Ever since we've had LTE and quad-core processors, we've dreamt of one thing – to have both of these amazing features in a single device! Thanks to LG and their latest flagship smartphone, the Optimus G, this is now no longer a dream, but reality...

Megapixels do not mean jack with a sensor that small. Did you see that nighttime photo? Looked as bad as my Razr lol.

You're right, those who have any knowledge of technology, either in a phone or real camera, already know that MP doesn't mean squat without a good lens. thank you for knowing what you're talking about.

I think the guy didn't wipe the lense before he took photos.
Check GSMArena's...The photos are amazing!!

Sorry but I have to agree with him. The camera looks bad. Given the fact that they're using a 13MP camera sensor. They could have made use of a better software and algorithms to reduce noise.
G is a high-end device that deserves to be the best in every aspect. But the images captured with it shows an average quality shots. They could have made it better, besides it's one of the major aspects of a smartphone.
But nonetheless, the phone is a beast.

The 808 Pureview's sensor is nearly 7 times larger.
51. eyad_996 posted on 21 Sep 2012, 07:46 0 0
Why are cameras so hard to make, just get a bigger sensor!!!
is that hard, it doesn't have to be like the 808's sensor. we can live with a bit bigger sensor, it doesn't have to be small to make the phone look good
62. newsmeister.china posted on 24 Sep 2012, 20:57 0 0
I think a bigger sensor would make the overall phone thicker. To shine enough light on a larger sensor would mean greater distance between the lens and the sensor. Simple physics.
63. AppleHateBoy posted on 25 Sep 2012, 22:25 0 0
The problem isn't the sensor. The problem is the lens. The lens has to have more depth to feed the larger sensor which increases the phone's thickness.

Talking about what's not good...camera is good enough. What's not, is the non-removable battery and no micro SD slot. Sure non-removable battery is already a standard issue but it feels like the stuff is a disposable one. Like one of those use and throw disposable cameras we used to have.

Samsung Galaxy S4 will be 2GB Ram, 128GB memory, 12mp, etc. will beat the new LG Optimus in 2013.

From the image samples, the camera performs better in low-light situations than the iPhone 4S, which is a high performer itself.

Any info about the phones specs in the US. I bet they will use the 8970T for the US.

the camera lens should have been cleaned more....
the best shot comes from the clean condition.

I've invited to the Optimus G's Korean launch event and had a chance to play the camera. It was fantastic actually.. equipped with IPS True HD+.. what's more? The reviewer let the camera set wrong..probs :(

I would love to see LG use their 1080p 5 inch screen. But that's just me.

Very bad camera. I bought it thinking the 13 megapixels would just be a huge improvement on my 5 mp HTC Shift. No crispness to any photo. Fuzz ball once you zoom in at all. I was absolutely shocked. I loved the phone side. Very fast, well put together, decent battery life and just a nice looking screen. But the pictures just shocked me. I went back in figuring I'd get a new phone and the gal at Sprint told me they looked fine. I took a picture with my old HTC, showed it to her zoomed in and compared it to one we took in the store. We then went to a display phone to see if it did the same. Exactly as bad. On top of that I actually do shoot kids ice hockey pictures with a Canon so I wasn't expecting a lot out of a phone but this thing is woefully inadequate. Trying to Google some opinions on the bad camera in this phone seems to be a problem so I was really thinking I had a bad phone. But I guess the search is disabled for problem searching or no one has a clue. A shame too as I ended up with the new HTC One and there's not a lot of difference other then the camera is great on the HTC.

When LG released the LG G2X (Optimus 2X). It was touted as the most powerful phone ever. However, there are other things to consider when getting a phone. The G2X suffered from rebooting and freezing issues. Also, the carriers in the states haven't updated it to Ice Cream Sandwich. I can only hope that LG has addressed these issues with this phone, however I'll never buy a LG phone again.
38. u-suck-more posted on 19 Sep 2012, 01:28 1 0
well, an update has alr been released (b4 GB) tt fixed the freezing and rebooting issues (not too sure bout the States tho), and i rmb phonearena saying that the G2x wont be getting updated to ICS. i guess it sucks to be living in the USA sometimes, esp with all these annoying carriers

just stay away people....for your own sake
save your hard earned money and wait for another phone from any other manufacture with that killer chipset
they are just horrible with the software...go see lg phones sections in xda forums(especially Optimus 3d forum) and see how everyone is complaining and saying lg never again...they always combine great hardware with crappy software...and they take forever/don't update their phones...we are still waiting for ics for 2X,black,and 3D....
10. d_eagle posted on 18 Sep 2012, 17:08 4 0
Optimus 4X HD has a pretty well made software. You can't judge this phone until it will come put. Even if you had a bad experience with LG, this doesn't mean that LG will be crap in future too.
Sony is making good phones today, but its X10 series was a complete fail... this proves that everybody can learn from past mistakes.
11. evil_slayer posted on 18 Sep 2012, 17:20 3 0
you may be right about this one..altough i haven't personaly tried the 4x...but you gonna see how long it gonna take them to upgrade it to jellybean...
also...when a company tries to improve and learn from their past mistakes..they must look into their past devices and at least fix their problems..im telling you man...without the custom gb roms with custom kernels from the few xda developers...the phone wouldn't be stable(i am an optimus 3D owner btw)
and belive me im not the only one with bad experince with lg...most of 2X/3D/Black owners have/had bad experince with them...how do i know?see xda forum and check their facebook page
you are right....just because they were bad in the past doesn't mean they gonna be bad in future...but considering we are not talking about bad experince with one device...we are talking about their top devices..kinda makes me skip even trying their new phones....but maybe thats just me
13. d_eagle posted on 18 Sep 2012, 17:31 2 0
Yea, but 2X, Black and 3D are gonna get ICS in these days. Update is already out in Korea, I think it's going to roll out in the international market too.
This could be a good starting point for LG's return
15. evil_slayer posted on 18 Sep 2012, 17:38 1 0
i really hope that happens..its the only thing im still hanging to my optimus 3d right now
but i want you to check post #788 in this Page:
also,to make things even worse...they started to lock bootloaders since ICS(4x comes with a locked bootloader, the ics for the korean 3d locks the bootloader too...at least thats what i read)
im not trying to just attack here...i just wanted to show you how bad things are with them
just look 2 posts under this post(GoBears Post) and buggerrer post(7 posts up)
you can see im not alone...and you'll find stuff like these in every lg phone related article

