Samsung Galaxy S III vs Sony Xperia S
Currently, the Samsung Galaxy S III is much better positioned as far as software goes, because it's running Android 4 ICS out of the box. Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia S is still rocking Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is waiting for an update to ICS, which should come very soon.
Right now, however, the GS III is much more fluid than the Xperia S, and most of the apps perform visibly better as well. All in all, TouchWiz Nature UX on the Galaxy S III and TimeScape UI on the Xperia S are quite different when it comes to their visuals, but the core functionality concepts are basically the same – homescreen pages, widgets, context menus, etc., etc. Honestly, we like them both, and the only thing that's troubling us right now is the Xperia's laggy performance. We sincerely hope that this will get fixed once the ICS update arrives.
We've come to the conclusion that whether a certain phone will be comfortable to type with depends on a number of things, not just its screen size. Of course, screen size is important too – that's the main reason why typing on the GS III's portrait keyboard is considerably easier than on the one of the Xperia S. When you're typing in landscape view, however, there's hardly any difference between the two, as the Xperia S manages to provide a very well-made keyboard design.
The ICS browser was a huge step forward from what we had in Gingerbread. In addition to this, Samsung has always put effort into enhancing the Android browser and improving it even further. By now it should be clear to you that the GS III has a wonderful browsing experience, while the Xperia S, unfortunately, is quite poor in this respect, due to its laggy browser. Of course, you can always try to fix that by installing a third-party browser like Opera Mobile, for example, but this kind of stuff comes to show you that there's still quite a bit of work ahead of Sony. Naturally, Flash Player is supported on both handsets.
Processor and memory:
One of the key features of the international Galaxy S III is the quad-core Exynos love. Unfortunately, it's expected that the U.S. versions of the phone will come with a dual-core Qualcomm chipset, because of the quad-core CPU's incompatibility with LTE.
Meanwhile, LTE or not LTE, the Xperia S comes with a dual-core Snapdragon, clocked at 1.5 GHz, which isn't bad. The international GS III will have an edge in performance, but hardware-wise, the Xperia S is not bad either. It's only the software that's holding it back now.
|Quadrant Standard||AnTuTu||NenaMark 2|
|Samsung Galaxy S III||5335||12016||58,6|
|Sony Xperia S||3206||6595||37,5|
Their makers have been generous when it comes to RAM as well – both the Galaxy S III and Xperia S have 1 GB RAM, which is more than enough at this point.
The GS III comes in 16, 32 and 64 GB flavors, which is supplemented with a microSD slot for cards of up to 64 GB. Sony's product, on the other hand, comes with 32 GB, and that's that – no other storage options, no microSD expansions.

Eww!!! Fugly xperia s!!! why PA!! WHY!!!

Now let us see next how the gx can perform.
The xperia s is total s***.

Yeah!! I cant take it!! xperia s should rate below 8 because of the s*** design~~~

hey shut the f**k up boy!close your f***ing mouth.

I was like lmao when the SGS III failed in the drop test agains't the iFault 5 (apple s**t) and yeah, the SGS III f**ked up, the display was totally shattered, and the battery with the micro SD came outta the back cover, all came a parts... while in the previous drop test with SGS II VS ifault 4s, the SGS II won the test while the iFault 4s got broken, the front and the rear glass, and damn!!!
so the SGS III strength is Zer0 compare it to the Xperia S or the other Xperia products. the Xperia S is a high f**king end smartphone and the SGS III only make itself special with the QUAD CORE CPU, no further, but despite the DUAL CORE that was built-in the Xperia S u may go check its specs before u talk whatever.
so u better have some knowledge about something than keep saying gibberish!!!

