Motorola DROID RAZR vs Apple iPhone 4S
Motorola DROID RAZR takes the crown here with its excellent call quality – a clear and strong sound both in the earpiece, and on the receiving end through the noise-canceling microphones. The iPhone 4S also provides for a rather good calling experience, with clearly discernible voices in the earpiece, and potent microphones.
Battery life is rated longer on the Motorola DROID RAZR – 9 hours and 20 minutes of talk time in 3G mode, which is becoming a staple for Moto’s handsets with the power-sipping TI OMAP processor family. The iPhone 4S is rated at 8 hours in 3G - it had battery issues in the beginning with some push notifications draining on the juice, but Apple issued a fix with iOS 5.0.1, which is meant to start remedying the issue.
You can’t go wrong with any of these handsets, but the choice will be much easier if you know beforehand which mobile OS you are leaning to – the simpler and polished iOS, or the more flexible Android.
The Motorola DROID RAZR sports a very thin profile and light weight, while at the same time being durable thanks to the metal frame and exotic Kevlar back plus its spill-proof coating. It excels in call quality both in the earpiece, and on the receiving end, and offers a large 4.3” Super AMOLED display, suitable for watching videos, but its 8MP camera is of subpar quality.
The iPhone 4S, on the other hand, provides one of the finest camera modules on a mobile device, and capturing images and 1080p video with it is the simplest and fastest experience available. It doesn't support Adobe Flash in the browser, but has one trump card hiding in the deck of features, called Siri, which is the personal assistant closest to those movies with futuristic voice-controlled gadgets you watched when you were a kid.
As far as applications go, we think that the Android and iOS stores are now pretty close in terms of quality and quantity, and you’ll be hard pressed to find something on the App Store that is not available in Android Market in similar fashion, although Apple has the upper hand in artsier projects, as well as mobile games.

Droid Razr FTW.
iPhone's only edge is the camera.
4. bobfreking55 (Posts: 866; Member since: 15 Jul 2011)
where's the video of the Razr vs S2 btw phonearena?? will this one get one??
16. windowsRocks (Posts: 152; Member since: 28 Oct 2011)
No ways. Latest vs Outdated comparison
24. ardent1 (Posts: 1997; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
It's too bad that Phone Areana couldn't get the RAZRs from mainland China -- the ones with the better spec like 13 MP camera or 4.5" screen, etc.
That would have made for a great comparison.
37. NVPMOTHAF (Posts: 78; Member since: 28 Sep 2011)
Obviously they want to compare phones phones that are similar.
38. Schmao (Posts: 302; Member since: 05 Jul 2009)
They picked the phone that would be purchased most by consumers.
39. JohnSPiere (Posts: 3; Member since: 22 Nov 2011)
But to get this phone for $0.01 only, beats the iPhone hand down.
2. deacz (Posts: 156; Member since: 02 Nov 2011)
wtf another failed VS? S**tty fluff reviews once again. stop doing those vs reviews if you cant decide on a winnner phone arena.
pointless from the start since it will be down to andriod vs ios.
3. bobfreking55 (Posts: 866; Member since: 15 Jul 2011)
It's the Razr.
Front Camera: Razr
Flash Support: Razr
Soon to be updated: Razr
Siri is just a talking gimmick girl. Nice but you can live without.
7. bobfreking55 (Posts: 866; Member since: 15 Jul 2011)
u cant use it well outside the US for one.
46. Reckless (Posts: 4; Member since: 25 Nov 2011)
yes in fact...see post below have you ever used google voice? been around a couple of years now...
21. E.N. (Posts: 2357; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
Dude, the Razr is a great phone, but you're oversimplifying a lot of things. Better camera = both stills and 1080p video capture. Also iPhone has a much better design. The review said the screen was gaudy and didn't show accurate colors, etc etc.
And so since Google pushed back the ICS date it's now category and reason to chose the Razr? That's like saying "Already Updated: iPhone". And since you mentioned nitty gritty things like flash support where any Android device automatically wins, you might as well throw in App Store and iTunes to the list.
22. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5634; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
we\'re all aware of what the Camera functionality entails and the design choice is a matter of preference. i think both phones are very handsome. SAA does have a few cons but the Pros even them out.
pushed back ICS? what are you talking about? the Razr will get ICS so why does it matter? it\'s still a great phone now. the App Store doesn\'t really hold the Android Market over a barrel so much anymore and i actually view iTunes as a con. especially now that we have Google Music.
