Samsung Galaxy S III vs HTC One X

0. phoneArena 16 May 2012, 08:15 posted on

The HTC One X was the first new-generation Android smartphone to come out this year. It introduced us to a new kind of Android experience – one powered by an ultra-fast quad-core processor. With the recent introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S III, though, things are going to get much more interesting. Take a deep breath, people, as what follows is the most epic Android clash for the first half of the year – the Samsung Galaxy S III is facing the HTC One X!...

This is a discussion for a review. To read the whole review, click here

if samsung can sell tens of millions with an average design, imagine how many more millions they can sell with a stunning design and quality material... more often than not, i dont understand the thinking of manufacturers, seems that they dont listen to consumers

Sorry I will wait for a dog fight on Phone dog for a real fair comparison. Ray is just feeding you SG3 people what you want to hear. I am not discrediting the phone just the messenger. It may very well be better but I need to go where the reviews are consistent and fair, as well as honest!
Not to mention Samsung's always having poor radios, who wants a phone that can't hold a signal or track gps wise.

Not to mention he doesn't have his basic facts straight such as the amount of memory available for S3 (16GB, 32Gb and 64GB) as well as the fact that the S3 comes with almost all video player formats while One X comes with more limited formats, I love HTC devices but I'd prefer a more detailed and accurate review, not someone blatantly favoring one over the other but giving me facts and actual useful information than glossing over the details and putting alot of their personal opinion.

Agreed, I really want the best phone for my money that works. I want a phone that makes phone calls rather than be a multimedia device. If I wanted a MM device phone I could get an Iproduct. lol

The One X got rave reviews from most sites. Android central gave the battery a thumbs up, and test the battery while streaming music all day answering emails and making phone calls. They are now doing real world battery test to see how the battery holds up. That's the basis for a true review, not the "in my opinion review" because opinions are not facts, and usually are biased to the users preference...

I wish I can pick and choose the feature from both phones to make into one phone myself.
From Samsung: performance, keyboard layout, battery life
From HTC: camera, design, UI, Beats
Display can from either, because they are probably both look sexy as hell :P

What would you guys pick?

Sgs3, think of it in the long run, it will have a model for 64gb memory+64gb microsd, plus if you don't like the oversaturation of the screen it has 5 screen modes. faster UI, and so much more

Most phones are upgradeable, it's just the manufacturers aren't good enough to keep up with it. If the Desire C could run ICS, then pretty much all Android devices should be able to run ICS.

Even is all else were equal, the one thing no one mentions, and it is a huge one for me, is the removable battery on the GS3. I'm a freak about running out of battery and often carry a spare with me for my EVO 3D. The wireless charging option, while charging a second battery on the SG3 is a feature I haven't seen since way back on an old Nokia. So simple, yet so perfect. Grab your charged phone and spare battery from the cradle and go! Doesn't sound like it will be released until Sept, though aftermarket may offer sooner?

i think this is the first time PA compliment samsung UX :) but by the looks of it samsung really seems to get the top of the android phones though the built and the looks are so.. so.. but features and utilizing its quad-core usability makes it much better choice though having a one x is not a shame at all for it compensates with a sturdy built and damn good-looking materials.s III really won my heart hmm.. im just wondering lg seems to be the last one to release their flagship would this mean that they really gearing up?

Well, this review is interesting. I don't see why the S3 wins this, I think they are on par. In my opinion the screen and the build quality of the One X is better, on the other side they say that the S3 is more fluid and it seems like it has the better camera. So once again it comes down to personal preferences which to choose.

as always...htc failed.
overdone sense and rubbish optimalization. they've learnt nothing from the past.
sensation was way behind s II so its younger brother.
laggs on a phone with quad core cpu??
23 fps in 1080p??
camera is a crap. just like before (comparing to what htc promised, image chip, blablabla)
freezing and chopping during web paging?
COME ON!
Looks better but that's his only advantage over s III.

i pretty much agree with this comparison. i'm not a big fan of either of these phone's design's but the S III definitely carries away the crown for everything else. i actually prefer the S III's AMOLED panel because high contrast levels matter to me more than brightness. i was surprised at how much better the S III was in the camera department. the only other phone i can think of that could possibly challenge the S III for the throne anytime soon is the upcoming Droid Razr MAXX HD.