Have you SEEN the s3, now that, that is 'fugly' I actually much prefer the xperia s design to that, i'm surprised samsung havent included half an apple on the back of the s3 too, since they copied siri, seriously the s3 was a let down..
15. 09wbd03516 (banned) (Posts: 140; Member since: 30 May 2012)
xperia s is fuglier~~ samsung never disappoint me right after may 3~ and it was the sexiest phone ever~ sony is the one who need to take design lesson frm sammy~ and everybody wil gonna deny u for that~ here's your big thumb down hater!!
19. Tjey007 (Posts: 86; Member since: 22 May 2012)
honestly S3 is the best one right now in the market and m a samsung fan but when you talk about the design and looks then i will say Sony is way better than samsung...just see this two phones back side...vast difference...watch out for xperia acro s..sure it will beat the S2.
16. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Sony fanboy getting mad. lol
Well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I also think that the Xperia S looks better than the S3 but specs wise, it just can't compete. Gotta wait for the GX.
Another "Copied siri/apple" argument from a Samsung hater. As you already know, voice command already exist on Android well before Siri. Samsung just upgraded the 'not-so-good' Vlingo to its own S-Voice.
99. iBoss (Posts: 8; Member since: 10 Nov 2012)
well, im an iphone hater and i really hate a limited featured phones cuz u'd feel like a disable person, u have the device but u can't enjoy its features, and jailbreak my ass! its bulls**t, android phones are greater even without being rooted, and u can widely enjoy its fun apps, unlike for the limited crap of using the Apple ifault phone... and just imagine when u have a rooted android device , u'd feel u're the developper himself or like a BOSS with all the privileges of an Admin!
101. iBoss (Posts: 8; Member since: 10 Nov 2012)
lets talk more as a teamwork, and as a a android users, forget about sony or samsung haters, this is a crap! i really hate apple low outcome, but i love all the android smartphones, tablets and every freaking device came with that great OS. Nokia is a crap too, despite some of its beautifully designed phones.
to be honest, HTC, LG, HUWAEII, Sony, Samsung, Motorola, all of them, are one family because they're working on the same platform :)
so we gotta love'em all despite the huge differences of design and specs amongst all of these competitive brands!
20. MEeee (Posts: 269; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
"Voice Talk" from Vlingo existed in Galaxy S2. Galaxy S2 was released before iPhone 4S. Therefore, Apple stole the idea from Samsung and made weak minded people think that Apple is first to come up with everything.
22. hosam (Posts: 11; Member since: 01 Apr 2012)
Lets say that design of a mobile is something for its user. A phone should be compared with its performance. Right now the GS3 is a pathetic phone compared with the Xperia, because although the Xperia doesn't run ICS and the GS3 does, the difference in performance is not so big. When Xperia gets ICS and may even defeat the GS3 in some of its performance sides. Don't be forgetting the price of a GS3 and the price of a Xperia s.
25. SleepingOz (unregistered)
ROFL! Nice one! xD
Seriously dude, do some research before posting comment like this.
28. hosam (Posts: 11; Member since: 01 Apr 2012)
I may have bad news for you but I always do research and especially in these subjects. So i don't think someone like you can teach me what I must and must not understand. But if I am wrong, please be useful and post a link or so that proves my info may not be reliable.
31. SleepingOz (unregistered)
If you've really done some research as you said, you'd probably already know what you wrote is stupid and nonsensical. Indeed, no surprise from an in denial fanboy. I won't waste my time trying to explain to you the differences between the crappy S3 and the Quad-Core Exynos. 'Cause I'm pretty sure, no matter how hard I'll try, you'll still be in denial.
But well, Google is your friend, use it wisely.
34. Aaron_R96 (Posts: 198; Member since: 22 Jan 2012)
you really like calling people fanboy's and haters don't you? how extremely witty of you... :)
35. cepcamba (Posts: 717; Member since: 27 Feb 2012)
Why did you change your picture? I miss the other Tiger! :p
38. hosam (Posts: 11; Member since: 01 Apr 2012)
Again this is a reply, which in my eyes, proofs the fact of your limited information. And on the other side, this 'denial fanboy' doesn't ask from you to go and EXPLAIN to him what " the differences are between the crappy S3 and the Quad-Core Exynos" and the Xperia s. So you don't have to worry about that any more :)
60. dax0330 (Posts: 23; Member since: 01 Jun 2012)
but seriously man, i have to agree with them. The GS3 has a number of advantages over xperia S spec-wise, the screen, processor, OS installed. design is debatable i would say. but for me who own a sony tv and laptop i would go for the xperia s.
39. hosam (Posts: 11; Member since: 01 Apr 2012)
And another thing, I still haven't seen any links posted which proofs my info is wrong. So how can i be the one who, like you said "has really done some research, you'd probably already know what you wrote is stupid and nonsensical." If you, on the other hand, can't even support your own arguments? So you tell me, who is the "denial fanboy" now?
40. SleepingOz (unregistered)
OMG, seriously?! So you're the kind of stupid person who thinks he's always right, no matter what. Do you even know what's a S3 SoC? As I told you before, instead of losing your time trying to argue without any valid argument, go make some research, man. Google is your friend. =]
Or else well, keep on dreaming.
41. hosam (Posts: 11; Member since: 01 Apr 2012)
