Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 Preview
The 8 MP camera module on the back of the Mega 6.3 sports an adjacent LED flash, and is joined by a 1.9 MP unit at the front, capable of HD video recording.
The camera app offers the newest interface from Samsung, with Best Photo, Drama and HDR modes, as well as a variety of scenes and color effects for your pics and videos. You can see some samples below, with the caveat that these are from a unit where the software algorithms are a few steps away from final.

Video is recorded with 1920x1080 definition at 30 fps, and the Nature UX 2.0 has the shutter key as well as the recording button on one and the same screen, speeding up capture.

built-in editing option with a rich set of features, and the canvas is really conducive to drawing.
The music player sports the usual abundance of functionality, with a number of equalizer presets, surround sound modes, and the useful Smart Volume and Adapt Sound techs that keep the strength at a predetermined level and offer personalized sound settings for each user. The loudspeaker is pretty strong and with clear and full enough sound.
The phone played every format thrown at it, up to Full HD definition, and the player supports subtitles, live zooming, and a number of sharing options, as well as the Pop Up Play function that detaches the video windows and floats it above whatever you are doing with the interface underneath.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 design and weight is an achievement for such an enormous screen size and giant 3200 mAh battery pack. The display panel actually makes it a great phone for browsing the web, watching videos, reading, editing pics and getting things done with the multi-window mode, due to sheer diagonal.
As for calling, carrying around and mere handling – not so great, bordering on masochism, especially in pant pockets rather than a purse. There is just no easy way to grip the phone in your palm, despite the svelte 8mm waistline, and most of the time it will be occupying both of your hands, even for simple procedures like pressing the back key underneath the screen. If you consider the phone to be more of a microtablet with calling functions, rather than a traditional phone, then you'll spare yourself a lot of initial confusion.
Samsung is apparently not aiming the Mega 6.3 for the mainstream user, and for those who want the largest screen in the most compact package aimed at media consumption, this will be it, and we'll wait for the final unit polish and the first sales numbers before we pass a verdict.

OMG!!! It's huge! hahaha I wonder how will it fit in my jeans... Why Samsung ditched the 1080p screen por this phone? That would have been awesome!
9. Diego! (Posts: 508; Member since: 15 Jun 2009)
Yeah but still! It would have been a killer device with the same specs as the S4 :D But I know they are saving that for Note III
56. timepilot84 (Posts: 97; Member since: 16 Aug 2012)
There was a report of a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mega appearing in the spec sheet for some of Samsung's new software packages...
63. RORYREVOLUTION (Posts: 3042; Member since: 12 Jan 2010)
Exactly. Why would they throw in all of their high end, best specs on a device that isn't a Galaxy S or Note flagship device?
I mean, if this did have a 1080p display and the 13mp camera, why would you need to wait for the Note 3? lol
PS I never thought id see a device that made my Note 2 look small haha
43. shahulvm (Posts: 118; Member since: 01 Apr 2012)
They are testing the market with this screen size so that they can size note 3 screen accordingly....
Sammy wants to capture the sales in every screen size possible
31. Dorothy69 (banned) (Posts: 498; Member since: 21 May 2013)
The 1080p or better is being reserved for the Galaxy Note Trois.
Still, I wouldn't mind putting this beast in my basket!

720p huh pretty decent.. i wanna see this personally lol

Samsung is again trying another screen size . . . i hope they fail . . . i hate seeing people using these kind of devices in public(it looks awkward when answering a phone call) . . . trust me don't buy gadgets like this if you're using it daily . . it looks very very awkward . . .
23. Kurai (unregistered)
i hope they fail on the sales of this mega phone so they'll just stop . . it really looks awkward . . . really really awkward . . . and the next note is 5.9in? omg . . .
68. Doakie (Posts: 1322; Member since: 06 May 2009)
If you don't like it don't buy it. Stop trying to affect what other people buy. On top of that you must be pretty self centered to think your idea of what looks awkward should play into any adults mind.... The magic of becoming a grown up is to not care what children think, its great, and quite liberating. Except for the fact that you have to often remind children to stay in their bounds.

