Samsung Galaxy S III vs Sony Xperia S
0. phoneArena 30 May 2012, 07:18 posted on
Sony's lineup of Android phones has been picking up pace recently, but now with the Xperia S and its buddies, the P and U, the company is hoping to finally reclaim that title of a leading phone manufacturer. However, for such a thing to happen, Sony's Xperia S will have to win quite a few tough fights – like the one against the Galaxy S III, which, as we know, is not an opponent to mess with...

I used to think the same way....it's a wrong approach.
Why should I buy all these devices when I can have all these features in one? I've got N8 and you know what? Since I got it I've never ever again used my point-and-shoot camera when I get out. It delivers best navi solution (absolutely free!!), superb sound quality (I have got an iRiver mp player but I stopped using it a while ago) and I don't have to caryy netbook with me when I want to use an internet.
It is called miniaturization and progress for a reason. If someone wants a dedicated camera, or dvd player or whateva, you name it, he will buy it. But for 95% users and for most of the times modern smartphone is good enough to replace mentioned above devices.

I don't get your complains guys. S III is a superb phone. Doesn't look "premium" but it is a high-high-end. It has everything what you could possibly need or want. But, like always, it's not enough. More, more, more. Truth is it's the most powerful phone out there, like it or not (save for One X for htc fans).
what the heck...you wanna octa core, 1080p, 30 mpx camera and nano-liquid-super-duper tech? wait few years.

you guy maybe forget very important thing. the price. xperia s is much cheaper (at least at the moment) about 200 $ and according to this i think xperia s is more deserved to be win. i have a xperia s for about 3 mounth and i am very pleased by it,no laggy, and not even a diffrence in compare to quad core(htc one x as i tested)in usage(not benchmarks) and a very good camera, call quality, sound quality, and its reality display and a way better design and look.so why to paid too much more for s3?

Ive read several comments sying that battery life is really bad, what are your thoughts on that??
68. Aaron_R96 (Posts: 198; Member since: 22 Jan 2012)
as far as ive found its about the same as any other android device, particularly of the mid-high end devices on the market, and easily lasts a day, even with heavy usage (turning the screen brightness to about half) my XS tends to last roughly 18hours on one charge
78. GoodGuy (Posts: 3; Member since: 11 Jun 2012)
Battery life on SXS lasts 1.5 to 2 days on single charge with moderate use!.. there are many sony apps which eat up battery fast on standby and hence the comments.. to fix this update those apps or Update to latest firmware (.75/.76) or wait for ICS.

SGS III Is better choice and you only found one reason and that's ICS OS?!
So whats the point of all those photos, benchmarks more importantly what's the point of all those conclusions and opinions in every section of this article?!
You could say that right after the topic and finish it in only 1 line, maybe 1.5 lines.
And not a god damn word on features like Smart Stay?!
Seriously guys do something about your miserable fails and errors that are easy to spot in PhoneArena now days...
But thanks for photos they were nice as always.

said it before, but I'll repeat myself.
the xperia S has a better camera than is represented here I think.
maybe the iphone4S camera is better but not by a huge margin

This is a kind of unfair comparison, I mean the Xperia S is a high mid-range phone and yes it has some excellent features. But the GSIII is like high high-range phone with again excellent features and it will smash the Xperia S in most categories. It would be better to wait when the Xperia Acro S or GX comes out and compare them instead. The XS would go up against the GSII or the GNexus but not the GSIII.

A bit of an unfair review for the Sony XS since it retails for almost half the price of the GSIII ($450 vs $800).
Still, nice to see the XS is able to put up a decent fight.

I think both phones are great.
SGS3 is the better performer due to newer/faster processor and OS.
Personally I think Xperia S is the better looking phone. The design is sexy. Both front and back panel looks great. The performance is not bad at all.
I don't need a Quadcore proc cause I think dual core is enough. And I prefer the phone with the better camera.
So I bought the Xperia S (since it's also significantly cheaper - $150).
But that's me :)
Some people obviously need to have the latest specs-phone

I bought the Samsung Galaxy SIII.
I prefer the memory card to be detachable, because I have many memory cards because in those cards I save my movies. Hehehe
Congrats to your Xperia S.. It's a nice phone also.. The camera is superb. ^^

Sorry for english if bad. As much I love korea technology, I have to say Sony has better phones to using because they have been with us for more than many years now. My friends would tell me, "Chang Min, why you have Sony? Why not Galaxy? It suck, don;t use that", but I let it be because I love the easy technology it brought for me. And it is choise of me.
Xperia is for me and for many people. I try to awake many of friends and some see the true words from me. They see light slowly. It take time.

