Nokia N9 Review
0. phoneArena 24 Oct 2011, 09:34 posted on
The Nokia N9 was hottly anticipated and yet, sadly, this illusive handset won't be widely available to the majority of you readers. Simply put, when we hold the Nokia N9 in our hands, we're holding a piece of history. MeeGo, the culmination of decades of Nokia mobile software development, is now offically canceled So why are we reviewing the Nokia N9?
This is a discussion for a review. To read the whole review, click here

So funny. And what looks good to you ?
Every review I read say the build quality is just premium, just one of the best ever since. Some say it's one of the best designed phones ever.
But you, you're probably right...have you at least seen the device, have it in your hand, an only time ?

symbian is dying. Only windows can save Nokia.

Ah! ICS with this interface would rock.
2. Muhannad (Posts: 455; Member since: 20 Sep 2011)
I think it at least deserves an 8/10. I mean it's a great phone but Nokia's stupid CEO "Stephan Elop" killed it and the OS. R.I.P MeeGo, an OS with great potential but was handled by the wrong people.
58. andresgalcia (Posts: 4; Member since: 05 Jan 2012)
finally some one understand what happen here, if that stupid ceo did not that mistake, nokia with meego be now competing with the other OS, but going with windows it is like walking in a lake and by the way out of 100 people only 5 of then buying windows phone, id went to tmobile to buy the lumia 710 and sale rep says to ARE YOU CRAZY TO BUY A WINDOWS PHONE, he say it good a windows phone not a NOKIA ajajajajaj
4. Stevedojob (Posts: 5; Member since: 21 Oct 2011)
This OS is very Brilliant. Nokia suppose to wait until the OS to be matured so it can compete with IOS or Android. However the Window Trojan Horse has destroying the whole thing, because he know that this OS one day can compete with IOS or Android and destroying his boss WIndow Phone OS etc
12. parthpatels007 (Posts: 52; Member since: 27 May 2011)
hey stevedojob!! haha!! i totally agree, WP7 proved to be a torjan horse :(
5. AKm007 (Posts: 108; Member since: 06 Sep 2011)
Has nobody heard Stephen Elop saying that while they're abandoning Meego, they will still be supporting the N9 with updates and all. Plus the limited app support negative point is not fair with Alien Dalvik being available. I can't comment about the buggy UI, but I think the N9 rcieves at least and 8.5....
8. Ravail (Posts: 181; Member since: 14 Oct 2011)
only way ill get another nokia phone is if they release one with Android ICS on it.
9. Muhannad (Posts: 455; Member since: 20 Sep 2011)
You're crazy, that's like saying iOS will become an open source OS.
15. Cyd07 (Posts: 83; Member since: 03 Oct 2011)
Yeah ! And Apple should use Android, and Samsung should give up with bada to use only Android, and Blackberry too, and our desktop computers should use Android too...
16. ledbetterp3 (Posts: 466; Member since: 31 Aug 2011)
cyd, that's exactly what I was thinking!
17. bbblader (Posts: 520; Member since: 24 Oct 2011)
android android android...
dude you know your using a computer that isnt running on android right?
42. daqwid2727 (Posts: 10; Member since: 16 Mar 2011)
my PC use Linux, so i use almost Android :P
21. Damien_666 (Posts: 37; Member since: 16 Oct 2011)
Next you'll ask for quad core...and then 14MP camera.....then a 5" screen....then say it's too slow and move on to another ANDROID phone - LOL
23. bbblader (Posts: 520; Member since: 24 Oct 2011)
even quad core wont be able to handle android + more battery drain
10. HTCiscool (Posts: 449; Member since: 16 Jul 2011)
its a great phone, but Mr. Elop murdered it like he did
Nokia. The E6, 701, N9, all of them could have been excellant...
But mr Elop!!!1
18. vishu9 (Posts: 247; Member since: 03 Mar 2011)
Seriously? I was thinking atleast an 8 or 8.5 on 10..the hardware is amazing..the UI is fluid, and the camera is great. Granted it will never have an app catalog as rich as Android or iOS but its got the developers' support and you can definitely expect some greatly intuitive stuff from them. I know that a review is subjective to the reviewer but somehow the score of 7 feels a little too harsh...and its really makes me sad that the OS has to die in the hands of the mole that Elop is!!
P.S. Even if the move to WP Mango proves to be good for the company, I will always hate Elop for being unfair to MeeGo.
22. Damien_666 (Posts: 37; Member since: 16 Oct 2011)
Did you see that IPhone 4S got an 8.5/10? So for phone arena, 8.5 is the new 10!
So N9's actual rating is something like 8.5/10 :-)

