LG Optimus 4X HD vs Apple iPhone 4S
There is a lot to like about the interfaces on both the LG Optimus 4X HD and the iPhone 4S. For starters, LG's flagship runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, many elements of which can be customized. Home screen widgets, alternative launchers, live wallpapers, and whatever you can think of can be downloaded from the Google Play store, in case you don't find the Optimus UI 3.0 eye-pleasing. With the iPhone 4S, however, which will run on iOS 5 until later this fall, you can change your wallpaper and that is about it. Nevertheless, so many users are quite happy with the platform's intuitive, minimalist outlay that we don't think its lack of customization options is that big of a drawback. At the end of the day, it all depends what your personal preferences are.
Typing on the iPhone's on-screen keyboard is not difficult at all, especially when your fingers get used to it. Besides, you can always flip the phone sideways and use the keyboard's even more spacious landscape orientation. But the LG Optimus 4X HD is wider, and so is its portrait keyboard, which makes typing on it noticeably easier. Besides, its auto-complete bar is a quite useful addition.
Processor and memory:
Ready for some hardware specs? Okay, here we go: the LG Optimus 4X HD comes equipped with a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor ticking at 1.5GHz along with 1GB of RAM. The iPhone 4S, on the other hand, has a dual-core A5 processor, and 512MB of RAM. From all those numbers written on a piece of paper, the average user might conclude that the Optimus 4X HD offers superior performance, but in reality, both smartphones run as fluidly as a smartphone should. What's more is that in some cases, the iPhone 4S feels slightly more responsive to the user's input. With both devices, switching between applications happens almost instantly, and lags throughout their interfaces are quite uncommon.
As we mentioned earlier, the iPhone 4S does not have expandable storage. That said, you will have to drop plenty of cash on the table if you want a model with more than 16GB built-in. The LG Optimus 4X HD offers more flexibility with its microSD card slot, which can add up to 64GB on top of its built-in 16GB of storage.
Both smartphones come with very capable web browsers, but the overall experience is better on the LG Optimus 4X HD. That is mostly due to the device's larger screen, which allows more stuff to be viewed comfortably without the need for scrolling. Besides, the browser supports Adobe Flash, so it can play back embedded videos and draw that extra eye-candy on web pages that contain it. However, don't get us wrong as Safari on the iPhone 4S is great as well and excels when it comes to fluidity.

IMO, the 4X HD's design and screen though difficult to operate is a ton better than the iPhone. :/
I just don't like the logo placement of LG, too near the screen.
Oh well, great phones but I'd take quadcore HD 4.7'' android over dual core 3.5" 640x960 iOS anyday.

iDisAgree, I prefer the much smaller tinier phone with the wi-fi video chat. If you ask me, having such a humongous HD screen with a quad-core processor (phonetically, prõ-sê-sôr) is such a huge waste and extravaganze unless, of course, you're flying on the Concorde to Paris.
I will gladly settle for a lower-end limited device any day as long as I can just do the [VERY] basics; I don't need all that other stuff that that LG phone can do.

uhm, why not get more for less? apple is always over priced. think about it --- and if that's what you want, why get an iPhone? get a 1st gen Samsung Galaxy or some sort. A LOT CHEAPER bro.

there are also people who prefer budget phones like the wildfire s
just because they like the size and don't need the power doesn't mean that wildfire s is better than optimus 4x
Lets say you are buying a house, they are both priced at half a million
one house is absulotly huge! 7 bedrooms, 10 other rooms, and lots of fancy stuff and in a good neighborhood
and the other house is mehhh... its not that big, only has 2 bedrooms, not that fancy maybe in a not so great neighborhood.
you could say I don't need all that fancy stuff, I don't like my house being that big, I don't need to be ina good neighborhood. The huge house is a big waste unless your Mitt Romney
but does that make the small, not so great house better than the gimungus spacious, nicely located big house? nooooo. While you may prefer the smaller house
the big house with better specs will always be better than the little house. there is no doubt
oh yeah, android also has videochat that can work on BOTH wifi and 3G. I bet you apple fanboys forgot to look that up before you post it somewhere. You can also video chat even if your device doesn't have a front camera, you just use the back camera. Is there an app for that?
And if you hate big screens, then TOO BAD, iphone 5 probably has a big screen and your out of luck. Did you know in android there is thing called customization(its where you make the phone what you want it to be, not apple)
PS. Are you trolling, because you were contradicting the obvious :D
14. OptimusOne posted on 27 Jun 2012, 14:40 1
not wanting the basics is like i don't need fancy food, i just need bread and water to survive
yes you can survive on bread and water but it would be absolutly terrible
or you can live your life to the fullest and eat all the greatest things.
does that make bread and water better than delicious food? no