Hallo Ray S. I saw your review of the one X from Htc.
From the first second you said that you didn't like the keyboard and the browser.
I understand that the keyboard is not one of your taste. But why should you express your personal opinion instead of just being objective. Do you know that you are affecting people's opinions? A review should just state the facts and not opinions. Second thing, do you really understand why the Htc browser does this effect (on zooming) and why? You 're saying in this comparison that since they both are High-res phones you can still read the whole text. Well that is not totally irrelevant but it shows that you haven't really used an Htc, only for your reviews! The browser on the Htc can focus almost to a single word. Is there any other browser that can do such a thing? So again, if You don't like it that is fine with me, but don't let your reviews look biased! By the way i own a galaxy s2 and i am not an htc fanboy, but i can tell what is right...

yea, my SGS1 can zoom in until the words are massive. what is your point? in your whole post, i didnt find one.

All I hear is "I refuse to believe anything that negates my overly positive view of HTC, regardless of truth"

And.. how can you "tell what is right" when you have not held either device in your hands? HOW do you know better than the person that is physically reviewing both devices.. in his hand?

well ,if the person has been shown to be overly biased against HTC devices , i think that constitutes as a reason to doubt the reviewers credibility.
you who have never held either phone in Your hand cannot say everything that has been said about both devices is purely unswayed by any opinion.
i thought the one x and galaxy s3 were pretty evenly matched. (me looking at reviews of both phones from multiple sites)

Yes, you didn't cause you can't read! You 're just 'seing' the words don't read them.
So, per paragraph to make it easier for you...
1. The text when pinching to zoom on the htc wraps up to a word, not only rows! The browser on my s2 doesn't do that, neither your s1 does!!!
2. I don't own one but how do you know that i haven't held the one x?
3. I didn't say that i know better, I just pointed a couple of things which i noticed on Ray's reviews and you don't need to be a specialist for that.
Got it now or still need time?

which makes you twice as wrong :)

1) I use opera browser which sure as heck word wraps highly zoomed.
2) because very few people have. I've held the OneS which is similar, but its still not the OneX.
3) Ray's reviews have been more fair than not for a good little while now. Just because he says something you dont agree with doesnt make him "biased against HTC". Getting offended by him disagreeing with your thoughts actually makes you biased.

When there is something new to get... I'll get it. Dont you worry.

still can't read, right?
1. there is no other stock android browser that can wrap text like htc's.
2. here in germany you can test the one series since a month now in any almost shop, so it's not just a few that can, at least in germany.
3. i am not saying that GS 3 isn't a better phone than the one x. all i am saying is that Ray's review isn't that objective because he is canceling in advantage that the one x might have...

just read!

Samsung fans hate Apple fanboys for butt-kissing Apple for whatever they come up with, no matter how ridiculous or just heavily marketed it is but after the SGS 3 release, just realized that they aren't so different after all.

All praises for an uninspiring handset with an uninspiring UI with a last generation
display--has nothing going for it except a non-significantly faster processor which doesn't even translate to a difference in everyday usage.

People nit pick about the removable battery and unexpandable storage on the One X but when was the last time you removed your handset's battery and in today's age of cloud storage, you can virtually never run out of storage options. 32GB of memory is mainstream. I doubt it if anyone's willing to ditch their iPod's (and other media players for that matter) should they buy an SGS 3.

I guess Samsung is really the new Apple. Well, at least the fans are. :-p

They put more effort into design, using more expensive materials. The battery isn't removable, there isn't a microSD slot. Plus, they don't really make budget-oriented handsets. Overall, their design philosophy seems to be closer to Apple's. Samsung, on the other hand, is more open towards the typical Android user, including all the options they love like expandable storage, removable batteries, and makes a full range of devices, so that there's an option for everyone.