I find this review so funny.. yes it looks like a solid phone, very smooth and will undoubtedly be great!
However.. how the F is this phone any more sexy than the Galaxy Prime? In review after review, PA bags on the "square" phones that resemble the SGSII saying they are kind of boring.. and suddenly this is super sexy??
"dramatic flat top and side" really PA??? lol
I'm not knocking the phone.. it looks great, but I personally find a phone with a little more personality like the PRIME to be more exciting. This phone seems rather.. boring to me.
(I'm not talking about build quality or materials here.. just aesthetics)
25. o7o (Posts: 28; Member since: 26 Jun 2009)
"little more personality"?!!
Dude .. you have never even dreamed of this phone in your hands!!
I assure you, once you grap it .. you'll forget everything about any other phone in the world!
20. RORYREVOLUTION (Posts: 2842; Member since: 12 Jan 2010)
MeeGo was discontinued even before this phone was released basically. It was dead before it even lived.
27. ledbetterp3 (Posts: 466; Member since: 31 Aug 2011)
Haha, the guy who wrote this review's name is Basil! lol
31. arash84v (Posts: 28; Member since: 18 Nov 2009)
No offense to any windows mobile fans,..Bu i would without a doubt prefer the N9 over the Windows Mango Edition!!!
33. MobileTx (Posts: 5; Member since: 17 Sep 2011)
If we buy this phone what guaranty of meego service coz meego is officialy canceld ?
35. ToneDef (Posts: 39; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Great design, but the simplicity of the UI is also its downfall for users like me who have gotten used to the sheer customisability of Android phones. As for the apps, I'm afraid that the sheer breadth of the droid market is a big factor for me. I'm not dissing the phone, just saying that these are 2 deal-breakers that would keep me away.
51. blakkpanter (Posts: 3; Member since: 07 Jan 2012)
customisability ? You do know this phone is open source right? That u can basically change nearly everything about it if u know something about Linux? The maemo/meego community write their own apps and basically almost anything is possible? N900 still gets support from that community though Nokia stopped yrs ago
53. andresgalcia (Posts: 4; Member since: 05 Jan 2012)
ok you got good point there my friend but remember that symbian is costumizeble and stable mms, sms, email, java, works in any network like nothing-out but big problem that they have is the Marjorie of apps are for sale and don't to like thing because free better, android OS is base in Linux that if know how to root a nokia you can install android firmware on it..
37. Blankyash (Posts: 2; Member since: 30 Oct 2011)
the lumia is far better you can see for yourself
38. jellmoo (Posts: 356; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
Um... did you just make a statement saying that the Lumia is better and then link to article showing that the N9 is better? Am I missing something here?
39. Nathan (Posts: 83; Member since: 14 Jul 2011)
Great phone although it will probably become a collectors item. D:
43. nameless1521 (Posts: 17; Member since: 06 Nov 2011)
Meego is already aborted by its mom. Sad.
Tizen(Samsung&Intel) is replacing Meego, but i'm afraid it's gonna end up like Meego.
44. shan5115 (Posts: 3; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
you guys dont know how to review the phone, u guys said ui is good but then told buggy
45. sirocco8800 (Posts: 1; Member since: 18 Nov 2011)
I was just wondering If N9 is capable of sending a multimedia messaging/ MMS? I had the N900 before and MMS is not in a way supported. The Nokia N900 is also a linux based OS, the Maemo. Can anyone help me on this before I can finally buy the cp? I have had posted the same question in Nokia Support in their webside but with no apparent reason up to these days, I have not gotten any reply from them. Thanks.
46. Loepoes (Posts: 1; Member since: 26 Nov 2011)
No problem sending MMS\'s with the N9. Have done so and like everything else on this phone it works like a charm.
52. blakkpanter (Posts: 3; Member since: 07 Jan 2012)
And I had N900 with which i could send MMS.. Not supported out of the box but the community fixed it with fmms.