45. Reckless (Posts: 4; Member since: 25 Nov 2011)
Dude.....get over things..... people will buy what they want and the "much better design" next time be sure to say in my humble opinion

Firstly, I'd agree to siri as not important. And if you do find it so important, there is somethings in the Android Market caller Iris and so forth which serves the same function. Not to mention the updates which are improving these applications more frequently compared to the IOS's Iris. Furthermore, I actually found this review to be a bit biased. It over-weighed Siri and did not even mention the applications which can make an Android faster, cleaner and so forth. There are applicaitions to replace the home UI and even to make it look like the IOS. Can the IOS do that?

So funny my wife has a iPhone 4S ..she was going to show her Dad how Siri worked and make a call to my phone (Droid2) ...so after Siri coughed and hickuped a few times something about not being able to connect to the network I presses voice search on my Droid 2 and said "Call (wifes name) mobile" ...instantly it dialed and called my wife...lol we all had a big laugh out of that!
47. Abdul92 (Posts: 43; Member since: 23 Aug 2011)
It's the iPhone 4S
Camera: iPhone 4S
Screen: iPhone 4S
Front Camera: iPhone 4S
Flash Support: Adobe has agreed to stop using Flash Player in all mobile devices. And jump on board with HTML5- iOS
Soon to be updated: iPhone 4S
There is no Android device than unique, Razr, epic touch, Nexus -- it all the same crap in a different body. Not to mention the malware.

Do you even know what you are talking about??? For one you talk about spending more money on the iphone when if you look at most phone places the Razr is actually more then the iphone 4S 16GB! Second you talk about speed of opening web sites and opening youtube pages well thats another place you dont know what your talking about, the reason the razr does that faster is because it is 4G but yet if your not in a 4G market the speed are actually about that same (4G just means the service is faster since your needing help knowing your facts)! The next part is what I love lmao you talk about the razr having motocast and lapdock applications ha ha ha ha I have one word for you ICLOUD same thing as your motocast and the iphone has the biggest accessory market known to any phone so you cant go there!
53. c.hack (Posts: 519; Member since: 09 Dec 2009)
Screen - horribly pixelated and washed out on the Razr. Smaller but much higher quality on the 4S
Form - Razr is uncomfortable to hold, and almost impossible to use one-handed
Flash support - not even Adobe cares anymore
Soon to be updated? Seriously? I've owned Droids for 2+ years - they are never updated in time and their updates are bug-ridden (GB on DX and DX2 was released 6 months late and riddled with bugs)
- Upgrade price is about the same. The freebies are only for new customers
I would give the Razr a big plus for Nav which is much better than on the iPhone, and for its Smart Actions that the iPhone can't touch.
However, by no means is the Razr a clear winner. If you want a small, high quality phone with a great camera you would ge the 4S. If you want a big screen and Android, there are better choices than the Razr.
63. mobileuser (Posts: 66; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
The latest review here has shown that even the two newest smart phones Samsung Galaxy Nexus and The HTC rezound cannot beat the Razr, what are the better choices out there right at the market at this very moment as you are referrign to that can beat the Razr. I would be interested to see any prove about that.
64. mobileuser (Posts: 66; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
Smaller screen is a bad thing in todays smart phone especially when you are using navigation while driving, Fortunately the iphone 4s does not come with the voice guided turn by turn navaigation so it is not important to your iphone user. Taking about camera. I feel very strange that why are people so concernec about the camera in teh phones. As far as I am concerrnec, those built in camera are for occasional use. I would not want to use it in your journey when you have to take a large quantity of pictures. Also, the video is for occasional use.I would like to use a digital video recorder if I really want to capture a long video. Therefore these two features should not be the main features to be compared with. Any comparision between phoens should be based on real world comparision on User interface, speeds, practicality as well as functionality of which the Razr wins hands down, not arguable.
69. mobileuser (Posts: 66; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
What are the other choices available? Even the GNexus, SGSII, HTC Rezounds all cannot compete in terms of overall built quality, call quality and functionality. I dont see how an Iphone4 can have any legs up against the Razr when I dont see any customizable UI available in the iphone and the Siri still cannot do many things that the google voice search can do for me.