I'm not arguing with anyone. And i'm not "the kind of stupid person who thinks he's always right, no matter what" because I asked you about a link that proofs my info is wrong, twice. My first argument: Meanwhile, the Xperia S has a better camera (as far as photos go), as well as a competitive specs sheet, but it will take a good ICS update for it to be able to compete on the same level as the Galaxy S III (in this review). I know it says 'a good update' but it is something you can expect from a manufacture who designed a phone to compete with the toppers. Enough said to someone who is so pathetic, that he keeps calling people "denial fanboy" and "hater".
42. SleepingOz (unregistered)
better camera? Have you read the camera comparison yet?
Pathetic? Just don't take your own case for a generality man, your stupidity is pathetic. The XPERIA S will never be able to compete with the GSIII because of its crappy S3 SoC. Rather wait for the GX for a fair comparison. You have privileged access to internet, why don't you use it wisely to make some research?
Damn, I just can't stand ignorant people like you.
43. cepcamba (Posts: 717; Member since: 27 Feb 2012)
I understand how you feel :p This Sony guy is really funny :) Maybe he/she's just a kid. :p
48. SleepingOz (unregistered)
and for my new avatar, I find this one more "artistic". I was tired of the previous one also.
44. romeo1 (Posts: 241; Member since: 06 Jan 2012)
if you have made some pictures with both of them you would know wich one has a better camera.
the s3 isn't as crappy as you think it was just crappy in the gs2 and sensation but thats just because samsung and htc aren't that good in tweaking their software to get the most out of the hardware.
sony on the other hand does do that and that's why it's usually almost as good or better than the competition
like the arc s is in most of the common tasks faster than the gs2
46. kshell1 (Posts: 1143; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
Even I am a kid and understand that the SGS3 is by far the more superior than the Xperia S. The Exynos 4212 provides nearly 4X the strength of the s3 Soc of the Xperia S. Then we get to GPU which the SGS2's lower clocked Mali-400mp4 already destroyed the s3 soc's GPU which now since higher clocked in the SGS3 is far, far better.
62. romeo1 (Posts: 241; Member since: 06 Jan 2012)
Ofcourse the chipset of the gs3 is superior to the xperia s.
I was talking about the gs2 with the s3 chipset wich was crappy as well as the sensation but the s3 in the xperia s does a good job cause sony makes good use of the hardware by software tweaks.
and for the gs2 with the exynos 4210 with mali-400mp gpu also gets destroyed by the xperia s(with the s3 chipset) if you didn't know.
only with the 3d benchmark the gs2 was a little bit faster but that is only because the xperia s has a 720p screen and the gs2 has a wvga screen.
49. xMan123 (Posts: 1; Member since: 01 Jun 2012)
Dude are you a f**king idiot? Xperia does have a better camera and that argument he used comes from this review. So i think you didn't read this review at all xD. And the GX will have the same chipset as xperia s so that to is bulls**t you are shouting......
50. hosam (Posts: 11; Member since: 01 Apr 2012)
leave him man or else he will get suicidal xD
53. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Unlike you, I'm not stupid enough to do such silly things. As I told you previously, just don't take your own case for a generality, thanks. =]
52. SleepingOz (unregistered)
I have read it completely and I've also read the deeper Camera comparison(which you haven't read yet).
The XPERIA S produces better details that all! Colours are warmer and oversaturated, smoother macro, inferior indoor shots and blurry video.
And oh, sorry to disappoint you but the GX will come with a S4 not the crappy S3 used in the XPERIA S.
Talking about "f**king idiot"? How ironic is that?! HAHAHA! Perhaps, I'll give you the same advice as your ignorant friend, hosam; do some research before posting s**tty comments in order not to look stupid here.
54. Oxygen (Posts: 82; Member since: 29 Mar 2012)
You killed me with this one! lol
As an xs user, i know what you mean by "crappy s3".. It does lag quite often and it is a bit sluggish compared to my note.. but design wise, the xs is sexier imho..
For the better detailed photo, i guess it is due to the 12mp..
79. GoodGuy (Posts: 3; Member since: 11 Jun 2012)
Its strange u should say that coz I too have SXS and it is very snappy with no lags/freezes at all! Compared it with friends note and frankly it doesn't feel laggy/ sluggish, rather felt a bit smoother or at least at par.. I think you need to update the firmware on SXS.
91. faisalabdukunju (Posts: 1; Member since: 29 Jul 2012)
Dear, Sony Xperia is better when compare to SIII. Because this model is totally different when compared to any other smart phones. Sony introduce 12 MP camera for this Xperia S edition. Xperia is very fast when compare to SIII. I am using both phones. Samsung SIII simply look like same as old smart phone models. Xperia is very different and very sexy. Amazing glass light panel...like it....
51. jeraldjamescapao (Posts: 23; Member since: 17 May 2012)
Ok... I agree with you, Sony Xperia S's camera is VERYYYY nice! I rate it 10/10! :)
64. neon_wombat (Posts: 1; Member since: 03 Jun 2012)
I am a bit late commenting but I have to agree with the below user that your comment is coming off slightly absurd. The performance difference is actually huge if you look at the benchmark scores. ICS won't fill the gap. I can pretty much guarantee it since my gingerbread SGSII handedly beats the bench mark scores of the xperia - despite running gingerbread 2.3.6 as opposed to 2.3.7. Perhaps it is due to the greater amount of pixels that the xperia has, but the galaxy note is the same story. Furthermore, the Xperia S is running last years S3 processor which could not hold its own to the expnos 1.5 ghz or not in ANY of last years comparisons in bench marks or real life use. Infact any web browsing comparison between the note and the xperia s shows favor in the Note. I cannot imagine for the life of me why the x peria s would compete an against a quad core expnos when it is running the same dual core as previous generation phones.