Let's say people are using pillows to call each other nowerdays. Pillows with a big S behind it. Why is Samsung putting so little effort to make its devices the best in the market like Xperia is doing with their Xperia Z? Samsung just floods the market with about 100 products per month, while spending very little effort in making each product unique and stand out in the public. Many of the products have software and hardware problems but Samsung just ignores them. Xperia is constantly upgrading its firmware, making sure that their phones don't run into any software issues. Screw you, Samsung!
29. SonyFindOneDroidple (Posts: 501; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Duhhh? Both Sony and Samsung are continuously addressing the issues of their devices.. Samsung recently updated gs4 and looking for software optimization tricks to manage internal memory.. Problems or issues will not leave this specific industry.
"Why is Samsung putting so little effort to make its devices the best in the market like Xperia is doing with their Xperia Z"
Kindly explain because galaxy s4 won Consumer Reports best smartphone titl. And galaxy note8.0 as the best tablet, and in many reviews-galaxy s4 and htc one stood out..
Samsung spent on marketing more than others. But dont forget Samsung spent on r&d more than others too.. Samsung is not one of the manufacturers that is only concerned with hardware, We are lucky to have them and LG for bringing software developments MORE than OTHERs.
Sony must be sad for having a stupid fan like you
69. skyguy7567 (Posts: 148; Member since: 17 Nov 2012)
Really? Samsung fans brag about the best features but in fact they are useless. They scold other devices for not having those 'useless' stuff which eats a huge portion of internal memory. Have you heard of 'Samsung devices fry SD cards'? Samsung devices all have no insulating materials near their card slots so they are subjected to constant heating of the CPU. Two of my friends had their SD cards fried, and both of them were S3. Samsung fans always point out other phone's tiny problems, like Xperia's bad viewing angles. WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD LOOK AT THE SCREEN AT AN ANGLE? That's one thing Sony realized and instead of putting huge effort in perfecting the viewing angles they turned their attention to actually making the device perfect. You guys always say 'Old TFT screen' but forgot about that S4's Super AMOLED screen has serious problem in the display. I'm not going into details as Phonearena had already covered that story. Would you rather want a previous-generation, safer screen than a falty and unsafe screen? Android Authority did a drop test of the iPhone 5 and the S4 at the exact same conditions and the S4's glass shattered, while the iPhone 5 survived with only a few scratches. Even the screen is cheap. Samsung is made of cheap and fake stuff! S voice is a total inconvenience for Samsung users. You can't delete it, yet it occupies storage space and is too easy to trigger. Press the home button slightly longer and it pops up, very inconvenient. Who wants physical buttons nowerdays? Samsung is still doing the dull traditional home button, instead of a new one that uses touch. The options and back button is super easy to trigger. The back button activates even if your palm starts to dig into the button slightly. Samsung just focuses in developing new useless features but ignores the basic needs of customers. GS4 DOESN"T EVEN HAVE A RADIO! Many elder people still buys smartphones, but many of them like to listen to the radio the traditional way. Buying the GS4 is a waste of their money. Samsung doesn't care about users. The Galaxy Ace 2 just received its first or second software updates while Xperia users constantly receive minor firmware updates to keep up with the market. 'Samsung spent a lot of time in marketing' Of course. Samsung spends a lot of time developing sly ways to cheat their customers. Phones go crazy after a few months of use. My friends can prove that. S2 plus, S3 mini, S3. They all moan about the overheating problem and hardware defects. Sony? 'Using the Xperia P for over a year. Great phone.' Xperia P is even cheaper than the S2 plus. Samsung = high price but low quality.
Apart from Samsung, the HTC one experiences the same heat problem after gaming. My Xperia Z consumes 15% every 45 minutes of very heavy 3D gaming but just goes up to about 37.5 degrees, 40 degrees in a hot summer day, while both phones experienced over 56 painful degrees after gaming.
Samsung should be ashamed.
33. SonyFindOneDroidple (Posts: 501; Member since: 11 May 2013)
The only things i find annoying with Samsung are the use of their flagship design language to their mid and low end smartphone and not making 32GB as the norm storage for their flagships. Leaving these behind, they are making complete package smartphone especially their flagships.
28. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5497; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
You hope that Samsung fail just because that you don't like to see people using these kind of devices in public places? It sounds very silly and selfish...
37. Dorothy69 (banned) (Posts: 498; Member since: 21 May 2013)
The next time you see someone (in public) using one of these big-ass screen phones just, look the other way. No one is forcing you to look at anyone!! Besides, mind your beeswax and stop gettin' into people's shi'aaat. For example, when I see anyone using a small micro iPhone (or the like), I don't say anything - I just continue along my merry way. I don't even fall to my knees in incredible disbelief and laughter; I just accept that it's their choice and their $700 down the drain. In short, don't be mad cuz' you can't afford one and all you have is perhaps a Craigslist recycled OG DROID!
40. Kurai (unregistered)
fyi i can afford my own gadgets with my own money . . i hope you'll be happy with you 6.3in phablet :) . . . if you'll buy that is
44. Dorothy69 (banned) (Posts: 498; Member since: 21 May 2013)
I know you can (afford your gadgets), considering that OG DROID cost not more than 50 bucks on CL.... or, is it a G1..... lol......
Jealous much ??!!!!??
46. Kurai (unregistered)
i didn't even know that og droid is below 50 bucks . . . i think you're the want who owns them . . . you know them very well . . .
50. Dorothy69 (banned) (Posts: 498; Member since: 21 May 2013)
Can't say that I have the same wittle DROID's complex but, if it makes you happy.
Sent from my blazingly fast and HUMONGOUS Galaxy Note 2.......