72. cjbasketball25 (Posts: 2; Member since: 22 Jan 2012)
google voice is a joke! SIRI takes laps around it
73. nnaatthhaannx2 (Posts: 820; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
"soon to be updated" you know you're talking about an android phone rite?
10. iamcc (Posts: 1319; Member since: 07 Oct 2011)
I like their reviews. There can never be a clear "winner" unless you are comparing an Android phone to another Android phone or two iPhones against each other.
Its nice to see the breakdown of which features/specs are better on each device to aid in the decision making process but as you mentioned yourself it comes down to OS preference. Maybe down the road that will change but they are essentially comparing apples to oranges (ha) and with that in mind I think they do an excellent job.
5. HTCiscool (Posts: 449; Member since: 16 Jul 2011)
Why can\\\'t you guys just grit your teeth and give a straight answer of which one you prefer? I get tired of reading the old:
\\\"You can\\\'t go wrong with either\\\"
We want to hear your opinion, and as a consumer, which one you would buy if you had the money for either.
None of this Bulls**t about trying to say the RAZR just to please your Android fanboys. If you truly prefer the iPhone 4S then please say so, we respect your decisions.
iPhone still has the edge in smoothness, camera and video.
I tried Siri the other day at an Apple store, you don\\\'t even need to try and speak clearly, you can mumble at it and it will still understand you, quite amazing I think.
12. roldefol (Posts: 3107; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
For this comparison they really can't pick a winner. It's going to be a matter of personal preference. I don't know why they bother comparing such different devices.
25. ardent1 (Posts: 1997; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
Siri's wit is what blows me away. I don't know how they did it but that AI is not gimmick.
People forget, Siri is still beta.
50. WD40 (Posts: 18; Member since: 21 Oct 2009)
So you aren't happy unless they say the iPhone is better? Kinda sounds like that is what you want to hear.
51. chadrick0814 (Posts: 208; Member since: 23 Nov 2011)
Did that iphone 4s you tried get high download speeds on 4g? Did you try to send a picture to the iphone via bluetooth? 1.2 ghz dual core is pretty smooth also considerng the razr has multitaskng. "Smoothness" is subjective of course. 4g, hdmi, bluetooth file transfer, and large screen are not. How could phone arena call a iphone 4s when it doesnt even have features that should be standard.
8. baldilocks (Posts: 541; Member since: 14 Dec 2008)
The RAZR is one UGLY phone from the front.
11. roldefol (Posts: 3107; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Completely subjective, but I agree. PA keeps dinging phones like the Rezound for not having a groundbreaking design like the Razr, but it's easy on the eyes and comfortable to hold. Isn't that more important that looking different?
17. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5634; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
not to critics that long for change.
9. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5921; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
@bob - +1 on the RAZR. You neglected to mention the LTE network on the RAZR, though. In the S.F. Bay Area, the best speed I have seen on an AT&T-edition 4S is around 3 Mbps at 2 a.m. My RAZR has regularly hit 18 Mbps, with some times making it to 24 Mbps (yes, I did a second check to confirm) territory with the speed checks occurring throughout the day. VZW's LTE network rivals cable modem service.
13. BattleBrat (Posts: 1148; Member since: 26 Oct 2011)
I was originally going to buy the iPhone 4s but the battery life didn't cut it, I must say I'm quite happy with the RAZR, just fired her up, very cool. If the iPhone 5 comes out (Next September) and has an Ipod Touch form factor, I'm saving $650+ and buying one, upgrade be damned.
14. networkdood (Posts: 6310; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Now, my dilemma is:
RAZR or GALAXY NEXUS????
18. networkdood (Posts: 6310; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Well, it is true - I have no reason to get an iphone 4S - it is boring looking and all I would do with it is play games, then jailbreak it, and play more games.
15. networkdood (Posts: 6310; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
I will say that the wife activated her Verizon 4S yesterday and loves it. Sound quality is fantastic compared to AT&T 3GS - data speeds suck - but she is on wifi, which is actually quite fast.
19. Carlitos (Posts: 340; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
Why do we keep putting the iphones 4s, against beast of phones like this. Or most dual core phones of android. ( Galaxy S2, Razr, Bionic, Atrix, photon, DROID 3, etc. There are some I might of missed)
20. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5634; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
the 4S is dual-core and besides i don't mind seeing (and let others see) what a mistake Apple made this year. :P
26. networkdood (Posts: 6310; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Agree with the KINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!