The Xperia S is just....Sexy... The design is the best aspect....
4. kshell1 (Posts: 1143; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
The Xperia S was good when it first released but Sony released their first dual-core handset wayyyyy to late.
5. thethird92 (Posts: 10; Member since: 15 May 2012)
I like the GSIII for ICS and Xperia S for the camera..
6. Tjey007 (Posts: 86; Member since: 22 May 2012)

14. Tjey007 (Posts: 86; Member since: 22 May 2012)

If you have an iPhone then you can jailbreak
7. thethird92 (Posts: 10; Member since: 15 May 2012)
After all these comparisons between the GSIII and other high end phones. it makes me wanna think of an "overrated" status for GSIII. Don't know why, but this is just me. [+]
26. QWIKSTRIKE (Posts: 885; Member since: 09 Mar 2010)
See the Verge's SIII review and you may get the idea that you aren't the only one that feels this way
9. ryq24 (Posts: 507; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
xperia s looks old compared to galalxy s3. no contest.
10. dizmatt (Posts: 2; Member since: 30 May 2012)
well I like the SII and own the xperia S.
SIII seems to beat it in most respects. nice to see the xperia camera gets a decent mention here, as I think it's nearly as good as the iphone 4S camera.
what is shocking here though is the mention of the xperian battery life, it's awful
with moderate use it doesn't last the whole day (wifi and account sync active)
needs topping up at work and putting on over night, if not...no alarm in the morning!
Like the screen but I still think the AMOLED screen is better as I used to have a samsung wave I which had this excellent display.
also the BRAVIA display is one of the reasons that the xperia just eats through its battery reserve. I'm hoping ICS will sort a few things out, like how the screen behaves etc.
no SD card didn't bother me to start with, 32Gb is a fair amount, but 32 or 64 on the SIII with a SD card slot is excellent.
11. darac (Posts: 2156; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
so s3 wins only because of ICS?
come on, Ray, even i, a Sony supporter, will readily admit this is not even a contest - S3 kills it in processor, battery life, and memory department, and also, with the bigger screen, given the fact it's not a bigger phone - heck it's even lighter and slimmer.
Xperia only has a slightly better photos and hardware shutter key going for it.
17. Galaxys2...R (Posts: 46; Member since: 04 Oct 2011)
I had the xperia s and it got boring very quickly not to mention the sound qaulity was rubbish, the pre set eqaulizers like bass booster was more like flat booster, I mean where did the bass go and the volume output was awful. After a while the touch sensitive buttons annoyed me. The cameras constant trying to auto focus led me to miss alot of shots i wanted to take which really peed me off and generally after 4 weeks of havign it i have it to my sister and now just waiting for my galaxy s 3.
18. Galaxys2...R (Posts: 46; Member since: 04 Oct 2011)
oh and the battery life of the xperia s wasnt that great either
21. maherk (Posts: 1028; Member since: 10 Feb 2012)
I dont understand why people over here wanna suck up for a brand over the other, its a matter of choice and taste fgs!! In the last 4 months, i ve had the s2, note, xpeeia s, and now the one x. For me the best design out of the 4 is xperia s, sexy as fluck! Aa for the screen, its true the xperia has the highest ppi in the market, still one x and amoled screens shines out next to it, the limitations of bravia engine kills it! As for the battery, it sucks, had to charge it 3 times a day! And not to mention how the video player lacks support for many type files. Best design and cam goes for xperia s imo, other than that the 1 year old s2 beats it. As whose the better its like this one x >g note > s2> xperia s. And it might change in a wewk or so, cuz am getting s3 in the next 2 days. Dont lock urself to one brand, cuz ur the one whose missing out, in other words stop being sheeps!
23. f1r3z0r (Posts: 82; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
everyone forgot what is the reason of having a phone? the phone is made for make phone calls and text. If you want to take picture buy a camera, if you want to listen musics buy MP3 player, if you want watch movies buy a DVD or BLUE RAY, etc do not expect to have everything in one device, especially a cellphone or now we called them SMARTPHONE...anyway SAMSUNG GSII still the best so far
27. kshell1 (Posts: 1143; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
decent blue ray=$100-200
Decent TV to use with dvd/blue ray=$600-900
I can save an ass load of cash by buying a smartphone (a decent one at that for a bit over $400 (Galaxy nexus or Sgs2) or go crazy and buy a sgs3.
