LG Rumor Touch Review
0. phoneArena 31 Mar 2010, 02:20 posted on
LG has had a lot of success with their Rumor line on Sprint, along with variants on Alltel and now Verizon Wireless. However, two generations in more of the same will no longer do for Sprint customers so LG has made some major changes to the third member of the Rumor family. As the name implies, the Rumor Touch adds a touch screen to the familiar side-sliding design, but the upgrades don’t stop there...

Virgin Mobile also has this phone now too. Before you buy this phone, you should check into its difficulties with installing 3rd party apps, ringtones, and wallpapers. I have the phone through Virgin Mobile and it is pretty locked down. Sprint has a little more freedom. The best site on the web right now to learn about all these feature work around is @ Hubpages. http://hubpages.com/_stumbleU/

I did not realize that this phone did NOT come with a manual. The options are to get on your computer EVERY time you have a question or PRINT 122 pages. I contacted customer service, several times, and was told basically 'tough ---"; they can't (won't?) help me. What about people that do not have access to a computer, time to sit on their computer, or can't afford to print out 122 pages? If I had realized a manual was not included I would not have purchased this item. As to their customer service, they don't seem to want me as a customer. So I will use this phone for my 300 minutes. I will return it. I will purchase another phone/provider. AND I will post this on every board I can find. With this economy, wouldn't you think they would be trying to KEEP customers?

A manual IS included with the phone

I would NOT recommend the LG Rumor Touch. It's got lots of features, but interface is extremely un-intuitive and locked down, so you aren't allowed to add apps or customize it. Although there is a video camera, it's only 2MP and lacks a flash or sound so will be crude. The phone does not support wifi, tethering, Android, or Adobe Flash. The CPU is very slow if you have more than a few photos or MP3 in it. The touch screen isn't fast or precise enough , so you often end up choosing the wrong feature. If you want to load all your existing phone contacts there's no way to do it other than manually, and to backup your contact list you have to pay a monthly fee for the Contact Vault. Also the Email + IM app is designed to exit from memory after a short time so you can't enjoy push technology. The vendor rarely comes out with software updates. The best thing about this phone is nice keyboard and good IM software for all the major services, but a full battery charge will only last about half a day.

After the 3rd phone in 6 months, the first two were replaced due to faulty screen, bad battery, and both had software bugs, I gave it to my daughter to use as a toy and am now using my old trusty Fusic until the contract expires and I can shift carriers.

Don't get this phone. Worked ok as just a phone for almost a year, then the battery went dead after just a few hours. Sprint replaced it with a refurbished one but kept the same battery. Same problem..they got ANOTHER phone...same problem...they replaced the battery...same problem...etc. etc. etc. I had to pay $35 for the first replacement!!! I am still dealing with the problem. Called LG and they say to mail the phone to them they'll check it. 4 weeks with not resolution (I did get Sprint to credit the $35 to my account). I'm sure these phones are faulty in some way...they seem to have plenty of refurbished phones on hand. I think I'll reactivate my old phone for the remaining year on my contract, which is good for SXXT.

My daughter has aroumor touch by sprint and its the first phone i have found too frustrating to learn. As a tech junkie by nature i like to check out all the different features the phone itself offers without apps and pc and network provider assistance. I find alot of time with this was just making the touchscreen respond to scrolling.it either scrolled past what i needed uncontrolably or selected what I touched to start the scroll then it made it an ordeal to figure out how to get back to where I was. Finally.altho im aware it isnt a smart phone It should have a way to easily back up information on it to a computer or the internal msd. like sms and IM conversations and contacts without having to be the account holder of the wireless account. I dont want to have to deal with sprint or anyother customer service via web or phone ieverytime anyone on my plan just wants to save something they may want to protect from loss of device, User Guide was included but not helpful.

I've had this phone for an entire year and I've only had very minor problems with it, each have been easily fixed. Though when I first got the thing, It crashed and deleted everything, pictures, contacts, etc. It wouldn't log onto the internet, and the FB app didn't work without having to log back in every 10 minutes, but I took it and got it upgraded and I've had no problems since. The touch screen [for me] is reliable and very in touch with my motions. It loads web pages that my Rumor 2 wouldn't, My FB app is always reliable and never signs me out anymore. This has been /the most reliable phone I have ever had./ /EVER/ Even after several very bad falls, It's never broken, glitched out, or become unreliable. An entire year later, I still have this phone and despite it's scratched screen and dents here and there, it still works like it's brand new. My Videos have sound and good quality, My MP3 player works in the background while I'm on FB all day, and by the end of the day I have two bars left in the battery, [Though not it's original battery that easily broke open after a bad fall] and I do /NOT/ want to give it up. I love this phone. I don't trust any others, because every phone I've had has been unreliable, but this one. I have it through print. Simple. Easy. Durable. Good quality phone.
MUCH MUCH MUCH Better than the Rumor 2 or 1. Both of which I have had as well, and they only lasted 6 months before breaking down and becoming unreliable.

