LG Optimus GT540 ReviewLG Optimus 8
LG has customized the interface of the camera, giving you quite a few options to mess around with, including focusing modes, brightness and contrast, white balance, shooting modes (like Beauty shot and Panorama), ISO, scenes and so on.
Image quality with the 3MP autofocus camera of the LG Optimus GT540 is bearable in case you take photos mainly on the outside. Such shots have nice sharpness to them, providing some decent details. Meanwhile, colors are relatively well saturated and correctly reproduced. Brightly lit areas have a tendency to get overexposed, but this won't be that much of a problem when it's not a super-sunny day.
Moving indoors produces somewhat blurry and noisy photos. On the whole, we are disappointed with the indoor image quality. Moreover, the Optimus lacks a flash, which limits the possible usage scenarios to an extent.
You can use the cam of the LG Optimus GT540 to record VGA resolution videos, which is okay, but they are also captured at mediocre 17 frames per second, which is not really okay. Moving the camera around will cause quite a lot of distortion, so you'll have to hold the Optimus as steady as possible.
LG Optimus GT540 sample video at 640x480 pixels resolution.
The LG Optimus GT540 is a strange concept when it comes to its multimedia playback capabilities. You can flawlessly play Xvid files with resolution of up to 640x360 pixels, and you can even go beyond that resolution, but the performance will be getting worse with each additional pixel.
Now for the surprise: you cannot play MPEG-4, DivX or H.264 videos on the Optimus. At least we couldn't run our tests files, which have always worked on other Android devices (we mean, the MPEG-4 ones). So there you have it - a nice Xvid-capable Android smartphone, crippled by its inability to play other popular codecs.
Unfortunately, we couldn't test the headset that's going to come in the box of the LG Optimus GT540. However, we tried playing some tunes through the loudspeaker and it proved to be an average performer. Its loudness can get decently high, but it may as well introduce you to some crackling, especially on some heavier songs. Lowering the volume just a bit takes care of that problem and leaves you with a normally powerful speaker.

whats the difference of resistive to capacitive? and what phone would be the example of this two?
7. Father (unregistered)
Resistive screen doesn't handles two inputs simultaneously. A Capacitive screen can handle two or more inputs simultaneously, that is why its needed in the feature of Pinch-to-Zoom.

resistive touch input senses force ( it has two sheets slightly apart and senses where you press by where the sheets touch (due to your press))
resesitve requires more effort - and usually can't support multi-touch.
capacitive touch input senses heat/electrical signals
so is much easier to use - only requires you to touch the screen lightly and supports multi touch

im using this phone, not too superb, but on par with its cheap price @jaypee, with resistive you can access the screen with anything (hands, phone, sticks, etc) most of not expensive smartphone using this type, resistive cant be multi touched (cmiiw), capacitive must be controled by somehing that has charge in it, example, hands, battery etc, example iphone

I had this phone for 1 day before returning it. The problem with phone is it's antenna - it struggles to get reception in the same location other phones I owned have a good - full bars - signal.
The phone I'm currently using is Nokia 5230. There is always a full signal on 3G. The Optimus gets about 2 bars at best on 2G. This is when using the same sim as the Nokia.
I tried phoning the mobile from a landline to test it's responsiveness - out of 6 calls spaced about 5 minutes apart, 3 of the calls didn't cause the mobile to ring but went straight through to my network's answerphone - I know from experiece this is due to poor signal.
Having such a weak antenna means this phone doesn't suceed in it's most primary function so it's hard to see how any website could possibly recommend it.
I've experinced the same problem with many HTC phones.
What would be useful to see here on this website is an accessment of each phone's ability to receive a signal because it's clear to me that there are large differences between 1 phone's ability to receive a signal and another. And what use is a phone that is incapable of connecting unless you happen to always be in a strong signal area?

have you tried to switch the sim card? i've had the same problem with the iphone 3g, but i've switched sim cards and it worked fine for me...

this is a cool phone.., i'm in indonesia..
i have no complaint about this phone, the signal, GPS and othrers is good..
it can preview the document (doc, xls, pdf, ppt) and can edit that kinda file too, but with pro version application (buy). about the messaging, it very cool. you can read all of the message from whom u re SMS with.
for the contact, it can sync with gmail, facebook etc. (like another android) or import it from SD card (u must export contact to SD card first, from ur old phone).
the camera is great, for 3mp camera.
it can upgrade to eclair (2.1), n now in progress to 2.2 (froyo)
with "customize" it, u also can root n app2sd.

If your on wi-fi then I don't know but it sounds like your using data roaming. If you are using data roaming and you're downloading lots of things its going to use a lot of credit because you are charged with every megabyte of internet you use and downloading uses a lot.
To stop this go into the settings and onto 'Wireless and Networks' then in 'Mobile network settings' un-tick Data roaming. This, however, turns of text messaging. If you want an easier way which keeps messaging download 'APNdroid' from the marketplace. I have it and it works fine on my Optimus. Hope this helps :)

people need to be careful when downloading things, it can eat your credit away
