even after all these years that android has been around.
What about the amount of tablet optimized apps? Almost non existent on android devices.
I stream movies online and I also use grooveshark for music, the last time I downloaded something was like 3 years ago, live streaming is the way to go nowedays but still I can download movies and torentz on my ipad, its possible and yeasy.
What I am trying to say is that on my ipad I can do everything that can be done on a android device, except having the widgets.I just do them in a different way.
But how I am supposed to play the latest games and have the latest apps if they simply dont exist on Android?

I have an iPhone 5 and I'm within my trial period on AT&T. Reviews like this tend to downplay differences, but it does fit close to my thought process. I came from the HTC One X, and I like both Android and iOS for different reasons. I can return my iPhone and get an SIII and a $100 refund, get a Note II for equal cash, or keep the iPhone.

To me, the big strengths for the iPhone are facetime with my family, camera, and battery life. You could probably add in app polish to that too.
For Android, I liked the additional screen size, SD card, and replaceable base apps. However, I tended to get OCD with customizations and never left it alone...

I've been considering switching to a different phone almost daily but I always wonder what I'll end up missing if I go back to Android...

"Obviously, neither can claim to be better than the other"
Because there is no need to CLAIM, the SGS4 IS BETTER.

I admit that the s3 and the s4 are both better than the iPhone 5 but only because of the screen size.
When apple releases a bigger iPhone I will never buy a Samsung device again.i am currently a galaxy s3 owner and I also own an ipad.
The amount of apps and specialy games released for the ios is huge compared to android.
Just recently I heard that XCOM enemy unknown and final fantasy 5 will be released for IOS, plus games like walking dead, final fantasy 4, soul calibur, back to the future and imaginarium are to die for....
Too many exclusive apps for the ios, and I am not lying.
