RIM BlackBerry Bold 9900 Review
0. phoneArena 26 Aug 2011, 04:07 posted on
It’s time to take a look at T-Mobile’s new BlackBerry smartphone – the Bold 9900. Obviously, it’s the GSM cousin to the CDMA flavored Bold 9930 , but what separates it is the hefty $299.99 on-contract it’s flaunting and the support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network. Will this be the standout BlackBerry to own? ...

Interesting how call quality across models (9930 vs. 9900) can vary so much. I wonder if PA just got a bad sample 9900? Or, is there a problem with the 9900s that got fixed for the 9930s?

I can confirm that the call quality on my 9930 is very good. Internet speeds, surprisingly swift also.

I've always noticed that EVDO has better call quality than GSM. I know anybody with a GSM has heard the tick tick tick around speakers so you know there is interference.

I miss the blackberry keyboard. With what everyone has been saying about the keyboard on the new Bold there is a small part of me that feels the urge to go back to blackberry (though I probably won't). Essentially we need an android phone in this same form factor... with the same level of quality in the keyboard.

I was feeling the same... i missed the blackberry keyboard (my previous blackberry was the 9000), and was on my way to the verizon store to fix my droid... and iw as thinking, i miss my amazing keyboard... and i just ordered one right there :) and i love my 9930 :)

What do you miss about Android (if you do miss things)? How are the current BB apps compared to android's line up (as in, are there any "must have" apps that you can't find on BB)?

What i miss about android is that i could do a lot more and also get much more and better apps... but i still love my 9930 and dont regret getting it

Look for the Huawei boulder! its an android smart phone, with a qwerty keyboard and a touch screen. You may have a good experience.

I am shocked at the rating of this device ! !
This is such an incredible device. I have a Telus Blackberry 9900 unlocked and working well with AT&T.. it is 4G or 3.5G or 3G+ whatever you wanna call it.
System is fast, downloads are fast. I have no problems with call quality...
the only bad thing I can say is that it takes time to get all APP's working on newer devices, this is not AT&T or Blackberry's fault it just goes with new devices.
love this form factor the key board is SOO easy to use the touch screen is very welcoming...
there are things that software will be able to fix nothing that stands out though

the phone is very functional, but the battery output is poor.

ben I have the 9810 torch on att. It is an incredible phone compared to the old 9800. It is a lot easier to much and faster. It is the best remake of a phone I think other then the iPhone 3gs to 4. A lot of people liked the 3gs back better anyway. I think the torch 9810 is way better done. it is the same look as the 9800. The iPhone 4s was the same look as the 4 just was not that much better. I had the 4s and had problems so I went back to att and got a torch. I did have the old torch. I will say if your a bold fan they say november 6th the new bold is coming out. It will be hspa plus as is the new torch. They both have 7 on the device. What do you want more bigger phone or pull out keyboard. It comes down to price as well. The bold on tmobile is like 300. That is expensive knowing att has the torch for 50. I say wait till the 6th and look at both. Make up your mind, or just go now and get a torch. I would not go with a 4s I was not happy with mine. I would choose a 4 over the 4s. I say if you need an iPhone wait till the 5. If you need an android go with the galaxy s 2 or the atrix 2 if you have att. My roommate has the atrix 2 very good for the price and nice. I saw noah from phone dog and now techno buffalo playing with a demo galaxy 2 on demo the back was hot. I think android is a battery drainer. As for windows 7 phones they are great but to plain on the desktop but great for what they do. I say Ben in your case wait till the 6th try both or go now and try the torch if you like it go get it. If you don't wait till the 6th and check phone arena to see if you have any questions on changes on release date. Email me firstname.lastname@example.org if any questions do not hesitate to contact me. Whichever you pick pick the one you think is write for you because of restocking fees and one time exchange on att I would wait for the bold but I think 2 much money and I did my one exchange to get the torch my question for me is do I try to make another exchange to get the bold when it comes out, do I want to spend the money, and is it that much better then the torch. Have a goodnight sir contact me anytime with any questions.

RIM doesn't have SKYPE, today absolutely necessary.
Sorry but I am forced to switch to Android

How is the 9930 compared to 9900, and what is 9930 lacking of when come to using it in GSM coverage area?

I want to get in bed (not literally, of course) with the Blackberry Bold 9900, it's just such a great-looking phone and Blackberry OS seems so amazing, I just want to try it out for a while and see if I prefer it more than I prefer Android. I refuse to get an iPhone because I have the new iPod Touch and I don't want to be wasteful... but in the upcoming years when my iPod Touch is worn out and T-Mobile has an iPhone (which I hope to GOD it will) then maybe I'll give it a go... but for now it's all about the BBs and the Androids.

I have owned and been satisfied with blackberry phones for the past 6 years, always aware of the limitations and benefits that BB phones present. The Blackberry 9900 is the WORST model so far. No wonder RIM stock is going down the tubes. The battery of the 9900 lasts no more than 6 hours if lucky. The software freezes unexpectedly often and the reception signal continuously disappears and have to wait to get reception again in any location for no reason at all.
SHAME ON YOU RIM, I am very disappointed and will definitely shift over to iPhone 5.

I don't see anything wrong with the photo & video capture, nor do I find anything wrong with the OS - I love OS7!
However, that price might be pushing customers away, just saying. I know about 15 people who would get that phone, and 10 of them had to get an Android bacause the BB was just too damn expensive! I'm not worried; I'm just waiting until my first 12 months are up and that baby is ALL MINE. But for other people... c'mon, T-Mobile & RIM. Not smart & SO not cool.