The LG Rumor was an upgrade for me from the Samsung Rant. At the time of upgrade purchase, I had a 30 day return policy which I tried to exercise during that time because I had some issues with the phone. I was told that I could indeed return it but would have to pay a $35 restocking fee. The sales rep told me that my issues were more than likely due to "work on the towers" and would probably correct itself. So I opted to keep it and hoped he was right. He wasn't. After many calls to Sprint Customer Service I had a supervisor tell me that it sounded to him like my "handset was bad" and he offered to replace it with a refurbished unit. I did not take him up on that, but instead went back to my Samsung Rant which had never given me one bit of trouble - in fact I had jumped into my pool with it in the pocket of suit and after using the "rice" technique, it still works like a charm. Don't know if I happened to get a "lemon" with the Rumor or it's just Sprint's service, but after my contract is up, will be looking at other options more carefully. I would, however, think twice about purchasing a Rumor.

As someone who can't and doesn't want to pay extra for the smart phone plans, I think the rumor touch is a decent compromise between a basic phone and a smart phone. Just activated it last night and like it so far.

I have had alot of problems with this phone. It is so bad I would not call it a phone. I have had many battery problems, email, social metworking, screen, and internet problems. Sprit has replaced my phone 7 times now in a year. This a very very very crapy phone. I would not recomend it to anyone.

I got a used rumor touch from a friend of mine, and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. I now see why he got rid of it. The headphone jack doesn't work properly, and neither does the USB charger port. And then theirs the problem of it not sending texts, the internet browser on it not even loading, and just general pains in the arse. Don't get this phone!

This phone was loyal for 3 months and then it started to restart on its own, black the screen while I typed a text message, and sometimes the screen was unresponsive. Quite frustrating after a while, but the keyboard is pretty nice and the UI is different from many feature phones so that was a plus for me. Design is ok, not a huge fan, but can't complain. I never treat my phones carelessly so when I start experiencing these problems, it's a problem in the phone, not me.

I'm not much of a phone freak, and this is only my second cell phone since I started using them. With that said, I don't like this phone either. I've had no problems with it breaking down (yet) but I find it clumsy to use. I like the keypad, but I don't like trying to scroll down my list of contacts and having it scroll past the one I wanted time after time. The interface is not very intuitive, whoever designed it didn't 'fall in love with it ' and get it just right. Keeps going back to locked mode when I don't want it to, screen goes dark before I'm ready, even on the longest setting. I wind up clicking on something I didn't mean to just trying to hold it and then not being allowed an easy way out of what I accidentally selected. I miss the speaker phone option I had with my Sanyo flip phone. As I don't opt for apps, I don't really test it that way, and I only got it because I got talked into it by the Sprint rep who apparently just wanted to make sure I was locked into another two year contract. I'm thinking about just going back to my old one and waiting out the contract also, when I'll probably sign up for Verizon. Maybe I'll get an i-Phone...

Am I the only one who can't download pictures to my computer via bluetooth? Went to the Sprint store and the tech couldn't either. It would only recognize pics on another LG phone. The computer sees music, but not pics. Have to transfer pics to the memory card and download with a card reader. This sucks! Can anyone help me?

I would NOT reccomend this phone to ANYBODY because you can barely customize it. also it is extremely boring after like a week or two because the enternet is slow and you cant do anything to fix it. so if you think this phone is going to be great well you must read the comments about it first! DONT GET THIS PHONE!

I had the Rumor Touch with Sprint and Virgin Mobile because I am a person who doesn't really like a lot of change or switching up but I will tell you what it's nothing I would ever recommend to a family member or friend! I don't like how you can't download ringtones, how it always calls people back it's worse than a Crackberry with butt calls and what not! It gets the worse reception ever! Only thing it was good for is being durable I dropped it numerous amount of times and it lasted until my daughter dropped it and let it get ran over by a car! The internal wiring messes up on it more than anything! I paid a little under a $100 for the VM Version and should have went with the Mirror by Boost Mobile if I was going to stick with pre paid because at least I didn't have to worry about the RING TONE blocking thing! That really sucked!IMO

I've had this phone a little more than two years, it's my first phone so I don't have anything to compare it too but I do know its not the best. A month after getting it would randomly turn itself off if I typed to fast and wouldn't send messages. The message problem was fixed easily by popping out the battery for a few seconds. But now I find myself removing the battery constantly in order to send a message. The battery has a small crack in it from being dropped once on the carpet. The top part that slides is starting to come loose from the lower part. The back pops off easily(even in my purse and pocket). Camera was ok once I figured out how to change settings to meet my photography needs. The Internet is good though pictures often won't load so I need to pop the battery out again. Call service is great, though! No static, even at long distance, easy to get signals, clearly hear the other person and easy to add contacts and find contacts in the phones address book. So it you just need a portable phone to call people then this phone is perfect but if you want to use it for Internet or texting I suggest a different phone.

I have had this phone for about a year and a half. I use Virgin Mobile as my service provider and that's where my problems lie. I have had a few battery issues and an occasional but rare FREEZE. The camera is OK but no flash. Touchscreen is decent. I use my phone to listen to music all the time but unfortunately you can't do anything else while listening. I can call and text/photo message quickly and easily. I can also use the internet (Google, email, Facebook, YouTube (SHORT videos ONLY-nothing over about 4 or 5 min MAX). The internet connection is PAINFULLY slow and can't download Apps or anything like that. All in all I'm satisfied with the phone. Virgin Mobile is pretty crappy but I only pay $25 bucks a month for unlimited messaging and data usage. Plus 300 talk minutes (which I never EVER use). I guess you really do get what you pay for.