Are you guys really comparing a last gen S3 processor vs a brand new Quad core? Comparison between the SIII and GX would be a much better match...

*facepalm* jesus look at all these comments.. sony and samsung fanboys... as much as delusional as apple fanboys..
82. ispeakevo (Posts: 2; Member since: 08 Jun 2012)
I wonder why a rounded phone at its edges mean, to so many, better design? I, for 1, think the squared designs, referred to as "sharp edges",(as if you are going to cut your hand) gives the phone a much better seamless look in contrast to its squared screen.. RJ

This phone is by far the best release by any manufacturer (US) to date...and im not a samsung fan...but i give my props when due..another Htc phone is being released again with much competition hanging around Vw and will probably go unrecognized due to being released at the same time as the GsIII on Vw....im talking about the incredible lte....the same thing happenedto the rezound on vw...good phone but released around serious competition amongst vw phones...razr...maxx...nexus....i will definately be picking up a gsIII and i will be looking at signal strength very closely

i just recently got xperia s &its really nice especially tht HD display....... am luving it!! :)
86. Djindawg (Posts: 2; Member since: 19 Jun 2012)
ahahhaa what a bias comment. thats not how u compare dude. i dont really like both phones, but s3 specs are better. i have both phones and iphones as well. *It's true that the glossy plastic of the Galaxy S III attracts quite a lot of fingerprints, but it's also true that the Xperia S, especially in its white form, is a handset that gets dirty very easily, so you may often have to take a minute to clean it up.
In terms of dimensions, both handsets are pretty much equal. We say that because even though the Xperia S is a bit smaller (after all, it has a smaller screen), it has more of a rectangular shape, whereas the Galaxy S III has rounded corners, which makes it feel more compact than it is.*
BIG NONSENSE ahahah! but whatever

that phrase shows how stupid the person is.

Phonearena puts Xperia S on the S3 in the images, and more interestingly they are both on there backs :D Its pretty clear what they means !!!

Just because i'm an xperia s owner does not mean i'll say volgur comments about Galaxy s3. That also implies with the Galaxy s3 owners. Although right now xperia s has ICS I like the Galaxy s3 better because xperia s battery life is poor and because galaxy s3 has a better user interface via touchWiz Natura UX and that camera UI. Other than that my xperia s is still a king. So no bad comments. Both phones are kings.
92. nsnk86 (Posts: 43; Member since: 18 Jun 2012)
i read the review & its really nice.... i am using Sony Xperia S since 2months & i have updated to ICS...... its really nice.... just luv the interface!! i dnt know y people are complaining abt the battery life for Xperia S.... before updating to ICS, i could easily get batt life for 1 full day with 3g internet running full time..... after updating to ICS i could get for lyk 1&half days with 3g usage (browsing, facebook, twitter), little bit of games like temple run, riptide.... &am really happy...... i hv used S3 but i would not comment coz i dint use completely lyk am dng with Xperia S..... &am vry satisfied with my fone!! :)

Hey I give 10 to Sony Xperia s because it was released back in February 2012 where as Samsung Galaxy SIII is just released recently that's Y I give SIII 8 and Sony 10 ratings :)

well, why the hell u're cursing each other over a smartphone design!!!!
honestly, the SGS II is much more better and way stronger than the SGS III.
and also to be honest, the Sony Xperia S looks so hot and beautifully and amazingly designed, and so the SGS III
but my choice goes to Sony Xperia S because it's more unique while the Samsung keeps working on the same design standars and similarity as well as for the smasung duos, and mini sIII and other that looked the same!!
But , the Xperia S has It's unique design amongst all the other Sony Xperia smartphones.

I have both the Xperia s and the galaxy s3 and in my experience the Xperia s puts the s3 to shame in almost every way even though it only runs a dual core 1.5 vs the s3 quad core. The design of the Xperia s feels much better the s3 looks and feels plastic and cheep. But at the end of the it comes down to personal prefferance. Do you want a big shiny lump of plastic....or a sleek sophisticated arsenal of android power.
