Plantronics Discovery 925 Review

Introduction and Design

Introduction:

Some people actually do consider Bluetooth hands-frees uncool. In our view, this is simply because they haven’t had the chance to see the new Plantronics Discovery 925. This is a stylish earpiece that allows you to stay focused on the road or do whatever you need to that requires both your hands.

All in a tizzy as we have finally got the chance to check out the Discovery 925, we hurried to unpack it. Actually, taking it out of the package isn’t the easiest thing to do. The manufacturer has done pretty well in creating a nice and elaborate box with  the potential to get even the smartest people in quandary. As if on purpose, the box is transparent, so we could see the little earpiece inside while struggling to get it out. Eventually, we came to find out the  box wasn’t impossible to open (you just need to use your horse sense instead of acting like the nerdy geeks we are) and the device was finally in our hands within a few seconds.

Design:

We are of the opinion that the new Plantronics looks really good. It’s stylish and made of metal, which contributes to its solid feel, although some people may find it a bit feminine. There are five color solutions to choose from: “Royal Blush” (white), “Black”, “Majestic Purple”, “Cerise” and “Gold”. The Discovery 925 comes bundled with a small leather-coated rechargeable case that is comfortable to carry about, say, in a small bag.

There are only two buttons onthe device. The big square-shaped one is the call control  and as itsname suggests, it lets you answer, reject and end calls as well aspower on/off and pair the earpiece. Pressing the small metal-likebutton turns the volume up and two low tones notify you if the fullblast level has been reached.

Performance:

We didn’t bother much adjusting the volume and quickly paired the device to run a quick test. It clings to the ear firmly, but sometimes you may get the feeling it is about to fall off. Fortunately, it wouldn´t, in contrast to other Bluetooth hands-frees we have used. Naturally, the Discovery 925 becomes uncomfortable after a prolonged use, say, two or three hours of continuous wear. The  wonderful sound quality, however, fully makes up for the drawback. Voices sound really clear and natural, as if the person you are talking with was right next to you. The same goes for people on the other end– everyone could hear us loud and clear, well, except for that time when a gust of wind almost knocked us off our feet and even the incorporated “AudioIQ” noise suppression technology didn´t seem to help. However, as far as we know, a real cell phone would not sound any better in similar conditions, so we are completely satisfied with its performance with this respect.

Conclusion:

We whole-heartedly recommend the Plantronics Discovery 925. Not everyone would find its innovative design appealing, but those who do, should know that they would be getting a really high-quality Bluetooth earpiece in their hands. It does look different and unique, not to mention the sound quality it delivers is nothing short of truly remarkable. Good things rarely come free though and you would need to shell out between $70 to $130 to get the Discovery 925. In this case, however, it’s money well spent.