OMG, I would say you're dense but even that would make you too intelligent to meet its' definition.
Are you sure you don't have an iPhone? Or worse, the new and great Blackberry Bold 5??
17. OptimusOne posted on 27 Jun 2012, 14:50 1
you should really get the nokia 3210 it can do the VERY basics
it can call people :D (not even the iphone can do that :D )
it has a screen, it has a keypad, it has a processor in it, it has an antenna in it. I suppose you don't want to browse the web or play games on it because maybe those features are "too advanced" for you and your abilites?
after all smartphones are only for people who can't turn on wifi right?
well you don't even need to turn on anything with this
You will get that phone from at&t as soon as your contract ends for ur iphone because thats really all you need

Yep , I'd take the LG Optimus uadcore HD 4.7 android over the iPhone any day too. I even think the design looks better than the iPhone.

"Apple's smartphone takes better photos, containing more detail, with superior color accuracy"
No way. Look at some comparisons, you will see no "superior color accuracy".
"The music player on the iPhone 4S could hardly get any better than it already is"
Another comparison on PA
"There really isn't so much of a difference in the music players of both device, but we do like that fact that the GS III has all of the settings placed within the actual music player, whereas with the iPhone 4S, you always have to exit the music player, open the Settings app and navigate to the music settings if you want to tweak something."

I'll never going to read another iPhone comparison on this site again.
Always the same pointless conclusion on the end!
Wake up, you people running this site.
Can you imagine a high end android with 3.5 inch screen?
LG is clearly superior here.
Huge screen, more battery life, more processing power, memory card slot, thinner and lighter.
Oh and yeah, call me subjective but android IS a better OS.
6. OptimusOne posted on 27 Jun 2012, 06:48 2
im reading the review, 4x interface is better, 4x typing is better, 4x web browser is better on 4x, watching videos is better on 4x battery is better
I would have thought optimus 4x would have won by a landslide

"LG Optimus 4X HD vs Apple iPhone 4S"
LG Optimus 4X HD is CLEAR WINNER!

They always manage to make the iPhone sound more advanced than any other phone...
12. u-suck-more posted on 27 Jun 2012, 10:10 1
so despite the fact that the iPhone has a smaller screen, weaker processor, non-expandable memory, less RAM, poorer battery, a chore to watch videos (cos u have to change format and all) and a less customizable UI, it wins in this comparison?! and tbh, the pictures the phones take, the 4x HD isnt as bad as the reviewer makes it to be!
so HOW did the iPhone win?!
oh and please dont come up with bulls**t answers like ''it is LG, they never win'', cos if you do, you can go shove your close minded brain through a shredding machine!
13. OpTiMuS_BlAcK posted on 27 Jun 2012, 10:27 2
It's easy, the more they support apple, the larger their pay.

19. strikercho posted on 27 Jun 2012, 16:40 0
Comparing 4S to that LG is like comparing Mercedes to KIA - pointless. I will never buy this LG for the following reasons:
1. Huge uncomfortable screen(although it is nice)
2. Worse camera
3. Cheap plastic body
4. Operates on Android
25. Berzerk000 posted on 03 Jul 2012, 07:14 0
1. The screen size doesn't matter as long as the bezel size is trimmed down, which it is, so it's similar in size to the Razr.
2. The camera in the 4S is great, I'll give that credit, but the LG 4X camera is still very good. And to me, the 4X has more detail in the pictures.
3. Not even gonna lie. But I would rather have plastic than fragile glass.
4. There is nothing wrong with Android, especially ICS. The only thing they did wrong, was put their custom UI over it. LG should make stock Android phones, at least until they improve their UI more.

Wow Phonearena I don't think you've ever said there was a phone that beat the iPhone even though the SGSIII, the ONE X, and a couple other handsets are clearly superior phones. Seriously actually pick a winner.
22. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 28 Jun 2012, 03:08 0
PhoneArena will never admit a phone is better than the iphone. No matter how much more advanced, more powerful, and overall better in every way. They will still say the iphone is better OR its too close to tell.

There is a problem in the second sentence of the review. "Well, allow us to explain: both smartphones belong to the high-end category and are the very best that the two companies, LG and Apple, have to offer right now." The iPhone is NOT high end. Compared to whats out on phones now, 1.5 GHz quad core processors (or A-15 dual core), 2 GB of RAM, and 4.3+ inch HD screens; VS the 800 MHz A-9 dual core, 512 MB of RAM, and 3.5 inch screen that's just a small step above qHD. It's obvious who is the winner. But, I guess if you take the latter, give it an app launcher, and put the Apple logo on it and call it the iPhone, it's immediately the best thing in the world. Sigh