i think the camera shots were pretty damn good! and yea that night time shot was a bit bright or ......blurry? i wanna say, but maybe it was the dude taking the shot more than anything........overall we still jus need to see more reviews before making a final decision but so far the optimus G looks ready to go........ good job LG :)
14. GoBears posted on 18 Sep 2012, 17:32 2 6
Sorry, just don't have much faith in LG after a short run with the spectrum. They make killer displays but their software is horrid.
16. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 18 Sep 2012, 17:45 5 0
how about we wait on more thorough reviews before making their product sound un-enticing?
19. osanilevich posted on 18 Sep 2012, 18:36 1 0
I think if LG went to work on their night photo taking software between now and release, they'd have the phone of the year on their hands as that is the only problem I see here. Also, is it true this phone won't have a microSD slot?
20. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 18 Sep 2012, 18:42 1 0
yea but it does come with 32 gb installed so that should be MORE than enough.......unless you're like a professional photographer or video editer that is.........

I actually have the LG Nitro HD and my phone was upgraded to 4.0.4 and I have to say I haven't had any problems with it at all. I like LG phones and they have never done me wrong in the past. I'm thinking this will be my next phone, as I'm looking to come over to Verizon from ATT.
24. GoBears posted on 18 Sep 2012, 20:25 1 0
That's the beauty of Android and all the manufacturers. There's a phone for everybody!
31. aoikemono27 posted on 18 Sep 2012, 20:57 0 2
Nope not for everyone. I have yet to find one for me. This one doesn't even register. It's a black slab with chrome rim. Like a million others. And the UI still looks like Android.
29. Cha7520 posted on 18 Sep 2012, 20:54 1 0
But I have to say the battery life SUX on my phone. Thats the only problem I have with my LG Nitro HD, is that it came with a 1,800mah battery and I found a 2,1000mah extended battery for it, but it still needs to be charged like twice a day. I'm torn between getting a phone like this with an awesome resolution, Snapdragon 4pro processor, 13 megapixel camera, etc....versus getting a phone like the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD with a battery of 3,300mah which would last all day.
32. aoikemono27 posted on 18 Sep 2012, 21:08 1 3
Camera sucks for a flagship. Blurry and noisy with bad colors, even the outdoor shots. 13MP means nothing. Just like the 12MP in Sony's phones. Both Samsung and Apple have much better, sharper, and far less noisy cameras. HTC has a sharper camera as well with less noise, but awful colors. LG is in the bottom half with Sony and Motorola, still.
Deisng is awful. It looks like a G2x. The G2x was boring as hell. It looks like every other generic black slab chrome rim phone in existence from Samsung, ZTE, Huawei, Pantech, etc. All the shiny elementst make it look extra cheap. The glass in the back just looks like an extra thick coating of gloss most companies put on cheap phones for the "sex" appeal. Fingerprints and dirty glass are not sexy. The white looks better than the black since you can't see the gloss, glare, or fingerprints and dirt. Just an awful design in general though.
The big icons and terrible choice of wallpaper do not showcase the HD IPS screen. I can neither tell its HD, or has vibrant colors, since there's so few colors to begin with. They should've used a colorful photograph. The cartoony graphics need to go, like PhoneArena mentioned.
It doesn't look any faster than any other Android phone. Benchmarks mean absolutely nothing. It doesn't have JellyBean with butter yet, and even if it did, I don't have faith that they can make their UI look smooth at all. It also comes down to Android in general, since no matter what the transitions just don't look that good and the UI doesn't have that flow.

"Just like the 12MP in Sony's phones. Both Samsung and Apple have much better, sharper, and far less noisy cameras."
are you serious? the cameras in those phones you just tried to upheld are in fact made by SONY!! i didnt even read past that line for that comment alone.......it is obvious you are kind of bitter about certain things so it really isnt worth reading the rest of your post .......good day
53. KFear posted on 23 Sep 2012, 14:19 0 0
You are missing his point, though he probably didn't know the cameras were made by Sony. The camera in the Samsung and Apple devices are better, with only 8mps to boot. It's a fact, regardless of the maker of the camera itself. You are presenting yourself the wrong way in order to make a point.........good day

Quote from gsmarena 's preview of optimus g :
" We were able to snap a few of photos with the LG Optimus G 13 megapixel camera and its new 5-element lens. The lighting was far from perfect, but the LG flagship still did pretty well for a smartphone and way better than its modest 1/3.2" sensor size suggests."
They also mention that the 8 MP version will use 4 - element lens design and will have a smaller sensor.

just as this article said, this is the PRE-PRODUCTION UNIT, so e quality can change by the time it comes out
design is a matter of personal preference, you can hate it, or u can love it. i love it
the wallpaper can easily be changed, and the icons is up to LG how they want to design em
the UI IS smooth. u need to watch e hands on VIDEO of the phone. no lag at all