It doesn't look any more ridiculous than using a 10 inch iPad as a camera, and I've seen that often.
7. darkkjedii (Posts: 12618; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Way too big. Note 3 size without note 3 innards, wait for note 3
8. tiara6918 (Posts: 1532; Member since: 26 Apr 2012)
What a big ass phone! But somehow I'm really interested in this phablet simply because it's more portable than a 7inch and above tablet
12. CX3NT3_713 (Posts: 2010; Member since: 18 Apr 2011)
Lol if i see someone with this phone, ill be like.."sorry about your penis bro" haha
26. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5497; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
What you are saying when you see someone with a tablet?
32. Kurai (unregistered)
Who puts tablet on their pockets? . . .
58. CX3NT3_713 (Posts: 2010; Member since: 18 Apr 2011)
Lol thats what im saying? Who does that
45. daddysbeenabadgirl (Posts: 157; Member since: 26 Jul 2012)
That's actually funny. My wife says its average so no need to feel bad.
All jokes aside I'm interested in this phone but the the one thing that worries me is I feel like I would have little privacy in public. First it would attract a lot of attention and second everyone in my general vicinity could see everything Im doing on it . I guess it doesn't matter because I'll never get to try this phone with me being on Verizons network.
57. timepilot84 (Posts: 97; Member since: 16 Aug 2012)
I generally don't concern myself with the size of other men's penises, but if that's your thing, go for it.
59. CX3NT3_713 (Posts: 2010; Member since: 18 Apr 2011)
...so sorry bro... this phone will be great for you ;-)
16. sats.mine2k4 (banned) (Posts: 208; Member since: 10 Aug 2012)
Hope samsung gets the pricing on this right... Early rumors indicate a hefty $580 price tag on this which is a killer. A $400 price tag would make this big boy a winner...
17. darkvadervip (Posts: 343; Member since: 08 Dec 2010)
Samsung flooding the market. You got the note2, galaxy tabs, and this piece of junk.
53. tedkord (Posts: 5261; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Correction: Samsung dominating the market.
65. MistB (Posts: 581; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
Except that Samsung utterly destroys the competition from all sides, so your opinion is an irrelevant one
18. skyguy7567 (Posts: 148; Member since: 17 Nov 2012)
Looks like printed paper to me. Samsung just uses its screen size to let the heat escape. Who needs a screen that big? My friend is complaining about his note II not being able to fit into his pocket.
22. SonyFindOneDroidple (Posts: 501; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Lol why would he complain about it? He bought that incredible phone knowing its size''whatta lame supporting sentence/ haha.. Maybe he is complaining about the jeans you gave. :)
27. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5497; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
"Lol why would he complain about it?"
Maybe because he is disappointed by choosing this phone?
30. SonyFindOneDroidple (Posts: 501; Member since: 11 May 2013)
Have you read his statement? His friend is complaining because he cannot fit note2 in his pocket
36. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5497; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Yes, I have read. And does it somehow changes what I have said before?
47. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Dissapointed for choosing a phone that doesn't fit his jeans? Erm..
48. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5497; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
Yes, why not? For example he thought that it will be fine, but after some time of usage he had decided that it is no ergonomic for him.
49. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5497; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
It happens when your expectations doesn't come true, then you are disappointed by choosing this or other product. Is it so hard to understand or some people are just living on the "moon" ? :)
54. tedkord (Posts: 5261; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
It does. He knew the size when he bought it. He had a return period. Its not like he's upset because it doesn't function the way he expected or some other complaint he wouldn't have been aware of before buying.
61. PhoneArenaUser (Posts: 5497; Member since: 05 Aug 2011)
"He had a return period."
We can only guess about that since we don't know from where he get it.
"Its not like he's upset because it doesn't function the way he expected..."
Agree, it is not like he is upset because it doesn't function the way he expected, he is upset because it doesn't fit his requirements the way he expected. :)
71. skyguy7567 (Posts: 148; Member since: 17 Nov 2012)
Dude, he bought it during the summer holiday, He had no idea and no chance of wearing his school uniform during the summer holiday.
64. NOTE2OG (Posts: 11; Member since: 18 Apr 2013)
Tell your friend to stop wearing skinny jeans. Lol
70. skyguy7567 (Posts: 148; Member since: 17 Nov 2012)
That is his school uniform and our school uniform has large pockets. Xperia Z fits well.
19. ryan5609 (Posts: 99; Member since: 01 Nov 2011)
I really wish PA would make it a normal thing to show these larger phones pictured against someones face or how it fits into pockets. I am in no way shape or form ever going to be into a 6.3" phone, I just want to see how silly a normal person would look like while using this thing as a phone.