I believe the wife will buy me my phone per my AMAZON wish list, but since the account was opened in my name, I doubt she will surprise me.
27. ledbetterp3 (Posts: 467; Member since: 31 Aug 2011)
I want the raze so bad, wish it was on at&t on contract...
29. ILikeBubbles (Posts: 302; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
honestly i think this is kind of a stupid question... comparisons like these are a step away from pointless. you don't see many people blogging about comparisons between the PC and the Xbox 360... (bear with me lol)
i know the way the Xbox 360 is designed it's mostly a computer BUT my point is every game that you run on the xbox is designed and strenuously tested against those exact specs. the word "custom made" for the processor of the iPhone.. everyone else get this?
Android is like the PC where it comes with many *almost* customizable cpu's and even gpu's at this point..
the difference is for one, everything that goes on that object is completely optimized for what will 100% be the hardware. the other has to be much more flexible and can in some cases be a lot more intensive.
the iPhone is damn good at what it does. there's no lag, and very little malware because they have a deathgrip on everything so its all butter.
but android is pretty good too i think. :p
30. IsThereOnePhoneWOaFatalFlaw (Posts: 10; Member since: 07 Nov 2011)
Is it me or did these comparisons used to have more definitive victors? What good is to type all that crap, consisting of the same stuff we already knew (if you read the individual reviews of these products) and then in effect, say at the end "This one is better if you like THIS and that one is better if you like THAT." Untuck your sack PhoneArena, and PICK ONE! >:(
34. danny024 (Posts: 10; Member since: 27 Feb 2011)
What's happening is that Phone Arena, PC mag, Cnet and others know it would be too biased to crown the iPhone winner when it's obviously not, so they just call it a "tie" or "depends on personal interest"
31. Packer29 (Posts: 56; Member since: 10 Sep 2011)
Iphone its not even close Motorola phones suck and i have seen that garbage screen its laughable!
33. danny024 (Posts: 10; Member since: 27 Feb 2011)
Oh so you like that glass body on your iPhone 4S? Well let's see what happens when you drop an iPhone from 4 feet. In terms of design the Razr killed the iPhone on this one, it's lighter, bigger, and MORE DURABLE (with its Kevlar back and Gorilla glass screen). Why bother to have that good looking classy iPhone if you need a 1/2 inch case on it just to last you a year with the thing? Even on my Samsung with Gorilla Glass I don't need a case, I just rock it with a screen protector.
35. Striker (Posts: 92; Member since: 06 Nov 2011)
Screen size: Apple
OS: Definetely Apple!
Camera: Definetely Apple!
Moto is junk, especially with it's OS. I am sorry.
42. nizziemillz (Posts: 3; Member since: 13 Aug 2010)
I'm sorry that you are an uneducated conspicuous consumer. And about 4 of those points you made are are false. Enjoy your device that's only advantage is Siri and a nice camera. I'll enjoy my Razr and my free navigation, widgets, customization, 5 to 1 free to paid apps ratio, expandable memory, better battery life AND MY 4G LTE connection that's pulling 15mbps. Man your right the iphone sounds way better what was i thinking...
49. WD40 (Posts: 18; Member since: 21 Oct 2009)
You wouldn't feel cool among your peers unless you felt this way Striker. I understand, middle school life is hard.
36. jackhammeR (Posts: 1548; Member since: 17 Oct 2011)
Point 4 means that you're apple fanboy?
I don't like android but, quoting: "OS: Definetely Apple!" does not need any comment.
"Moto is junk, especially with it's OS"...is junk?
In which aspect?
And you sorry for what? For having your own preferences?
40. richardyarrell2011 (banned) (Posts: 510; Member since: 16 Mar 2011)
Htc Rezound PIMP SLAPS both of these devices period
48. WD40 (Posts: 18; Member since: 21 Oct 2009)
Did anyone notice how jumpy the iphone video was? I thought the RAZR was more smooth. It's like they based their opinion on the specs not the actual video. I think it's way more simple. People who have and iPhone will say iPhone is better, Android users will say Android. People aren't capable of objective comments.
